Today, I am mulling over whether to go to the gym...I may decide I need another rest day. Yesterday, DH and I tried to change out a sink, and discovered <surprise!!!> we aren't any good at plumbing. A couple of trips to the hardware store and a couple of hours later, it is dripping everywhere. The plumber will have to figure out the mess.
Katia, ha, ha, calories will definitely soar at the coffee shop, but you know how we PNW folks do like our coffee beverages! Thankfully, there are options.
Michelle, you check "healthy" at the door when you enter that hamburger establishment. They serve hamburgers, fries, and soft drinks - period. Every now and then, we throw disgression to the winds and go anyway. At least I waved DH away from the fries.
Gmom, my heart aches for you with your mom so sick. That is just very, very hard. She certainly set a wonderful example for staying active. Step class! Wow.

Wow, so many pages to read on this topic! I'm over 50 and recently started posting to MFP again after being absent many months (and adding more lbs.) It seems everyone on here knows everyone else...I'm but a newbie :blushing:
I could use all the help and motivation I can get, including MFP friends. Currently unemployed and doing "back office work" for my husband's business from home, I'm entirely too sedentary and tend to snack constantly. Logging in my food diary daily helps keep me on track. Now I just have to cut back on after dinner snacking and exercise more. That's my second biggest problem. I feel weak and tired all the time which I attribute to sitting in front of a computer all day. This is the year I want to MOVE in more ways than one
Plans for the day??? Download the MFP to my phone, finish some online applications, home chores and walking 2 miles. I'll make every effort to get in at least 45 min of cardio/strength training later too. I can't keep avoiding the Exercise Log In tab forever!0 -
katla, I make and sell bath and spa type gifts and favors. My biggest selling items are my shea butter lip balms, soy wax candles and lavender & flax seed eye pillows with custom designed labels for weddings, special events, business promotions, etc.
Before my son was born I worked in catering sales and event planning. I loved it but can not keep the necessary hours as an only parent to continue with it. This gives me the opportunity to do something I enjoy, am good at and still be a small part of my customer's big days, events, etc. AND still try to be the best mom (and dad) I can be. I am hoping to have my own little boutique that not only showcases my products but other handcrafted and vintage wedding and event related items one day soon.
I purposely left out the website address because I don't want anyone to think I'm using this forum to sell (plus I'm still updating after the holidays) but I'll be happy to share it to the curious by message.
Thanks for asking
Gloria

Logging 1200 days shows amazing dedication. Congratulations!:bigsmile:0 -
Well I'm up and ready to go to church but I knew I wanted to log on here and get some words of encouragement from my fellow sisters. And you didn't let me down.:flowerforyou: Coming from a preacher's family, not going to church is a mortal sin!!!! So I have carried this guilt. I also have high expectations of a church because I think every preacher and church should be like my Dad. So here I go. Love you all.

Back home. Had a nice long nap!
Thanks for the compliments on my photo. I wanted to post it to show people that you can do it at any age. Don't let age or disability be an excuse! I shall be back on those gymming machines tomorrow despite my knee, but will give the HIIT a miss!:noway: I'm logging food again today. Trouble is, after all the eating I've done this weekend I'm starving! ! ! ! Chilli tonight with half a baked potato. I've got no fresh veg do it will be frozen spinach.
Joyce - well done for having a try of the church. :flowerforyou: If you don't like it then there is nothing lost.
It's strange when something you have been planning and thinking about for a long time is over. It's been a fixture in my diary for so long - our big weekend away! Our next fixture, after Burns Night next weekend, is our 24 hours in the white E type Jaguar convertible, which is our Christmas present to each other. Not until April. We usually go abroad for most of Feb, but not this year, so I am looking forward to the chance of doing more to my memoir and resuming my journal. Deedee, I still haven't written in it! It will be good to get a real routine of work under way.
An old friend of mine was clearing out some old boxes and came across a programme of a theatre production I was in when I was at teacher training college. She has sent it to me in the post. It brought back some memories! I was 22. I had to sing unaccompanied and was sooooo nervous! I used to love acting, but was too insecure in myself to take it up professionally. Later in life I wrote, directed and produced my own production which ran for 3 weeks on the London 'fringe'. I also taught drama and used it as life therapy in classes. I miss all that. Very much.
Love and hugs to all those who are looking after loved ones.:flowerforyou: How strong you are.

