Evil Subway - Read this if you eat at there!

Generally, if an article starts with the phrase, "Being a vegan..." you can dismiss the writer as an idiot.0

Only read OP. I fail to see the problem or issue. :huh:0

Apparently the site from the article wants to hang me. Go figure.
Also...if you didn't realize that subway wasn't the absolute model of nutrition then you probably should spend less time reading ridiculous sites like that and more time doing actual research.0 -

Where would one recommend to find a quick lunch, for a healthy option that is?0

Literally anywhere that has food you like. Just eat something that fits into your daily nutrition goals.0 -
So do you ask restaurants for a nutritional menu for everything they serve?0

Typically I check the website for nutritional info and plan the meal before I show up.0 -

Clearly you are some kind of wizard.
I do the same, though. And depending on the laws where you live and the restaurant, they usually have a brochure on hand they can offer you with their nutrition information.0 -
Have yet to die from a Subway....
Anyone wanna bring me a sammich? Extra pepperchinis!0 -

I spend a couple minutes on their website before I go. If it's a spur of a moment thing I'll look it up on my phone before I go in. And for the couple local places we go to I have asked the server and they gave me the info I wanted. You don't have to ask them for the nutritional info on everything they serve, just the food you're interested in
It's really not that big of a deal0 -
The smell when I walk past the shop makes me want to yack.
It's no different than any other chain fast food place though.0 -
LoL! We can't eat anything!0

Subway is one of the few places I trust to eat when I travel that I can just get a lean protein and some veggies. If my family wants to grab something at subway, I don't sweat it. Keeping food readily available for people on the go and showing people healthier alternatives is something I am thankful that Subway has and continues to work on.
I get that it is not 100% Organic and all kinds of ultra healthy options. But knowing I can feed with my family or a roomful of hungry accountants at work at an affordable price with reasonable assurance of the nutritional value and calorie count, all I can say is, thank you Subway.0 -
Ya shame on me...having a opinion and possibly not using the exactly right word for what I was trying to express which I many times explained *eye roll*
Yep. Shame on you for having an opinion and stating it as fact from a seat of authority.
Ya no I don't believe I did, I'm just a regular person who has eyesight.
I agree with Pale_Green. I find the advertising manipulative (I feel that way about most advertising). I have seen the list of possible sandwich options and the fine print stating no sauces and no cheese (and I worked in a call center for a big time TV provider. Lots of people don't read fine print).
So, yea. Some people agree with that POV. I don't feel she was proven "wrong" or should admit she is "wrong" about anything.

What about the picture? Do people look at the picture of the sandwich? Because the pictures they show don't have cheese or sauce either, unless it's included in the nutritional information.
She specifically said that sandwiches are pictured with cheese, but the nutritional information doesn't include cheese. That is, literally, wrong. They don't do this.0 -
Is that really all you are fixated on? Ok. she said that but I still agree about the advertising being manipulative.
Personally, I don't look at the pictures. The pictures themselves are manipulative. They are taken by professional food photographers. the lighting, the placement, all of that is designed to make the food look super appealing (to me it looks less appealing, but that is just me).
I eat at subway, and I like it. But advertising is still advertising.
Edit: And I also respect your stance that Subway has more accurate advertising compared to other fast food places (correct me if I misunderstood that point), and I agree, and I won't make my decision whether or not to eat at subway based on advertising, but others might, and I respect them too.0 -

The vast majority of people put their best face forward, being with make up & flattering clothes or a smile even when you don't feel like smiling.
Having worked in a call center, you realize that you had to be kind and helpful, even when it was the last thing you felt like doing. That behavior was actually a small advertising function... Giving the customer the impression of the ever helpful desk person.
Business is competitive, but in the larger picture of the range of possible misrepresentation in advertising, Subway is no worse than just about any other entity, and far better than most.
It's okay to be frustrated with all the hype from different businesses out there, but I think it's important to try to see it in shades of gray and on a case by case basis before condemning any one in particular, as being too generalized isn't really a good policy.

For the people whose tummies growl when they hear about a particular fast food restaurant using questionable ingredients or practices: what is a deal breaker for you? Is there a particular substance that would make you avoid the food or is anything short of food poisoning fair game?
Pickles.
Pickles are in the same category as arsenic, diesel fuel, and baseballs. Pickles don't count as food.
Shut your mouth!! Pickles are heavenly... Green bell peppers are repulsive!0 -
Never got why anyone likes Subway, just the smell puts me off.0

We agree
On a personal note, I have never been a fan of wearing makeup for other people or putting on a fake smile. I prefer to be truthful....I mean, I also know I have to live in society, so I do fake it, but I am not a fan. le sigh.0 -
I think people have enough common sense to realize that the footlong meatball with cheese is going to have more calories than the footlong turkey breast with no cheese...
You'd be surprised at the lack of sense you witness when working behind the counter at a Subway.0 -

Oh yes.
Some of my favorites:
"I'll take the pepper JOHN cheese.":ohwell:
"Give me some of those Japanese chips" (jalapeño)
"Would you like a six inch or footling?" "Which ever is bigger." :noway:0
