December Ellipitcal Challenge?

So I keep seeing walking challenges... and I know people who refer to ellipticals as a tool of torture... that said...
It's easy on my knees and back and I can burn plenty of calories on it. Would anyone care to join me for a December elliptical challenge? My goal is six days per week, minimum 30 minutes per day on the thing. I estimate that will give me just over two miles per day, 12 per week, about 50 for the month of December.
My invitation is this: Please come and join "the challenge" of hitting 50 miles on an elliptical in December! More is better but let's see if we can hit that mark as a minimum.
Who's with me?

I love this idea! I will help me get to the gym when I'd rather make an excuse. I am so in!0
-
I want to do this also. But all I have is a gazelle. Does that count?0
-
Great idea. I'm in!0

I usually spend an hour on the elliptical 5 to 6 times a week, but I am going to start cross-training. I think I can still make the numbers.0
-
wow 6 days a week. well I need some motivation so I am in!0

I love it. The elliptical is what I look forward to at the gym. I always do it after I finish my strength training. I say that we can do it!!0
-
I wouldn't know what an elliptical was if it smacked me in the mouth! If it fits in my pocket, then I'm in, if not, I'm out as I'll be travelling most of December.
But good luck anyway.0 -
I'm in, this sound like fun!0

Its too cold to walk outside for me now so my elliptical is my main exercise. I'm already doing 40 min 6 days a week but I want to get to an hour 6 days a week by the end of December.
I LOVE my livestrong elliptical! Best investment ever!0 -
I'm in....sigh I figure all of my exercise is paying off and I look smaller but today I am 2 lbs up. This would be a much better type of goal for me. It will be a challenge with my school clinicals, but I'm in. I'll start today...usually do 45 minutes but have no idea how far that is, so I'll get a ballpark of what I'm getting myself into.0

I'm in!! Let's do it!0

WOW!! Thanks for the great response!!!
So... start keeping track December 1. On New Year's Day we'll post our totals!!
19marie74: no clue what a gazelle is (unless you own the animal? LOL) The closest thing I can get to describing an elliptical (for movement) is cross-country skiing. If you're mimicking the movements I'd say it counts!
FYI: for those trying to estimate distance on ellipticals that don't keep track: I go about 120 paces per minute for my time. 30 minutes equals just over two miles for me. Estimate accordingly?
Who else is joining the party?0 -
oh screw it... I'M IN!0
-
Its the Tony Little's Gazelle Edge that I have. Its low impact on knees and joints. If it counts then count me in.0

Count me in, I need the motivation...0

Thanks everyone!!!
Reach out to your friends and throw down the gauntlet... The more of us there are doing it the more motivation each of us will have!!!0 -
It's December 1. Time to rock-n-roll!
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!0 -
Day two:
To meet that 50 mile challenge for the month you should be passing the 3.2 mile mark some time today! (1.6 miles per day)
For those of you not using an elliptical that will give you distance, I offer this suggestion for measure:
Aim for 120 paces per minute for 23 minutes (approximately) per day. That should put you at 50 miles for December (if you do it every day) and anything over that is good!0 -
I'm in!! I looked for this challenge yesterday and could not find it, my fault only!!!
12/1 -- 6miles while watching Oprah!
Remember to NOT beleive the calorie burn from the machine, get a heart rate monitor!! I own a Precor commercial grade elliptical and I also own a ProForm treadmill and both are higher than what my Polar F11 hrm calculates! Sad but true!!
I will be back later to post my daily cruise!!!
Thank you Frank for starting the elliptical challenge!!0 -
vhuber: you're welcome!!!
The gym I go to has precor machines and I actually do use those calorie counts (my HRM is on the fritz; gotta get a new one). However, I try to make up for that by not eating all my exercise calories and if I do any other exercise I take only half credit for any calories MFP tries to give me.
Six miles in a single day? That rocks!!! And here I was worried about 50 miles... I guess it should be the 100 mile challenge!!! LOL0 -
12/2 with 6 miles in 57:03 minutes! 12 down !!
Frank, thanks for the friend invite and I know I will pass the 50 mile mark but thats ok! I use my elliptical or the "dreadmill" for back up for when I cannot run outside or for when I am in between cardio dvd series! I workout EVERY day rain or shine!!0 -
Gauntlet heaved. I'm in. This is my first challenge here. Where do we post our workout results...publicly or personally?0
-
I'm in however, I'm going to shoot for 50 miles in the months of December. I choose the ellipitical any day of the week. Yesterday, I did a little short of 10 miles (9.65) yesterday on it. And I did another 3.6 miles today. So my total for December so far is 13.25 miles so far this month. Thanks for a great challenge!!! I am SO In!!!0