We had a really nice get-together yesterday with those members of the Colorado Contingent who were able to make it: Rori, Brooke and myself. We missed Laura, who was unpacking from her move, and also Kathy. It’s so nice to meet with friends and to compare notes on just about any topic you can think of! We’re planning to try to do this every month or two. I brought my camera along, but then forget to use it. It may have been just as well, as I’ve forgotten how to post photos again! :blushing:
Being good MFP members, we all ordered salads. A waiter dropped a tray and splashed us with just a few drops of water – no big deal. At the end of our healthy meal, the manager came by with three plates of cheesecake as an apology! We were quite taken aback, having been so virtuous, and asked him to box them so that we could take them home for our husbands. You could practically see the halos shining over our heads!
I see that I’m eight pages behind on the thread, so will just skim and start anew. I’ve been making a major push at my walking this past week. I’m horribly sedentary, so usually average around 3,000 steps. For the past 3 days I’ve managed to surpass 10,000 steps, and it looks like I’ll make it again today! I’m quite stiff and a bit sore, but also very proud of myself. Hubby is gone playing in a soccer tournament in Las Vegas this weekend, which somehow makes me more able to take the time for my treadmill. I’ve got a large pot of chicken/vegetable soup cooking on the stove, so dinner is set.
The Broncos are in their play-off game for the Super Bowl slot this afternoon. I don’t actually watch football, although I’m hoping that the Broncos win, so I’m thinking it might be a great time to go to Costco and get some more steps in. I usually avoid it on the weekends, as it’s just too crowded.
Meg – I’m so sorry about your cat. I know it must really hurt after so many years together.
I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend! :flowerforyou:

Heather welcome back to the real world!
Well, back from church. It was a very good experience. It pretty well checked off every box I had and some I really didn't know I had. IT HAD PEWS! Pews with padded seats. One of the things that speak to me most in a church is the music. The choir was pretty small but the quality was superb. I am an alto and I love what harmony does to a song. It gives it so much more depth. I know some choirs in smaller churches just stick with unison and this is what this choir did. But then the music changed to harmony and it was wonderful. You could hear Bass, tenor and alto along with some beautiful soprano. I just sat the and cried. They are emphasizing the Easter story right now. Normally I would think it is a little early but I guess for me it was what I needed. Anyway, it was a friendly church, I was able to sing from a hymnal and not look at music that is on a screen on a wall. There was a piano, organ and no drums. So, yes, it was a traditional Southern Baptist church. Tehy have a weekly dinner on Wednesday nights. It's lasagna. I think I'll skip that. There was only one other lady in blue jeans, very few ladies were in dresses, most in pants. The pianist has MS. So I felt welcome and will probably go back. Thanks for all your prayers.

