I rode much harder than I really should have today as I had to get back in time for my granddaughters first birthday. And it must has been a hard ride because my PowerTap hub started flaking out on my half way through the ride. I'm thinking I need to replace the batteries.

I did a challenge similar to this and was so far off my goal it was ridiculous. I'm going for a measly 30 miles this month. I can get that easily.0

I'm gonna start helping lead a Monday night ride from Fountain Valley, CA.
Might also get a Wednesday or Thursday night ride going. We need a bigger night ride scene in OC! (Best part of living in Los Angeles, many night rides.)
Bunch of stinky colleges kids and a few older dudes. Spicy paces, and lots of corn dogging (and beer drinking sometimes).
Corndoggin sounds awesome!!!
Night rides are corndogging at it's best! Nothing like sneaking a beer in mid ride, by walking into a bar in lycra with a buncha stinky dudes. Chicks dig our bike shorts.0 -

I'm new to MFP, my exercise is a 40 min round trip on my Townie to the dog park with my 3 yr old in a trailer and my Aussie by my side.
I would like to branch out to some easy trails around Santa Cruz in the next week. I think I want to have my bike serviced before I do that though.
Any tips on wheels? I think mine are considered hybrid and I'm a little worried about how they will respond to non-paved roads.0 -

Blanphere, crashed twice?? Be careful.
A crash for me is more like falling over in slow-motion trying to get used to clip-ins! Just a little road rash on my palm and nice puffy bruise on my wrist. I'm not very coordinated. Oddly enough - I"m much less likely to injure myself on a bike than I am walking!
I am still completely smitten with spinning class. I might be the only one on the thread that likes using a trainer / spin bike and riding inside. I don't have a road bike - I have my boyfriend's cast off mountain bike that I don't think fits me all that well. I really don't have a huge desire to do organized rides or really long rides. I enjoy riding outside for fitness and enjoying nature with friends and family.
That being said, what kind of bike do I really need? I'm new to all of this, and all my friends that ride are trying to get me into the latest carbon high tech road bikes. But I don't think that's what I really want. I want versatility, a light weight frame, I don't think I want fixed - I like to coast downhill. I know I don't want another cruiser / hybrid comfort bike - too heavy.
Any suggestions??0 -
Blanphere, I'd say you should get a road bike. You aren't that interested in a hi tech carbon fiber $$ at this time, so why don't you check used first. You have a good selection available in mid & smaller sizes, low miles, & only a few yrs old. Many bike shops will make free adjustments on their used bikes, but other sources are out there.
