At Geek Loss: Don't be intimidated!
When I started cycling it was on an old rust-bucket steel frame Ross with barely functional pedals. It was given to me as payment for cutting down a tree. I think the guy just was too lazy to bring it to the dumps.
As life would have it, I started out cycling on the flatest road I could find on that bike. I road only 1 mile wearing sweat pants and a tee shirt. After 3 successfully completed rides of 1 mile length, I would increase it another mile. Then again after 3 days I would increase again and so on.
Eventually, after 18 months of loyal service the bike died. I bought a new touring road bike. A heck of a lot lighter and easier to pedal.
I feel sorry for people that buy the best bike in the shop because I feel they have no real appreciation for the new technology that have come along with bikes. I am yammering though...
So,The best thing is to get out and ride, set a goal of where you want to be or what you want to achieve. If possible set small goals and then set a big one based on your successes. Remember "enjoy the ride".0 -
Yep GeekLoss, the great thing about those doing 30 miles is that they started by doing 2 or 3 miles! I did the same thing. Just ride and keep riding. The fact you have 3 rides in there is awesome.
I love how these threads for full of regular people just trying to "keep riding". Some people are noobs and some are old pros. I see some coming back from injuries. Some inspiring stories that you can feed off of to motivate yourself. Sometimes those 4 or 5 miles rides are the most motivating for me since I see the adversity in which they ride them. If they can keep riding, then so can I!0 -

Unfortunately I live in Northern IL and we just keep getting more and more snow. BUT.. this last weekend a friend had a "fat bike fest" and invited people out to ride the trails from his house on fat bikes (like mountain bikes with 4-5" wide tires). Had a blast, put about 3 hard ridden miles in. Riding in the snow is a pretty tough workout. (I'm a roadie and a mountain biker, and I've ridden centuries on the road bike and some hard off road miles on the mountain bike..)
Anxiously awaiting for the snow to melt, otherwise the only place I will be riding any of my bikes is around my front room.

GeekLoss, keep it up! My first bicycle ride was nearly 30 years ago on flat roads. When I limped home, I had to lay on the lawn for 20 minutes before I had the energy to unlock the house. With every ride I loved cycling more!0 -

Didn't ride for most of November and all of December. Managed to get 75 miles in for January, 24 road and 51 trainer. Had set a goal for 100 in February but got sick and only got 70, 20 road and 50 trainer. Determined to get at least 100 in March and make up for some of my shortages in Jan and Feb to eventually meet my 1200 mile goal for the year. So far...
3/1 - 30.96 road miles
3/4 - 6.36 trainer miles
3/5 - 5 trainer miles
Mtd - 42.32 miles0 -
Have done a little riding this winter, but not a lot. I'm doing a metric century in May so I just started training for that a couple of weeks ago...this is what this week has looked like so far and plans for the rest of the week.
3/2 - 30 miles event tempo (long ride)
3/4 - 15 miles easy pace (endurance)
3/5 - 10 miles sprint (stamina)
3/7 - Advanced spin class
3/8 - 33 miles event tempo (long ride)0 -
I've been trying to drop 10lbs a month since January. Hasn't worked out that well, I'm fluxuating between 15-18lbs lost. AHH! But, must keep at it! Trying to drop my weight down to 185-195. (I was 267lbs when I started cycling a few years ago.)
Did 2 criteriums last year (wasn't DFL), 1 underground road race (top 100 out of 1000+), and one alley cat race (placed 4th).
Just slowly trying to creep my way to success! I want to climb faster and sprint longer.0 -

In for March! Been picking up my miles again and doing hills. 50 - 70 Miles a week is my goal. I ride outside when its nice and do sufferfest indoors when its not (which might as well be the same allweather torture)
Im on strava if you wanna be follow friends.0 -
Our Wednesday Night Club ride my wife and I lead was rained out (It has to rain really hard for club ride to be cancelled) so tonight we did an easy spin. I will be racing in a time trial on Saturday, so I took it very, very easy tonight.