50 Ladies :flowerforyou:
.. whew sorry this is long but this is a Vgood group! very motivating - thanks (i’ll try to keep the blabber-fingers shorter in future .. geez this is nearly a whole #@! page LOL) :blushing:
Walked 2+ miles today, used the inversion table and worked on my spine and my abs, then some stretching with the weighted hula hoop. A light meal day today as I over did it on the sodium this past week, so clean eating and plenty of water today in prep for weigh in tomorrow morning. Happy I am getting stronger physically and enjoying the work outs more - i have more energy which is a +Bonus. I’m ignoring the plantar faciitis pain in my right foot and “just doing it anyway”.. seems to be working. The inversion table prevents degenerating discs/sacroiliac from locking up (and hey, i just really enjoy hanging upside-down). Tomorrow I take mum to see to see the vascular surgeon to see if we can save her left foot/leg. We knew after she lost her right leg this day may come, its just so hard to watch her go through it all again. Glad I can be here to help her through these challenges, thanks to the good Specialists I work for who permit me to work from home in Canada when I am not at home in Alaska.
Good luck this week everyone. :drinker:
Sylvia molliewhippet- great giggle from your flabby arms in the pool LOL .. glad your son in hospital had a port put in, its so much better than being “stuck” all the time and getting bruised up, sounds like he’s getting some really good care. The only thing more blabby than me in my house is my 25 yr old Congo African gray parrot who talks, sings & whistles all day.. my DH is quite deaf and no matter what I say, the parrot always kicks in with a “Huh ??!!” .. and i’m crazy enough to repeat myself - for a parrot!!!
Michelle exermom - pork chops, cod & chilli all sound dandy. when i get into better shape i’d like to try the Zumba too, looks like fun. Downton Abbey is brilliant, love the costuming. Our black lab is named “Dingleberry Fungus Campbell esq.”.. the day we brought him home the Westminster dog show was on and we felt he just HAD to have a show-dog name. He clung to my DH when we picked him out at the dog rescue, hence the dingleberry part, fungus because he has black freckles on his tongue .. esq. just snobbed it up a notch .. we had all the cool names picked out & Dingleberry was just supposed to be an interim name .. 14 yrs later people just liked it so much it stuck - like a dingleberry LOL
Gloria gmom316 - pancreatic cancer is so sad, i see it a lot through the clinic I work in and my father died from it a little over a year ago. you are doing well and being strong for your family and looking after yourself. Sounds like you have some great business acumen. I cared for my grandma until her death at 84, grandpa until 99 and my mothers sister when she was dying from acute myeloid leukemia.. the stressful years I call them, when I packed on all the weight .. somehow now I feel their love and support in trying to look after me now.
Katla katla49 - sodium is a big trigger issue for me too, thanks to the DASH plan i’m down to normal levels again but still have to keep an eye on my consumption levels - glad you are feeling better - i had pneumonia in October in HAWAII .. that was one weird vacation. Smoked fish is so wonderful, we do quite a bit of it in Alaska - its devineeeeeeeeeeeee. coffee + chai = carbs+++
Heather cityjanelondon - you do look great! the best motivation for me - I want to look great too
.. the HIIT looks seriously painful ow .. a ride in a Jag sounds sublime, and maybe a champaign picnic
Viv wizzywig - beautiful dog, he’s got a great smile. I lost one of my daschunds last year at Christmas when he fell while jumping and broke his spine. Now his deaf/blind partner in crime “Eddy-Spaghetti”, follows my husband around everywhere. They fill up such a big place in our hearts. bummer about your freezer
Ann answerinthesky - good 4 u firing your personal trainer & sticking up for yourself. you’ll find your groove soon in your weight loss efforts, just keep trying and don’t give up
DeeDee2211 - shopping sounds great & makeup is a great self-reward for weight loss achievements. congrats on size 14 pants being too big, i’ve had to toss a pair already because I was very nearly embarrassed @ Costco the last time I shopped - had to hold them up the whole time or wind up showing all my tidy-whities!
Joyce jmkmomm - thanks for the pm, much appreciated - we will talk more!
grandmallie - LG makes wonderful phones, good choice - have a good workout
Kay kayzoola - my DH is a handyman/renovator who has to go in and fix a lot of DIY home repairs, especially plumbing - the electrical ones are just plain scary! enjoy your step class .. still thinking about hamburgers yummmm - maybe i can do a ground turkey version at home.
redalee1 - welcome, i work from home too + provide care for my elderly mum.. yes its so easy to become sedentary. i wind up working for many more hours from home than I would at the office. i’m just starting to get back into shape and find the walk/fit videos on YouTube work great so far
yanniejannie - filet mignon sounds mouth watering! .. i’ll send you my DH, he does all of the cooking and the dishes (no dishwasher)
Carrie perfetrun - welcome and good luck with your weight loss efforts, smart friendly people in this group. ever try audio books on your commute and sipping water instead of munching?
KayKallsen52 - welcome, i love the tracking/diary too, its the best
Jane janehadji - smart move on the cheesecake, you are strong indeed!
Marni (canookie)
Goals for January

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. ~ Winston Churchill0 -
Welcome to the newbies, come back often and post so we can get to know you. It's a wonderful bunch of ladies.
Meg - I'm so sorry for your loss, our furbabies are such a part of our families. What a good long live Smokey had and very well loved. I'm glad your Dad is doing better. I hope through all this stressful time you take some time to take care of yourself.
Ann -, I hope you will get your money back and find a better trainer
Joyce - good for you for getting back to church. I still haven't done that yet. When I moved to Oshawa I left my home church. I haven't found one that I like but it's only been...yikes 29 years. Time to get a move on that I think.
Heather - you look absolutely amazing.
I did 30 min of lane swimming yesterday and then the aquafit class yesterday, today was the aquafit class. They were both amazing classes but...I pulled a muscle in my shoulder blow drying my hair after class today. Go figure, I work out and I hurt myself blow drying my hair. hmph. So I won't be typing much today.
Have a great day.
Sandy from ON0 -
Welcome to all the new gals and hello to everyone else.
DH's birthday party last night was a success and fun. We're both worn out today! The house is mostly back to pre-Christmas normal now. Laundry is making its way through the machines and I just caught up on the many pages here.
It is almost 50 sunshine-y degrees, so I think I'll go out for a short walk soon. Tomorrow I'll be back at the Y after work.
Meg, sorry about your cat. Losing pets is not easy, even when it is the kindest thing.

