Potentially dumb question ahoy!
How often should I be recalculating my macros? I'm not going to redo them for every pound I lose because that's just silly, but should I be looking at crunching the numbers every 5 pounds? 10?
Thanks!0 -

This is actually a good question. My personal opinion on this is that you don't need to really "recalculate" as much as you just need to monitor progress and make adjustments based on results.
For example, suppose you're a middle aged male around 180lbs and you're trying to lose some weight.
You might have your calorie and macronutrients set up as follows:
2000 calories
180 protein
60 fat
185 carbohydrate
Now lets suppose you see the following over the course of several weeks:
179 lbs
178 lbs (following week)
177 lbs (another week, etc)
176 lbs
175 lbs
174 lbs
174 lbs
174 lbs
At some point it becomes reasonable to make an adjustment in activity or intake.
Rather than using a TDEE calculator and re-calculating, I would simply take a look at the current intake levels and make a reduction, OR I would make an activity increase, OR I would do both.
Which one you do would depend on personal preference and the current levels of activity and the current levels of intake.
Using the above example I would consider reducing intake to 1850-1900 and I'd make that reduction from carbohydrate in this case.0 -

That's really solid advice. I'll make sure to keep an eye on my actual vs. projected intake as I start to lose. Thanks!0 -

Take a look at your actual intake vs your results.
How much am I actually eating (log accurately), what is my weight doing?
The interaction between those variables, and your total activity, are the main variables to manipulate.0 -
