I don't tip my Dentist at all. I have never heard of tipping your Dentist.

Same here! I'm definitely not planning to start either since she's already getting enough money from me and my insurance company to fund her brand new Mercedes.

nobody is obliged to tip their dentist.
ive certainly never seen it in the time ive worked in dentistry.
if you want to tip i guess u could; they're not gonna turn it down but they already make a ridiculous amount of money.

Tipping a dentist? That's like tipping a police officer who writes me a speeding ticket. Yikes!

Um, NOT A DAM THING. He lives in twice the house as me, lives on the water, has new cars, fancy bikes and his wife doesn't work. I'd say he get's paid plenty.

    ^^^^ this

I assume that anyone in the medical profession is charging enough money to take into account their level of education, degree of specialisation and their time. If they're not then the problem lies with the clinic or hospital management.

Then you better assume you're not going to get the best Care.
    Stay Safe.

^^ Yup, and your assumption is pretty wrong on the pay side too, its insurance companies that are paid well for certain, the rest is fought for and up for grabs...and more and more now than it ever used to be. In Bulgaria, you'd better have tipped your MD before your procedure, or he might get "sloppy"...seen the poor results before, and it was even a mis connection in this case that caused the "tip" to not be paid before surgery...sloppy closure after surgery seemed to be almost akin to the stereotypical ill mannered chef spitting in your food because you don't tip well...

I believe in the west this "practice" is called "medical malpractice" and you can lose your licence for it. Maybe these countries should follow suit.

I've never heard of tipping a dentist, but I have a friend who tips the dental hygienist, but that is just because he smokes cigars and his breath stinks.

The only tip I've ever given my dentist was "you should get more current magazines"...

Does that count? Otherwise, tipping a medical professional is ridiculous.

Dentists are scumbags! Work 3-4 days a week, charge insane prices and on top of that make you take time off work so you don't make them work long hours!

    I'M A PROUD ANTI-DENTITE!!!

That doesn't change the fact that in the US, it is expected that you tip your Dentist.

Do you just post to show people your lack of intelligence?

People in the States, Canada or UK don't tip their dentist, Most likely neither do a lot of other places.
Maybe you should go to a dentist one day and see for yourself, I'm sure your mother would be happy to book you an appointment.
You only tip those that are in the service industry , Ex. Wait staff, tour guides, bellmen, cab drivers, hair dressers ect.
Tips are generally done to subsidize low wages that are common among the service industry, A dentist isn't among those where a tip is expected.

    Stop being an ignorant brat.

Wow I can't believe anyone would tip a dentist. I always believed that tipping was reserved for services rendered that are not adequately salaried. If someone earns 4 or 5 times what I earn, then I'm not about to give them more of my hard earned cash just to do the job they are already paid for.

I only tip what I can afford, usually tip what I deem appropriate for the service I've received and everyone I know does the same thing. We have no set amount of 10%, 20% etc, just depends on what we can afford compared to what service has been provided. Then again, I'm in the UK and tipping is no where near as prevalent as in the US and people don't usually rely on tips to top up their salaries.