:flowerforyou: Good afternoon lovely ladies! Just thought I would take some time for some Vitamin F.
Carol (Nccarolb) – Big Mac casserole, Nutella mug cake? And still have calories left? Wow, what a treat.
Heather – I think I may have mentioned this already, but you look stunning. And yes, it is inspiring for people like me of a similar age.
Rori – I agree that if there is a heaven, it must include our dearly departed pets.
Michele in NC – I always love your posts. Clearly written, to the point, compassionate and caring, and full of you what.you.see.is.what.you.get. I feel like if I met up with you in person, we’d be talking for hours.
DeeDee – I love the opening to all your posts: “Good morning beautiful ladies”. Bossing the boys is something I am pretty good at myself, assuming you mean the human kind. Years ago I worked at a steel manufacturing company, where 99% of the workers were guys. Loved it.
Gloria (Gmom) – This is a supportive group. I am sorry to hear about your mom’s cancer. Heart breaking.
KayKallsen – Welcome. You have joined by posting. Nice to meet you.
Perfetrun – Welcome to you too. You have fitness fanatics as kids? Lucky you! I am fortunate to have kids who are into good nutrition. Remember the old times when we would not have to worry about what ingredients were in products?
Katla – be kind to yourself. I know I went back to exercising to soon and had a setback. But you seem much more sensible than me.
Yanniejannie – glad your road trip went well. This time of year you never know. Filet mignon with fingerling potatoes and seasoned mustard greens – oh my, mouth-watering.
Kay (Kayzoola) – We like our coffee too, so I can quite identify. I treat myself to a single-shot Americano every day with a bit of milk only. Drinking coffee should be enjoyable. It may be the Dutch in me too. The Dutch take drinking coffee pretty seriously.
Jane – 1200 days of logging is awesome! Exemplary consistency.
Redladee1 – Welcome. Some of us are old-timers, and others have just started. Jump right in for a dose of “Vitamin F” (F stands for friends, a term coined by Michele in NC). We all need support and motivation. I do the books for my DH business, in addition to working full-time at an office job. All sitting work. I have made myself move more by joining Jazzercise and Yoga last year. Find something you love. Walking is a great exercise too.
Joyce – you did it! You took that step to what you wanted to do, and had a good experience. Building on good experiences gives renewed energy.
Heather – really neat to read about how important your younger years of theatre were to you. I think it is one of those things that never actually leaves your being.
Jane in Colorado – Loved hearing about your Colorado get together. I could picture the halos!!
Marni (Canookie) – you have an inversion table? That would benefit me too. I was recently diagnosed with a bit of arthritis in my lower spine.
I don’t always have a marathon response, but today it felt right to do and I used the MFP/Word combo approach.
I spoke with my sister today, since my mom had a bad episode yesterday. I hope to contact my mom’s doctor directly tomorrow to discuss her health situation with him. There is 9 hours difference, so will likely call when it is in the middle of the night here. I need to know if I need to postpone my own (elective) surgery, which is now scheduled for February 17th. Or if indeed I should travel sooner. I realize that her doctor may not be able to give me much in the way of answers, but I still have to try. Decisions, decisions.
Have a great day, my friends.

Hi everyone I'm 57 and have 11 grandkids that range from the age of 18 -10 months. I have been married for 13 1/2 years. These years have been good years. I just started this sight in Dec. of 2013. I'm not totally and completely use to it eat but well on my way. I don't knit or crochet but wish I could do it. Because while my husband watched football I could do that. My goal to loose is about 50 lbs. I want to get down to about 140 I'm 178 right now.0

afternoon ladies, well fed the DH and had left over dinner from last night.
went over to see Sean, much much better, still having some halusinations,(sp) but much better, no IV's eating solid food and when I was leaving the were coming to take out the PICC line..
I brought my laptop with me and went on you tube.. started playing some of his favorites, and he started singing along, and tapping his foot. made both Jean and I cry, he has come such a long way.. now he has to start making decisions,he did talk to our uncle on the phone earlier and told him that he was in the hospital because of bad decisions over the years and that he is done with that.
Praise the Lord and hope this is true..0 -

