Food posts on FaceBook- am I being mean?

Most of the time I ignore it.
UNLESS it's promoted as something good for you, low-cal, or the ubiquitous "lite". Then I might take the time and enter it into the MFP data base and see what the calories are. If it's outrageous, then I might post the cals/serving and say no thanks.
Sometimes I feel the same thing here on MFP - my favorite was protein oatmeal bites. Supposedly sooo good for you, but the damn little things were like 140 PER BITE, and who eats just 1 little bite like that? And they were suggesting to take them in a little baggie and snack on them in the car. Uh huh. No thanks. :grumble:

I just don't go on FB. Problem solved. :flowerforyou:0

You really shouldn't care so much. It's their Facebook accounts so they can post what they want. It's also kind of rude to post the calories for the items they're posting about. Just scroll past it. You'll feel better.
This.
Just scroll past it. lol.. seems quite simple and obvious to me.0 -
Last time I checked (at least for right now) we still have freedoms to do whatever we want!!!0

Those don't bother me as much as the exact opposite posts like that.. The ones where they claim it's "magic weight loss". Like the cabbage soup and the mint/fruit water. If they would of done a little research, they would find out that its not actually good for you.0

Really great points there!!
I've felt the same way here on MFP. Most notably last Fall. Someone posted about a "lighter" Halloween treat involving Greek yogurt, PB2, dark chocolate chunks, pumpkin puree, spices, nuts, and a few other ingredients. To the tune of about 270 cal. I stuck with my 150 cal Cadbury "screme egg" haha0 -
How about simply being tolerant of your friends' choices? Their journey is not your own.
After you posted such rudeness in response to one of my food posts a second time, you would either receive a sternly worded PM or else be booted from my page.0 -
So, I posted that info, just as a public service and all...

Your whole post is about YOU. How YOU feel, what YOU think, how awesome you are for what YOU are doing. The unspoken credit is to what a jerk YOU are because your delicate sensibilities are offended. How is it living in that glass house of yours?I don't think it's any of your business.
There is an obesity epidemic in this country and we spend an insane amount of our GDP on medical expenses, including the costs of all the conditions created and exacerbated by overweight and bad diets. It warms my heart when I read the Success Stories and read about how many meds people were able to discontinue (with their doc's agreement) after they lost weight.
We all pay for this care, through higher insurance premiums, higher taxes to fund health care for the poor, and covering for absences in the workplace. So yes, it IS my business. I also want everyone to feel the way I do. You know what I'm gonna do to celebrate my 61st birthday this weekend? I'm signing up for a sprint triathlon- 1/2 mile lake swim, 12 mile bike ride and a 5K. It saddens me to see how many people are in poor shape and just chalk it up to age or a sedentary job (I have one of those). It doesn't have to be that way.0 -

I only had a problem when the people who preached to me about how bad my choice of drink is (Diet Mt. Dew) posted their recipes full of sugar, additives, etc. I say "had" because I also deleted my facebook account and can also say it was the best thing I did. But as far as recipes being posted: I looked, sometimes saved them, even tried one. I honestly can't see how it's a big deal. There is an option to unfriend people or hide their posts. Use one of them.
Edited to make sure I was clear that I don't have a problem with sugar and other "unhealthy" things. I enjoy them! I just don't enjoy the guilt trips I get by hypocritical people.0 -
Fine. I'll settle for a chocolate ecclair pie recipe.....anyone?
Sorry I'm no help, but damn that looks good!0 -

Food porn fb posts make me happy. I will never make any of it, because a lot of the stuff seems like too much work.
But I like looking at it.
This is generally how I feel about it also. Once in a while it gives me ideas of things to make. But, it's nice to look at even if I choose not to make it.0 -
I love it when my friends post recipes. When I was on here previously I lost almost 50 pounds and I credit a couple of friends posting their healthy recipes and links on Facebook.
Some of the recipes are incredibly bad for you. But, that's just like life. You are going to see good and bad food for you food. In the end, I do better with moderation than restriction. If I see something I really want, I stick the recipe in MFP and see how many calories it is and what I need to do to burn it off. Then, I can decide if it is really worth it to me.0 -
You should be nicer to your friends. I love to bake, I just don't eat the stuff. My friends text me pictures of food they want me to make and enjoy eating what I make them.
I am aware that I am inconveniencing them with my rather selfish choice to diet.
Jackien2js, do you have a recipe for that chocolate eclair pie?0 -

Also, it can make me feel superior by commenting "Three boxes of cake mix, mixed with a can of coke?" That's not a recipe!0 -

You can't force people to live a certain way and shaming them into a "better" or " healthy" lifestyle isn't the way to go. You don't know what's going on in their lives. They know they are fat. They don't need you reminding them or shaming them for a food they like. It's cruel, toxic, very bullying and It's NOT your business. Just like it's not your business or place to remind smokers how bad it is or remind someone drinking a beer about the bad things alcohol can do to your body. Heck, RUNNING can be horrible for you too, but you're doing that with bells on.
If and when they decide to change their lives, they will do so on their own in their own time. No sooner. If you want to be a good friend, you'll cheer them through every victory, hug them when they fall and mind your own business until they ask for your help.
I'd rather be back where I started than be in a place where I'd feel I couldn't eat a slice of Millionaire Pasta because it's "bad." If I want to eat it, I will and I'll not feel guilty about it. I eat everything in moderation and am happier and healthier than I've ever been in my life. If *anyone* on my FB list had the flipping GALL to question something I'm eating, I'd tell them where to stick it.

It looks freaking DELICIOUS. If you don't want any, hand it the heck over.0 -
Can you just ask if that fit your friend's macros? :laugh:0
-
drives me nuts when ppl say anything in moderation, what the hell does that really mean??? on the MFP ppl who say you can treat yourself, you just have a bite to get your craving to go away,... I don't know one person be it skinny or heavy that can eat one bite of your favorite thing.......You gotta want this more then you want to eat anything........I keep telling myself personally NOTHING will ever taste as good as thin will feel...................0
-
sounds like whining to me.0
-
OMG...yet another person who says I'd rather be back where I was then to give up what I want.....0

I would never say anything to someone on fb about the recipes they choose to post. I will copy the recipe and share with a group of like-minded friends so we can all share in the horror of it together, and I am not a foodie by any means. I should note that I never get anything on my newsfeed that looks as deliciously awesome as that chocolate eclair pie, I get stuff that looks like this*:
*Not an actual recipe, but the best visual representation of the "Dear god, wtf IS that? Why? Why?" reaction that generally accompanies the recipes I get.0 -

I wouldn't say anything. It wouldn't bother me either if they posted fatty foods. I don't preach to people. I will share recipes I like, but ultimately what another person eats is their business, not mine. I might have an opinion about it, but I'm not going to share it with them at the expense of a friendship. If they ask me outright, I might say something diplomatic.0
