Katla- For the Asian Sesame salad:
I finely chop the red cabbage
place about 2 cups on a plate
    add 3 tsp sesame oil
drizzle about 1/4c rice wine vinegar oncabbage
    sprinkle sesame seeds on cabbage
Add baked salmon in little pieces
    add red pepper flakes
    s&p
    toss
I bake salmon with a cajin spice and olive oil. Always have some ready in my fridge.
I have also used sauteed diced chicken breasts with the cajin spice

The only real calorie dense ingredient is the sesame oil 120/3tsp and fish 220/4oz.
    The cabbage is 55
    sauted chicken 184
I have also used just vegetables:smile: to knock down the calories...brocolli,

    Good morning, my friends!

I got the Christmas decorations down yesterday, paid the bills this morning and got the January budget ready. We're going to the grocery store later today. I need to plan for that trip to help with my fitness goals. I've already done my last walk of the year. I walked 762 miles in 2013, 12 more than my goal! I am keeping the 750 mile goal for 2014.

I need to make a run to the thrift store for one last donation for the year. We ordered a new Christmas tree yesterday, and I'd like to donate the old one to get it out of the house.

    Have a good day!

I just read a great article someone posted on facebook about the benefits of drinking water as a prevention for heart attacks, so I’m going to tweak my water goal a bit.
Do you happen to have a link? (I'm not on Facebook.)

:flowerforyou: Feeling a tad better this morning after a much better night sleep. Still very tired, but the sore throat seems to be dissipating. I am off for a massage appointment.

It is customary for the Dutch to make (and eat) "oliebollen" this time of year. DH was going to make them, but I asked him not to, because I know I will be eating them. They are basically a deep-fried type of donuts, which you eat with icing sugar. Yes, just what I need, right?:grumble: He said, then I won't make them, because I know how tough it is for you already. I appreciate that. (Yes, Katla, that is my DH in my profile picture). He is a good man, but has no problem with weight, so he does not always understand how eating some foods undermine my resolve. For him keeping that childhood tradition alive has been so very important.

Good afternoon from sunny southern Indiana. Not going to be later on but right now it is really nice. The forecast for Saturday is really nice but Sunday when everyone drives home it will probably be raining. Oh well, at least we will be having fun. Looks like I won't have any weight loss this week but at least it's not a weight gain. One of my brothers and his wife haven't seen me for a year, his son hasn't seen me for 2 years. His babies have a habit of being delivered on holidays, one on July 4th and the other December 26th. So of course they didn't come up last year.

I am really worried about how I am going to react when both my girls and grand kids are here. On Thanksgiving, my temper got pretty short. But that was 2 days after Thanksgiving and I was tired. My daughter will be coming in on Friday and just our own family will be together on Friday evening so I won't be as stressed yet. So I am hoping that I can handle it OK.

I think we all need to chime in 'Sylvia, take it easy"!!!!! Joyce

Cynthia a good friend of mine sent this to me in an e-mail and it discusses why drinking water before you go to bed helps prevent heart attacks

Good information -- even if it's a review.

    Some useful information!

    DRINK WATER & ASPIRIN INFO

When to Drink Water Great Info:

How many folks do you know who say they don 't want to drink anything before going to bed because they 'll have to get up during the night!!

Heart Attack and Water - I never knew all of this ! Interesting.......
Something else I didn't know ... I asked my Doctor why do people need to urinate so much at night time.

Answer from my Cardiac Doctor - Gravity holds water in the lower part of your body when you are upright (legs swell). When you lie down and the lower body (legs, etc) seeks level with the kidneys, it is then that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier. This then ties in with the last statement! I knew you need your minimum water to help flush the toxins out of your body, but this was news to me.

Correct time to drink water... Very Important. From A Cardiac Specialist!

Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body: 2 glasses of water after waking up -- helps activate internal organs
1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion
1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure
1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack

My Physician told me that water at bed time will also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse.

    Good information.

Subject: Mayo Clinic on Aspirin - PASS IT ON....

Mayo Clinic Aspirin Dr. Virend Somers, is a Cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic, who is lead author of the report in the July 29, 2008 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Most heart attacks occur in the day, generally between 6 A.M. and noon. Having one during the night, when the heart should be most at rest, means that something unusual happened. Somers and his colleagues have been working for a decade to show that sleep apnea is to blame.

    1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night. The reason: Aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life"; therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the Aspirin would be strongest in your system.

    2. FYI, Aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest for years, (when it gets old, it smells like vinegar).

Something that we can do to help ourselves - since Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve instantly on the tongue, they work much faster than the tablets. Everyone with heart problems should carry them in their jackets, put them in their vehicles, and make sure your wife or girlfriend carry them in their purses.