Marni prayers for your mom. Hope they can save her foot.:flowerforyou:
Joyce glad you liked the church.
Jane great job on the steps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heather I agree with others you look great. :flowerforyou:
Gloria I feel relaxed just reading about those products.
Jane 1200 days !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yanniejannie hope DD hears you news from her interview soon.
Meg my sympathies on the loss of your cat.:brokenheart:
Katla the blurt board was a sheet of paper the students signed if they blurted in class or were unkind. The kindness board was a paper they signed if they did something helpful or kind.
Went t to see American Hustle with a friend yesterday. It was not quite what I expected more of a dramity that a comedy. I still thought it was a good movie reminded me of The Sting. We sang a spiritual today Ain’t Got Time to Die. It was a fun piece to sing. It went over well with the congregation.

Hi everybody, a quick goodnight here. I've gone over my calories the last couple of days, mainly because I've hardly moved at all. :noway:
Tomorrow is gym day again, so I hope to end up with some more energy etc.
Cynthia0 -
Good evening! It has been a gorgeous day here after all the rain we've had over the past few weeks. I spent a good bit of time in the sunshine getting my steps in for the day. I finally did the Jillian Michaels' 30-day Shred today. Wow! I may not be able to get out of bed tomorrow. I want so badly to keep it going and tone up the lumps, bulges, and jigglies! I thought I was going to have another night to myself but the ex called and said our son wasn't feeling well so he was going to bring him home. I'm irritated that the first response is to bring him back to me, but I'd rather him be here so that I can watch him. I had lunch with my daughter today for the first time in ages. She's begun seeing someone and spends most of her time with him. Understandable, but I miss her anyway. I don't have any "hang-out" friends here.
I'm glad to see that those of you who have had the cruddy cold/sinus issues are feeling better! *knocks wood* I haven't gotten any of the crud going around this year. I think December 2012-September 2013 gave me enough health issues to never be sick again and still have gotten my fair share!
I will say welcome to the newbies, but I'm still a newbie, too! I'm really enjoying this group of ladies.
To the lady who remarked on my Big Mac casserole and Nutella cake, it was AMAZING!! Had to talk myself out of making the cake again today!
I guess I will go fold the rest of the laundry and put it away so that I will be as ready as possible for the upcoming week. Tomorrow is not a holiday for me, unfortunately.
Keep up the good work!
Carol from NC0 -
Joyce - good luck to you! So glad you had a good experience at the church. I know it'll mean a lot to you.. I'm so so glad that you felt so welcomed and will be going back.
Anne - I'm sorry that you had to fire your personal trainer and hope you find another one. A while ago I had to contact the BBB for another reason, to be honest, I think they replaced the item that I had ordered just to shut me up. I was being a real pain. So don't give up! I hope Visa can help you
Viv - I shudder to think of how much I'd lose if my freezer were to break. But I do wish I'd gotten a bigger freezer. Next time I won't hesitate to get the absolute biggest one that I can get
DeeDee - I don't know if it's the cold or not, but my knees seem to be going slower, Does that make any sense? Are yours? I see you're ready for spring -- blush, lipstick, eyeshadow, nail polish -- now just for the spring weather...lol. Go get those guys!
KayKallsen and Carrie - welcome!
When I read the comments others make to people, I swear there are things that I've missed!
Well, did an hour of zumba on the Wii today.
Kay - I sure hope you get a plumber asap and he can help you.
redladee - welcome! Check in often and pretty soon YOU'LL be one of those that knows everyone
Jane in CO - (sad face) you forgot your camera!!!! Thanks for telling us all about the meeting, sounds wonderful. Love those halos
Marni - LOVE your posts. Boy, you sound so happy, I'm happy for you. Good luck to your mum. What a cool story how you named your dog! lol having to hold up your pants....lol I can just see it now
Renny - I'd love to meet up with you. Maybe someday. Then we'll "exercise" (our jaws, that is....lol)
sandykendrick - welcome! Hope to hear more from you soon
Alison - God DOES work in mysterious ways. What wonderful news about your brother
Remember how I told you that the yoga class I usually go to on Saturdays was changed and they didn't let anyone know? Well, it seems that they didn't even let the insutructor know!!! She called me today, she's going to try to do a yoga class at her church (which is near the Y) and was wondering if I'd be interested.
Went to Sam's and renewed my membership. I'd gotten a letter in the mail so I took that and my coupon. They renewed my membership (put it on the card) and gave me a $10 gift card. Babybel cheese was on sale so I got 2 (I think it's something like 24packs) and after using the gift card I only paid less than $3.
Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. First, I'll buy gas on my way to the extremepump class. Oh, before that I'll do some of the bellydance DVD, after the class go take the donations from the church to the soup kitchen, then probably going to go to the mall see if I can find something to match the sweater Lynette gave me for Christmas (if not, maybe I'll get something else), then to the movies with a friend (we're seeing "Saving Mr. Banks" -- she says it's very good so we shall see). I have my "going to the movies" pocketbook ready, 48oz of water, a 100 cal pop bag of popcorn, a fruit strip, 1/2 of turkey sandwich on Whole Wheat bread, and some Brachs mints. Really, I'm not all that crazy about going, but it'll be nice. Then at night we have mahjongg. It's at this one gals' house, she works during the week but has tomorrow off. Also, she has a laminator so I'll take some of my workouts to be laminated.
