Eat McDonald's, lose wight, set terrible example

I find the nutritionist in this video to be slightly annoying.0

And I will probably die now because I had two meals of fast food yesterday!
100% of people who eat fast food die.
truth.
Oh great. I now need to go sit in the corner and cry over my impending death. Thanks, thanks a lot.
And now for the killer argument...100% of the people who do not eat fast food will die too. :laugh:0 -
This:Why should someone be bothered by this?
And this:This only proves that you don't have to know very much about nutrition and get published.
Personally, I would have chosen Taco Bell or Sonic. I hate McDonald's.
Yeah, Wendy's too. But I like Taco Bell best. Because...tacos.0 -

To me all this thing proves it that it isn't the fast food chains that should be blamed....like so many people seem to do. It is the choices people make when they get to said fast food chains that is the problem. Just mho, which will probably be picked apart.0

He did it to teach a lesson that many MANY people still need to learn. It is not the source of the food that makes you fat. It is eating too many calories.
People like having a Boogey Man to blame for their problems whether its fat, carbs, sugar, fast food, corporations, advertisers or what have you.
I think his experiment has great value and he should be thanked not condemned.
The people that are the most upset are the ones that lost one of their excuses. It shows that it actually *is* possible to eat even the "crappiest of crap food" and not eat to excess...and it highlights that the excuse of "once I start eating 'crap' food I just can't stop" is just that: an excuse.
Both of these absolutely! For some reason it seems people are missing the point.. The man lost weight the right way, through a combination of creating a caloric deficit and exercise. For MOST people it doesn't matter WHAT you eat (apart from those who have an actual medical issue with things like gluten and the like) You can eat whatever you want as long as you stay within your calories and 'try' to be close to your macros. 90% of people who have lost weight and kept it off will tell you the same thing.
Kudos for him for trying to teach the kids that they don't have to go on some fad diet and starve themselves to lose weight. Kudos to him for teaching kids about caloric intake and macros and all those things their parents probably never taught them0 -
I'm bothered by it.
I'm tremendously bothered by it.
I'm bothered by the fact he spent a lot of time and effort supporting an organization that as a corporate conglomeration supports anti-hand gun laws.
What a waste- couldn't he have supported some other rubbish big fortune 500 with his money.
*kitten* yeah! We needed to turn this into a gun debate. Why did it take 9 pages to do so?!?
I understand McDonalds though. They need those poor minority laborers to work for minimum wage. They can't have them killing each other. You think white folks are going to do the work for less than $15/hr!?!0 -

You mean "tacos", right? Not tacos.
Because Taco Bell "tacos" aren't *real* tacos.

It sets a great example if people spent time going beyond the headlines and thought for themselves. The added bonus is all the butthurt across the internet from the cleaning eating brigades and minions of "insert whatever faddy type diet or *cough* lifestyle (oxygenarian, etc) in here* thumpers.0

So this dude lost weight by proving he could make choices at a fast food restaurant, three times every day? Imagine that... then wouldn't that prove that everyone else who doesn't eat fast food three times a day can eat there once in a while and still make choices that will help them lose weight? And by catering to the corporate ego and mass media, he was able to do it for free? Kudos, big guy!
And I'm pretty sure it is food. You can live by eating it (as opposed to you cannot live if you do not eat).
It's not the greatest, healthiest food in the world, so then don't eat it if you don't like it, and also don't eat it three times a day, every day.
People like it because it tastes good.
Because, saturated fat.0 -

WHAT?!? My whole world is now shattered. Those lovely doritos locos aren't real  ?????
On topic- I would rather have a teacher teach kids about portion control and what it means to choose a salad over a big mac, then to not set an example at all. So what if the food is processed. Most of what America eats is processed becuse it's affordable. I'm sure that if everyone could afford to eat organic or eat nonprocessed food forever, they still wouldn't becuase it's easier to grab fast food or supper from a box than it is to cook from scratch. This teacher worked with what many of his students face each day becuase of circumstances. I think it's great that he's empowering them to make healthier options in light of a fast food/highly processed world.0 -

]That wasn't the point I was making. Person claims that eating low quality food will cause health problems which usually ends up with a higher mortality rate. For some reason it doesn't happen in prison. Why? Because they don't have a way to really overeat.
Obesity and health issues are due more to over consumption rather than the quality of food that people are eating. That's not to say that it's not important to eat nutritiously, but again eating fast food isn't causing lean people to have the same issues as obese and overweight people.

Your point is based on false assumptions. Prison (but not short term facilities like jails, which often serve McDonald's, actually) food generally meets standards that exceed those set for school lunches and you very much can overeat to obesity.

I'm the opposite of bothered by it. I love it. Too many people become "scared" of certain foods once they start a healthier lifestyle and it's sad. You can lose weight eating McDonalds, and you can be perfectly healthy too. I know some extremely strong, healthy people who eat a pint of Ben and Jerrys every day. The teacher in question here proved that you can still live a healthy lifestyle and lose weight, even while eating foods that are less than ideal. He also proved that food is nothing to be scared of, and we need to stop overdramatizing "bad" foods.
Seriously, look into the number of people who start a healthy lifestyle and end up developing eating disorders because they become terrified of "bad" or "unclean" foods. It happens to A LOT of people, and it's scary. I'd honestly much rather see an article like this, than a "success" story of someone who ate "clean" but was only consuming like 900 calories a day because they "totally felt full" on that amount of food.
Obviously eating healthy AND eating a good amount of calories is the ideal situation, but sadly, that rarely happens. People either become food-phobic and insist on eating "Clean" all the time, leading them to consume too few calories for their body... or they eat enough calories, but have some "junk" mixed in there such as fast food. I fall into the latter category and I'm fine with it. I think this teacher set an absolutely fine example: that you can still enjoy your life, eat what you want, and be at a healthy weight. Good for him.0 -

It was just an experiment, one that proves what every doctor in the world tells you about weight loss.... Caloric deficit + exercise = weight loss.... it's simple really yet we all, including myself, make it much harder than it needs to be.0

eating at mcdonalds and making good choices, or at least relatively low cal ones, is the same as going to the grocery store and making good choices.
and if your talking about hormones in beef, perservatives, prestacides and things of that nature, then probably any chain grocery store is just as unhealthy as any fast food resturant.0 -

Dear John Cisna:
Yours Truly,
MCD
(Loser of 51 lbs on a DAILY McDonald's dosage including but not limited to their back in the day blue cheese and bacon salad as part of a low carbohydrate/high protein diet with insane time of day and food restrictions but I did it, and it worked. I sustained that weight loss for over 4 years when off my "diet" and back on moderation eating. I was very limited on food at the time since I was out of work and sofa surfing and it was one of the few reliable food sources I had at the time and losing weight was crucial to my mental/emotional survival with an injury that was complicated by overweight and pain levels that were dangerously high for my psyche and directly affected by my weight. I gained some weight later when I got pregnant and so thus cannot accurately state that I stayed at the goal weight longer than 4 years.)0 -

The only thing I learned from this thread is that most people don't realize the phrase is "couldn't care less," not "could care less."
Just when I was wondering "why oh why am I still reading this thread (aside from it being a useful way to avoid my takehome work, of course)" this gem of a graphic comes up... thank you :-)0 -
I'm bothered by the person who wrote this article. This teacher hit the nail on the head by saying our choices make us fat not McDonald's. Fast food is not the enemy. This guy starting exercising and make marginally better eating choices and lost weight. It just goes to show that weight loss be can achieved simply by becoming more conscious about what you eat and by getting off your butt once and a while.0