Why keep Aspirin by your bedside? It 's about Heart Attacks -

There are other symptoms of a heart attack, besides the pain on the left arm. One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating; however, these symptoms may also occur less frequently.

Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack.

The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.

If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water.

Afterwards: - Call 911. - Phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by, tell them, "heart attack," and inform them that you have taken 2 Aspirins. - Take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and ... DO NOT LIE DOWN!

A Cardiologist has stated that if each person after receiving this e-mail, sends it to 10 people, probably one life could be saved!

I have already shared this information. What about you?

Do forward this message. It may save lives!

"Life is a one time gift"

"A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.:flowerforyou:

I know it is long but I hope you find it helpful.

    afternoon ladies,
well work went quick today.. and afterwards, one of the girls who went on vacation to Italy this summer brought back some lemoncello.. which is a lemon liquor with 28% alcohol:noway: so we all had a little cup, I mean little ,I had maybe 2 oz. Holy Cow does that stuff pack a punch  it was nice... then most everyone else left, and 3 of us stayed and took down the christmas decorations and had some pizza, it was nice to just hang out and get this done ..
I did stop at the liquor store, and NO i rarely every drink, but I bought a couple of the little nipper bottles of bailey's vanilla cinnamon irish cream, and that I will have in a cup of tea tonight whooo hooo. Im livin large .. I put clothes on to go for a walk and got 1/2 way up the road and decided it was to cold, it is about 27 degrees out.so i did a bit of walking in the house, I want to get at least 10,000 steps in today,
Funny a year ago, I would just plop myself down, now if I dont get at least an hr of exercise in a day, I feel like a slouch , like your teeth when there not brushed...
my how times have changed.. I did keep one of my resolutions, and that was to lose weight, it is a process , and it took me years to put it on,but 55 lbs in a year is pretty darn good, and I got 25 more to go, but this is not a race..
To all of you lovely wonderful friends, I wish you all the healthiest and happiest of New Year's and may this coming year bring ,health wealth and happiness to all of you and yours..
Love each and every one of you ( and that is not the lemoncello talking)

    My caviar was DELICIOUS!
And I enjoyed my fillet steak with garlic butter and asparagus. And the half bottle of Fleurie. I'm up to 1650 cals so will be a bit over tonight after the apricots and a midnight snifter, but that's OK. Still under TDEE.

Bought myself a nice propelling pencil, not the cheap disposable ones I normally use. I will get on with my memoir now. Discussed it with DH and yoga friend today. Feel committed now and my London friend said we ought to start a memoir group. I'm up for it. THE HAPPINESS PROJECT is manifesting itself before my very eyes! I also decluttered a kitchen drawer and persuaded my friend to do the same. She texted me to say she had done it and was eternally grateful!

    December goals :

    Lose 1 lb.
    Research my New York flights.
Do not let the perfect get in the way of the good. (Very important for me)
    Try a new recipe.
    Plank for 3mins 30 secs.

All good and I will be resuming my memoir which has been languishing behind the laundry basket. I have retrieved it from its hidden place and it is now lying against the wall in an old bag, looking like a heap of rubbish. Tomorrow I will get it out of the bag and put it in a nice file. Why am I so afraid? It is the story of my difficult childhood. The only way is through. In the end I want it to be an inspiring story of survival and eventual happiness, but there is a long way to go! One step at a time. I will apply the five minute rule - I only have to commit to write for five minutes. And it doesn't matter what I write. It can be rubbish as long as I put my new propelling pencil on paper and move it about. Just five minutes. Doable.

Well lovely ladies, you are precious to me. My very best wishes for 2014.

    Love Heather UK

Hi gals! Just stopping by quickly to say Happy New Year! This is my favorite holiday; it's my reward for getting through Christmas LOL. We will be out dining and dancing the night away. What ever you do, stay safe and warm! My NY resolution: To put myself first! That is specific enough that I can figure it out and vague enough that I can be successful, if that makes sense. I can figure out day by day what that takes to be successful!

Well, see you next year...boy that sounds odd. Take care all, Meg from Merry Omaha

BTW Benny found DH's stash of Reeses peanut butter cups in the closet from when he was stuffing stockings. He got three and buried one in the couch, which I found while he was acting weird and not wanting me to lie down. I told hubby to roll up a newspaper and smack himself in the head for leaving them out! I don't think three of those tiny fun sized ones is a poisonous dose of chocolate for a 32 pound dog, but it won't help his triglycerides, which were back up over 1,000 again. *heavy sigh*

Here’s wishing everyone a happy, prosperous and thinner 2014! I haven’t made it up until midnight since the kids left home, so tonight probably won’t be any different. I know….. boring, right?