Carol from NC - didn't you know that those makers of the DVD's and the personal trainers get a kickback from the guys who install those rails around the toilets???????
Michele from NC0 -
I am new and I hope to drop by this thread often. I'm only on my third day of using MFP. It's a great program.
It's always been hard for me to weigh and measure, but I'm committed to doing it this time, as well as exercising. I am so glad to see people over 50 losing weight! You give me hope.0 -
Hi everyone, What a beautiful day here; we hit a new record of 65 degrees! I got tons done so I feel good about that. DH and DD#2 got all the outdoor Christmas decorations down and put away. That leaves only the upstairs to do.
Ewww…DD#2 just came to say goodnight and she looks like the walking dead. She says she is nauseated and boy does she look it. Good thing she doesn’t have school tomorrow.
Thank you all so much for your sweet words regarding the old man. I miss him terribly and the other cats are trying to fill his spot.
Carol: I’m so glad you had some good news about your son. I missed your post about his diagnosis but I sure hope things are going to get better!
Heather: your new photo is gorgeous! I bet you were the talk of the town at your party. I’m glad you had fun. I ‘d love to hear more about your acting in the past!
Rori: I think I will be reunited with all my fur babies in heaven. That is my idea of what it must be like. I love that quotation from the Happiness Project about choosing vegetables.
Renny: I love your attitude about the cycle of life. You are so right. Keep up informed about your mother.
Katla; sounds like you have been sick and I’m sorry to hear that. I love chicken soup especially homemade. Enjoy. You will love the smoker
Michele: what about a nice spinach and chicken roll up for your friend? Or just spinach, sour cream, and water chestnuts in tortillas rolled up. You cook so much I’m surprised you need advice LOL
Jill: thank you for your kind words too. Looking forward to seeing you this spring.
Joyce: sending good thoughts your way for church
Anna: sorry things are not working well with the personal trainer. I hope you get your money back. Believe me, the earth won’t crack open if you go over your starting weight. This is a journey with many starts, stops, and detours
Viv: so sorry about your beloved dog Tara. Is that her picture?
DeeDee: did you wear your new make up and polish to boss the boys? I bet you look fabulous!
Grandmallie: hope your gymming was productive! I love the rainbow bridge thought. I’m glad things seem to be looking up for your brother; I’ll continue to keep him in my prayers
Gmom sounds like you have some good goals. I didn’t say welcome before so welcome from me now!
Kay and Carrie: welcome to both of you too. This is a wonderfully supportive group. All you have to do is look around and see
how kind every one has been over the death of my kitty to realize how supportive and loving everyone here is.
Yanniejannie: wow what a road trip!
Kay: my husband and I have flipped houses and have rentals and decided the one thing we should stay far, far away from is plumbing! Good plumbers are worth their weight in gold!
Jane: wow 1200 days??? That’s amazing! Congratulations
Redladee: welcome to the group!
Jane: so glad you had a great time with the CO contingent!
Canookie: “blabber fingers” ….that cracked me up
Sandy: good for you to keep up with the water activities
Gail: I’m glad we aren’t the only ones whose house is not quite back to the pre-holiday state!
Margaret: I Love the blurt board and kindness board. What great ideas.
Cynthia: those extra calories won’t be hanging around you for too long, I’m sure!
Genhosaddict: welcome aboard!
Well I need to start on the menu for next week. I did the elliptical, circuit training, a new pilates tape, and yoga today so I am wiped out! Tomorrow is not a holiday for me either, so early to bed. Take care, meg from Omaha where it was gorgeous today0 -
Congratulations to the virtuous Colorado ladies who met for lunch! You’re all awesome individually, and in a group I’ll bet you’re amazing. :flowerforyou:
Joyce: It looks a though you may have found a new Church home. Yay!:flowerforyou:
Marnie: Speaking for myself, your “blabber fingers” are a welcome addition to the conversation. I love the Churchill quotation: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." ~ Winston Churchill Thanks for sharing.:flowerforyou:
Renny: I think you are an excellent judge of character to consider me sensible. You may be one of a very small group to hold that opinion. I consider myself complimented. Good luck on your situation with your mom. I hope it all works out.:flowerforyou:
SandyKendrick: Your goal is achievable. MFP is an excellent place to work on improving your health.:flowerforyou:
Alison: I’m so glad your brother was noticeably better today, even though he was still a bit in his own world. Music is such a great way to make people feel good, especially familiar and well liked music.:flowerforyou:
Margaret: I think a blurt board may work better in a classroom. I can’t see how to make it work at home without DH teasing me unmercifully.:noway: I'll have to keep track privately.:flowerforyou:
Michele: Are you thinking of going to the yoga class your instructor will be offering at the church? I wonder what the people at the Y were thinking when they cancelled a class and didn’t let the students or instructor know about it. That really seems like poor management and poor manners, too.:grumble:
We spent the day brining and smoking chicken legs. They’re okay but we’ll do things a bit differently next time. This was our first effort. When we smoked the Salmon last fall our neighbors actually did all of the smoking. We just brined the fish. We did okay with the brining today, too, but will leave the next batch in the smoker for a shorter period of time and cook it in the oven longer. We also missed the direction to wrap it in foil before moving it to the oven. It would probably have been more moist if we’d done that, which would have been a big improvement. :ohwell:

