Guys like heavier girls?

I was talking to my husband and one of his best friends (who is single) about weight loss the other week and (to make a long story short), they both mentioned that they would rather be with a girl who was a little heavier rather than a skinny-mini.

But of course I thought that MY idea of "heavy" and THEIR idea of "heavy" was not equal, to say the least. So I googled a photo of a girl size 6 and of a girl size 14...and guess which one they chose as the best looking? The girl size 14.

I was intrigued. As long as I can remember, I have been tormented about my weight, and for most of my adult life I have been a size 14. I was always referred to as "the fat friend" or "the chunky girl"...and it continues to haunt me. If these two guys chose the larger girl, surely it is a fluke, right? Maybe their particular taste is towards heavier girls in general?

I decided to ask a few more guys about it via Facebook, and 2 more guys in person. Instead of showing the same two girls, I chose two different photos for the Facebook group (one size 6, one size 14) and another set of photos for the in-person group (also one size 6, one size 14).

Of the 12 guys I spoke with total, 11 of them chose the girl size 14.

Hmmm.

So now, here's a question for the MFP guys: In general, do you prefer girls who are larger (possibily considered "overweight" by BMI/whatever standards), or a thin, toned girl?

    I work with a guy that says the same thing. I was looking through a runners magazine and said "damn i wish i could look like her" (im a size 12 she was probably like a 6 or 4 or....yeah) and you know what he said?....EW. Ew? What do you mean ew? I asked. He said she was NOT attractive...there wasnt anything too her! Now being healthy..yes a turn on...but being able to be blown away by the wind? No thanks!

    I was amazed...there he was this attractive military/cop/jersey guy...and ew. HE SAID EW....YAAAAAY!

    I think that a lot of this might not be which do they find more attractive, but which are they less threatened by / which do they think will not leave them for another better looking guy?

    I mean really - if guys really thought that heavier women were MORE ATTRACTIVE then there would be fluffy gals in all the porn (not just specialty more to love porn) and in all the action movies.

    But, which is more attractive and which are you comfortable sharing a relationship with are two totally separate questions. I'd be interested in seeing a study with slightly different worded questions to find if this makes for different responses.

    also, key question - who had bigger boobs? :wink: :laugh:

    That's what I've been told many times!

    And I also remember watching Chicago (the movie version) and having a guy friend comment on how sickly the dancers looked.

    This is so true- I did not even think of this. Maybe I'll have to do another Facebook poll?

    Oh, and the size 14 had way bigger boobs! LOL!

    I prefer girls that are a bit more curvy, really skinny, or even skinny for that matter, doesn't appeal to me :/
    I'd rather have a girl that's a bit big, What can I say, I like 'em curvy ^^

    You should be comparing the same person just one a size 14 and one. Size 6 and ask whick they like better. Maybe the 14 is prettier in the face or hair ? Hmmmm just a thought

    A psych class I took said it was something instinctive about being able to breed good babies - a more nurturing look.

    Marilyn Monroe is one person we usually hold out as a bombshell. Guess what? She was size 14.

    Statistically, "skinny minis" have just as many healthy problems as overweight person.

    "big girls" are the way to go.

    But thanks for reminding everyone that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we should be happy with ourselves.

    Healthy should be the goal, not a size.

    I love a woman with curves, but it has never had an impact on my choice in women. We have to be moving in the same direction on all levels. My wife's physical appearance isn't what keeps us together; it's just an added bonus.

    Maybe they do like a little bigger but I've gotten a TON more compliments now that I'm sort of a "skinny minnie":) But have heard the comments about the "top" too since unless you have surgery it is usually lacking:)

    My boyfriend has always told me that he prefers bigger girls. He was asked me several times "You're not going to lose too much weight are you?" He also told me that when he was younger he and his friends would hang out around Lane Bryant and Torrid in the mall to hit on girls. LOL.

    My husband and I had this discussion. I was looking up my "Healthy" weight range and it was between 114-155, and I asked him, if he could have it HIS way, which weight would he like and to my surprise he said closer to the 155! He said 114, or skinny, was just not what he liked.

    Keep this in mind as well, Marilyn Monroe was mostly a size 14-16...she was the EPITOME of beauty for a long time, and still is...

    I believe many men like curves. I'm dumbfounded at the attention I get.

    "Really, this hamhock (thats what I call my thighs) you think is appealing?" "Really?!!!"

    I quit arguing about it. Who am I say that I'm not a "hot mama"!!!

    But then on the other end there are those who think I'm unappealing so....as they say.."beauty is in the eye of the beholder"!

    All I have to worry about is the one who decides to marry me!! If he's happy, that's will work for me!

    Of all the guys I've talked to they like a little meat. Soft curves...normally size 10-14.

    My boyfriend says I'm 'thick skinny'. Clever little guy... :laugh:
