I'm gonna start helping lead a Monday night ride from Fountain Valley, CA.

Might also get a Wednesday or Thursday night ride going. We need a bigger night ride scene in OC! (Best part of living in Los Angeles, many night rides.)

Bunch of stinky colleges kids and a few older dudes. Spicy paces, and lots of corn dogging (and beer drinking sometimes).

Didn't ride for most of November and all of December. Managed to get 75 miles in for January, 24 road and 51 trainer. Had set a goal for 100 in February but got sick and only got 70, 20 road and 50 trainer. Determined to get at least 100 in March and make up for some of my shortages in Jan and Feb to eventually meet my 1200 mile goal for the year. So far...
    3/1 - 30.96 road miles
    3/4 - 6.36 trainer miles
    3/5 - 5 trainer miles

    Mtd - 42.32 miles

    3/7 - 5.04 trainer miles

    Mtd - 47.36 miles

I like cycle touring. My panniers and bar bag weigh 30lb so I am aiming to loose that over 3 months by riding 10 miles a day with many small hills. This equates to 700 calories per day or 3500 calories per week which is 1lb of fat. Added to that is the 1lb a week I am losing with my diet.

Cycling is a great way to speed up weight loss. 10 miles takes an hour.

Check out strava.com. It's a free cycling app. They have monthly mileage challenges that are great to keep you motivated, as well as social networking with other cyclists and virtual racing if that's your thing. It's almost the best thing for cycling since the invention of the wheel.

I'm new to MFP, my exercise is a 40 min round trip on my Townie to the dog park with my 3 yr old in a trailer and my Aussie by my side.

I would like to branch out to some easy trails around Santa Cruz in the next week. I think I want to have my bike serviced before I do that though.

Any tips on wheels? I think mine are considered hybrid and I'm a little worried about how they will respond to non-paved roads.