January goals:
1. Log every bite and swallow.
2. Focus on fitness: daily cardio plus strength training a minimum of twice a week.
3. Water: According to an article a friend posted on facebook, drinking water at certain times maximizes its effectiveness on the body. So I’ll try to follow these recommendations:
* 2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs
* 1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion
* 1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure
* 1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack0 -
I have decided that I am in love with the designer Vera Wang!!!! My daughter and I went to Kohl's tonight. I needed more jeans and I also wanted to look for a sensible, comfortable pair of shoes I can wear to church. My orthotics can only fit in a certain number and type of shoes. If I do't wear it they have to be really comfortable to wear for a couple of hours. I used to have a pair of low heels, and the heel was fairly wide that I loved. The leather was good, looked good and most important, they felt wonderful. Nut somehow one is lost. It is somewhere with all the socks that seem to go poof in the night. So I wear a very old pair of really uncomfortable shoes that look bad and feel worse. For those of you who remember I wore them for my mother in laws funeral. During visitation I wore them and took breaks frequently so I could go in the break room and put my tennis shoes on. These were my only shoes I wore for 'dress'. I can't wear heels at all. The MS just won't let me. Tennis shoes and Crocs is what I wear. So jeans and shoes was my quest for tonight. Right now I am in my size 16 boot cut which runs a little snugger. When I put them on today I realized I could now pull them off without unzipping them. I didn't realize Kohls only had these expensive designer jeans. So I tried on Elle, Apt 19, Jennifer Lopez and Vera Wang. Fel:laugh:  t so special!!!! But I always have fun shopping with my daughter. And she loves taking me shopping cause she knows I have more money than she does and she knows exactly what to do to get me to spend it on myself. Which is very hard for me to do. It's not in my nature at all but she does it. Anyway, back to my story. I was trying on everything in size 14. I ty these Vera Wang ones on and I can pull them off without unzipping them! So she goes out and gets a 12 and they fit! Oh my, pick me off the floor. I tried the Elle jeans on next and could harldy pull them off. I don't think Elle and Vera get along well.  So with the sale price and a $20 Kohls cash I got two pair , regular $50 a piece for $42. And the Kohls cash was expired. But i have never had a problem with them taking expired Kohls cash. couldn't find a pair of shoes though. We did have fun trying on stupid shoes.
Her next big thing she had to get me to do was to buy some underwear that wasn't grandma underwear!!! So I bought some midrise. That's a big step for me. But with midrise jeans my previous ones weren't working well even though I like my shirts out and a little long.
The sun was out today! Oh glorious day. How good it felt. Still wasn't a warm day but to just see the sun. And it showed how dirty the car has gotten driving in all this slush and salty roads. So it got a bath today.
I sent a personal face book message to my brothers and daughter and neice about me getting back in church and finally being able to verbalize why I stopped going. It took me a long time to even understand why myself. So I have gotten a lot of encouragement back from them. My brother the chaplain of course said the most meaningful words tome that I will treasure. He says that now I have to release my own guilt from my heart about not going. So God and I have some work to do. I guess I should step back and stop being the controlling one and let Him do the working and me the listening. Hard for me to do.
See you all tomorrow. Have a good night.

