You do know that the fda regulates pet food too, right? The fda also allows one rodent hair per package of human food. Cats have been eating cat food for decades. HERE you can find the right food for your cat: VET APPROVED. http://www.petmd.com/cat/slideshows/nutrition-center/choosing-best-cat-food

You're welcome. it won't be an overnight success I am sure, but just like getting fit, it won't start happening at all until you take the first step. Good luck with the funky feline. Meanwhile, I'm gonna go snuggle with mine on the couch and watch Warehouse 13.

I have a 15 lb Ragdoll who is 5 years old. He is "overweight" according to the vet. He eats a few treats and dry food at 4:30AM and doesn't get fed again until 4:30/5PM (wet food).

Holy crap, my cat weighed in at a hefty 14 pounds at 7 months! (And, he only eats cat food, no treats.)

I think you meant to post this on meowfitnesspal. That site helped my Mittens lose 10 pounds - would highly recommend.

and try the laser light training stimulators...

oh and as boogie is obviously long haired, you have to weigh him naled in the morning, the best way to do that is shave the cat before bed , so in the morning he has evicted all the hair balls leftover from his internal organs ,

ETA oh you dont have to be naked to weigh him, just the cat.

That is mission impossible. I myself want to stay alive, and I can't afford to hire Tom Cruise.

Just in case this is a semi serious post :-)

I built the equivalent of MFP into a google docs spreadsheet (i.e. excel), believe it or not, for our older dog! She was rather overweight and needed to loose at least 5 lbs before going in for Anterior Cruciate Ligament surgery (she was 105lbs at the time and they wanted her below 100lbs). The Vets said her goal weight should be around 80lbs, but due to her injuries she was/is unable to add much in the way of physical activity to loose weight. So I decided to apply what I learned from my own experiences on MFP and count calories for her :-)

Of course MFP did not have dog foods in it, and canine/feline metabolisms are a bit different from humans, but the info is documented and out there, and most kcal values of most pet foods can be found on their manufacturer websites.

It worked rather well and she is now a trim 80lbs, and the Vet cannot believe we applied the same logic/tools we used to loose weight towards out dog.

Here is a link to the tool I built, feel free to use it for your cat (canine/feline calculations were the same)

NOTE: Pet food is some of the most calorie dense stuff out there from what I have seen! 1 cup of the BLUE Healthy Weight Chicken and Brown Rice dog food that I feed my dog is 410 calories, while a large treat (Geenies) is 145 calories! Cat food is no better mind you, with the dry food coming in right around the 450 calorie mark per cup as well (wet food about 200 calories a can).

My little girl after her 25lb weight loss.

Oh my dog! What a beautiful dog you have. I'll pray tonight for her health. I REALLLLLLYYYYY appreciate your help. I decided to only feed my cat natural foods, and after a visit to a specialist on cat nutrition, we will see if the cat needs supplements, or even better if I can get him the vitamins he needs from natural foods. But if the vet says Boogz needs to slim down a lil, I will be sure to use your method.
    Good luck with everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks a million times!

p.s. the best part about your story is that exercising was not an option. That suits my lazy Boogz just fine.

Yes, you're right. But so many things are regulated these days, like GMOs. Regulations don't mean quality.
Here's an article that sums up what I have been reading about in the past. I have also reviewed many individual stories about cat food, and the major complaint has been kidney problems.
    http://www.littlebigcat.com/nutrition/why-dry-food-is-bad-for-cats-and-dogs/
this is just on dry food, but there were many more reasons I decided not to feed Boogie any of the processed foods, be it for humans or animals.
My mom's cat story was the one that scared me in the first place. At the age of 8 her cat simply fell asleep and never woke up. She would always feed him with the best possible cat foods out there. Still, he was overweight. By the end of his life, he had difficulty controlling his bladder. And gradually he began to lose sight. A vet student, who sold my mom an apartment said that he would never feed his pets with any of the commercial foods. That's when I started searching for info on cat food. Then, I arrived at a firm opinion never to feed my future cat (now Boogie) any of that crap.
I really hope the tests will reveal why Boogz is so attached to the fridge.
Take good care of your kitties :)
