Planet Fitness Tell Woman to Cover Up

The fact is they are a cardio studio. They call themselves a gym, yet discourage real weight lifting. Yet they do a good job of marketing to their demographics, which is a very profitable demographic. Which is those that want to get in shape, join up, but never show up. (These are the people gyms needs to help make a profit. The drawback is, that means they are pushing other gyms to drop their prices or chasing real gyms out of business.0

It's really a shame certain locations take things to such an extreme. The Planet Fitness I go to is great. The trainer I work with there is amazing and incredibly helpful. The staff is amazing. People work out in whatever they want to. There's a girl that always run in her sports bra and I admire her. Those who lift keep the grunting and dropping of weights to a minimum (basically only doing it when it's physically necessary) and I've only hear the "lunk alarm" go off once.
Yes, their bagel Tuesdays and pizza Mondays are a little crazy and their whole marketing campaign is a little off putting, but I've had amazing experiences at Planet Fitness and I really can't afford to go anywhere else.
I just wish some locations do stupid stuff like this.
If you like it, then great, the rates are fair and the hours tend to be true 24 hours, but I have had friends that tried it and set the lunk alarm off while they were on the treadmill huffing and puffing.0 -

Its a big red light on the wall that's attached to a purple sign that says Lunk alarm and it flashes and makes noise if someone is being a "lunk"...No grunting, no dropping weights, no judging. i can tell you if they used it every time someone didn't wipe the machines off it would be going nonstop at my pf!0 -

I'm not really sure the point of your response. I'm not saying it doesn't happen. Obviously it does. Or else this thread, and the 7 others I've seen about this exact same situation, wouldn't exist. I'd prefer to go to another gym, but show me another gym in my area that will charge me $10 a month with free access to a personal trainer, and I'll sign up.
It's not like I'm denying the ridiculousness that certain PF locations partake in, I'm just saying it's not the case for every location and a lot of people can see great success. I might be taking a lot of these comments personally, but myself, and many others who attend PF, are extremely serious about fitness. We just happen to be tight on money. It just seems a lot of people are lumping together the bad marketing of PF with the people who go there, and that's not always the case.0 -

How does it get set off? Do one of the employees just creep on people and press a button when they feel somebody is doing one of these things?0 -

How did they know that the "lunk alarm" was set off because of them? I've never heard of it being set off for someone huffing and puffing on a treadmill. And I huff and puff on the treadmill 2-3 times a week, yet I've never set off the "lunk alarm".0 -

I have no idea. I have never seen it go off in mine. You can't even find help when a machine is busted!0 -

I would totally do it on those who don't wipe down but I can't see the grunting or huffing and puffing being an issue. You're not doing it to be rude, its just a natural thing!0 -

LOL Planet Fitness has a free pizza and bagel night every month for members...enough said
Yeah, I heard they force anyone who's a member to eat that pizza, too! Because they want to keep their customers fat so they keep coming back. It's a great business model!
I guess I showed them. I've belonged to PF for 6 years and I've never eaten the pizza on pizza night. Not because I don't want to, I LOVE pizza and eat it at least once a week, but too many grubby hands are touching it which grosses me out.
I'm still waiting for one of the staff to jump over the counter and tackle me to force a Tootsie Roll down my throat. I must not come in at the right time, because I've never even seen the pizza or bagels. I'm just thankful my PF doesn't do any of the things people here complain about all the time. The trainer is awesome, most of the staff is knowledgeable about the equipment (except the guy who told me the EZ curl bar was for rows), and there's a good mix of people of all fitness levels. I've never even heard the lunk alarm, and I've heard plenty of grunting, to the point where I had to stifle laughter because I thought I was listening to porn.0 -
I've been going to Planet Fitness for the last 2 years and have never seen any of the stuff people are saying. There are no alarms, pizza night and tons of women dress the same way this young lady dresses and some of them probably should not be wearing the same thing she wears. Sounds like some locations are pretty over the top with this Lunk stuff. Glad mine isn't.0
-
I didn't read the article, but I will say form personal experience, PF is a complete joke. I don't really even know how they get away with calling themselves a gym...
If you can't...
or...
or...
Then you are not a gym.
PF is pretty much good for...
and some pizza afterwards, and that's about it.
Well said0 -

Well, I belong to that "non-gym" and had a slice of pizza last month! The staff tied me up and force fed me and I had no choice. It's so ridiculous that so many people on here complain about that. Wow, that makes PF such a bad gym. Give me a frigging break!!!0 -
Yeah, because pizza once a month is going to freeze progress.
This is more about a dress code. Bloggers are being fancy with wording talking about "Planet Fitness asks her to hide her body!" No...Planet Fitness and many other places have a dress code. I've seen the YMCA ask a woman to cover up because she was basically in a glorified pair of underwear and bra that had a Nike logo on it. If you want to work out naked, stay at home.
She joined knowing they had a dress code and she signed a contract acknowledging that she was aware there was a dress code! How is this news? She's an attention *kitten* looking for a payday. I look at Planet Fitness like Curves. It's a place people can go to without feeling judged. If Planet Fitness thinks they have to have a dress code to accomplish this, then so be it. Just don't whine about it after you sign the contract!
WYS!!! I'm a Planet Fitness member and really enjoy my gym. AND why didn't anyone tell me about pizza night there??? I'm calling now to find out when the next one is. : )0 -
I belong to planet fitness and I like it, I get a good workout when I go. That being said I do think they were wrong for telling her to put on a shirt. We have women dress like that in the PF i go to and nobody complains. It's not offensive to see someone in shape and toned.0

not that i really want to defend them, but they do specifically advertize themselves as 'not a gym'0 -
Wouldn't bother me at all. Great motivation for me to keep up my routine.:happy:0