Good morning! The sun is shining for once! Rain later - - - again.
Joyce- Whoo hoo on the size 12s!:flowerforyou: :drinker: Vera Wang indeed!
Alison - hope all continues to go well with your brother. It sounds hopeful so far, but, as you know, he has the hardest part ahead of him because only he can do it for him. You are a wonderful sister.
Renny - I hope all your decisions become clearer. It's always difficult when several conflicting things are up in the air. Best wishes to your mum.:flowerforyou:
Gail - many congrats on successfully hosting the party.:flowerforyou: I know what a lot of work it entails. Have some "me" time now.
Sandy - sorry about your shoulder! My superfit DH recently pulled a muscle in his back putting on his trousers! ! ! ! ! It lasted for ages.
Gloria - big, big HUGS for you going through this with your mum. Very, very hard.
Marni - It's wonderful to see how you support your mum. It must be heartbreaking to see her going through this. Thinking of you.
I have managed to get my gymming done this morning, but it wasn't easy :noway: Apart from the knee I think I'm suffering from a mini virus as I feel a bit achy and nauseous. I am giving the strength training a miss for today. At least I've made room for a few more calories. It didn't help that DH decided he would break his personal records this morning. I HATE him and told him so.
Chinese style fish tonight. With shiritaki noodles and broccoli. Not very arduous as I dont feel like fiddling around. I was going to start prep for the Burns Night today, but I am going to take it easy and send DH out for shopping. I've got loads of time. I did buy some lumpfish roe at the weekend to have with blinis and creme fraiche for some of the starter. The other will be salmon and cream cheese rolls which i have to make and blinis with home made pesto and parma ham for non fish lovers. I don't want them to eat TOO much before the haggis!:noway:
Definitely feeling off colour now. Yuk!
Love Heather, taking it easy in Hampshire UK0 -
The haggis is kind of grossing me out. Maybe it's just me.

Good morning my Vit F ladies!
Brr, it's a chilly one in London today - for once it's not raining though, which I'm grateful for as I spent ages straightening my hair and one drop of rain ruins it completely.
Yesterday was not a particularly nice day. I was suffering with my IBS and my gallbladder. This meant I didn't succeed in getting much done as far as my plans went. We had to go to see my dad and re-hang his bedroom curtains. They had fallen down in the night. Hmm, I think he may have been swinging on them. Then he got my DH to sort out his laptop and after that he got him to fix the computer in the shared dayroom of the sheltered accommodation house that he lives in. Didn't leave much time for either of us and I missed facetiming my DD#2. Grrr. Won't get a chance again until next Sunday which is my next day off.
Last night we had a lazy time playing cards. I had really wanted to go for a long walk, but only managed a forty minute stomp (TMI - couldn't be too far from a convenient loo!)
I had intended to prepare lunches for myself in advance for the week so that I could bring them into work, but didn't get time so I'll make do with soup each day. We have a small kitchen with a microwave here at the gallery, so at least I can get something hot. I've brought in a bag of apples too.
Anyhow my lovelies, have a good week and be well. Don't forget that it is just as important to look after yourself as well as others.
Love to all.

Good Morning everyone!
Looking thru these posts and there are some amazing success stories and progress here!! congratulations to all of you!!
I started using this program when a group of us are getting together at our workplace and doing a Diabetes Prevention program. I am doing something I have not done in awhile and that is staying low fat. For quite some time now I have been trying to only watch carbs. So I am making the switch to low fat/ low calories.0 -
Hi from sunny Bristol - I've rejoined last week after a couple of years break, I know it works. Trouble is I love cooking and baking, it part of my lifestyle, so it's going to be a long haul journey again. Saying that 2lbs has disappeared in one week!
All the best.