I was really unhappy when I got home yesterday and found that my Fitbit was missing. I called around to everywhere I’d been, but nobody turned it in, so I guess someone else must be enjoying it somewhere. It’s been a daily part of me for about 9 months now, and I’m feeling rather lost without it. I guess that means I’ll be shopping for a new one as soon as I get a chance!

Day 3 is going well so far, with no sugar and fewer cravings, so I’m off to a good start.

Katia – Wishing you well as you move into this new phase of life! I’m considering doing the same (not a teacher, though). It’s a hard decision to make, but it sounds like you’ve made the right one for you.

Kevrit – Congratulations on making your December goal, not to mention the great NSV’s!

Joyce – I think that most of us have husbands who are grumpy and verbally abusive at times. It’s difficult, but they have good traits as well and I try to focus on those. Mine isn’t speaking to me because I asked which of the 3 options he mentioned that he wanted for dinner. Huh??? Oh, well. That means I don’t have to cook until he gets over it, which makes my diet easier for me! :drinker:

Suebdew – Water and logging are a great place to start. I got crazy with the sugar over Christmas, too, which is why I’m spending this first week back eliminating it. It gets easier with each day!

Grandmallie – How wonderful to have a way to pay for the gym! Don’t feel guilty – it was your bonus. 55 lbs. in a year is amazing. Good for you!!!

Rori – I hope you don’t get sick! I’ve heard that Vitamin D is the latest fad in staying healthy. I love the after-Christmas sales, too. HINT: Dillard’s is having their super sale tomorrow morning (Jan. 1st), unadvertised as far as I know. I got some amazing buys there last year, and plan to be there bright and early. Congrats on the new size!

Michele – I just fix the 1 minute Quaker Oats. Is there an advantage to steel cut?

Sylvia – Great planning and choices – I’m impressed. Happy Anniversary!

Good news. Our steak house added a big salad with grilled chicken to their menu, so that's what I had instead of steak and potatoes. It was really good, too.

Meg, I just have to say that I am in love with Bennie! He sounds like such a character! I saw a thing online somewhere that told how much of each kind of chocolate (dark, milk) it takes to hurt a dog. It was arranged by size of dog. It took quite a bit of milk chocolate to hurt a dog Bruno's size, and he's smaller than Bennie. I didn't know dogs had to watch triglycerides. Can he take Lipitor?

Jane, we are boring, too. It's 6:30 on New Year's Eve and we are in front of the tv watching the News Hour. Hubby is snoring already. Just another day in paradise!

:flowerforyou: Sylvia, you have a great plan for your celebration. I haven’t eaten onion rings since I saw the calorie count for them.

:flowerforyou: Katla, you are wise to not drive somewhere tonight and to walk only if the streets aren’t too slippery.

:flowerforyou: Margaret, those are awesome goals for 2014

:flowerforyou: Dr.Katie, having a walking goal is a great idea.

:flowerforyou: Renny, your husband is a great man to understand your desire to not have sugary treats in the house….and now that I see him in the picture, I can see that he’s good looking too.

:flowerforyou: Heather, glad you enjoyed your caviar.

 eg, LOL, Benny and peanut butter cups…….I’m glad he didn’t get sick from them.

:brokenheart: :brokenheart: ane in CO, sorry about your fitbit….happy about several days without sugar.

:flowerforyou: There’s an impromptu party at the clubhouse in our neighborhood from 6-9 with plans to welcome the New Year when it happens in New York City. We go to bed so early we’ll have to welcome it when it comes to Saint Pierre and Miquelon---five hours east of here…..poor Daisy, not getting to go out for a walk.

:flowerforyou: I don’t know where my day went but there was a lot of dog walking, dancing, and walking with my friend who is back from Waco…..somehow I got 24,000 steps……Jake fixed lunch.

 Barbie from beautiful chilly NW Washington

Jane, yes you are right. I do try to focus on all his good qualities and he does have a lot and I love the Grandpa that he is. Also when he retired he helped me with all the health care needs of my sister and mother. I don't think I could have gone through all I did with Mom without him. And he never ever complained of how much time I had to spend with Mom

Sylvia, we had a family dog whom we loved very much and was such a part of the family. Buddy loved chocolate. We knew how dangerous it was for him and tried to keep it hidden but eh would always find it. One day I had gone grocery shopping and had a 24 count of chocolate chip cookies. He found it, managed to open those kind of containers that adults can hardly open and he ate every single one. I bought a big bag of M&Ms one valentines day and hid it from my daughter, it was going to be part of her Valentines day gift. Anyway he managed to find the unopened bag, open it and eat the whole bag. He also loved chewing gum. He lived to a ripe old age of about 20. Oh, he also ate a 24 count of chocolate turtles.

Happy New Year dear women. We are sitting here in the living room watching an old Christmas movie. I have enough on my DVR I will still be watching them in March.
