This thread's existence suggests that the concept of an avatar is difficult for many to grasp.

I'd take you a bit more serious if you could learn to spell.

You think some of these pictures are of real people and not a picture they picked off of the web?

I'll use whatever picture I want!

This is one of the most REDiculous discussions ever. This is not a nanny site.

Thank you. Also, stop sending me photos of your pets on your Christmas cards.

Wow, this man posted an opinion and posed a question and you guys are interrogating him like he's the Son of Sam. People on this site can be so freaking rude it's unbelievable.

I don't even use my own profile pic.

Personally, I never ever post pictures of my kids anywhere online. There are too many cracker jacks out there.

    agreed

I've decided... I don't want anyone to post their face. No really. I don't want to see your face. It's not MyFacePal.. it's myFITNESSpal. If you can't show me evidence of your fitness - or quest to achieve it - in your profile pic, then why are you here? Cmon... seriously.

Okay, okay, I will show just a pic of my body....
Oh wait, I am not showing fitness or that I am in shape - unless round is a shape.
Oh, I think my pic is also, in a round about way, still a picture of my kid too.

these types are an exception.... everybody loves a baby bump!
and if they don't... well I do.

And I'm the decider of profile pic protocol.

    So... we're good. ;)

On here it makes sense, being that a lot of people put their kids on their profile as their motivation! It does annoy me on Facebook, though.

I will be honest. The only thing I have against people using their children as their profile pic has to do more with the predators out there.

Other than that I couldn't care less what someones profile picture is (there have been pictures though that I look at and think "Really? THAT'S the best picture you can come up with!?)

Even if it isn't a head shot. At least it is YOU!... or is it? :/

Is it creepy if I use someone else's children as my profile pic?

Why does it even matter what photo someone uses as their profile pic? Who cares?

apparently quite a few people do.

especially if you change your pic to a close up of boobs and butt... then it REALLY gets heated in here.

This is not a social networking site, it's a wellness site, and people forget that every individual has to look at their own profile image when they are on MFP. So for some who may be getting in shape for their kids, looking at their kids every time they log in is a motivator. My images are up for me, not for you. Every once in a while I throw one up there so my MFP friends get a little peek into my life and not just my diet but for the most part, that picture on there is my motivation, not my display of myself for your benefit.

My pic is not myself, nor is it my pet or my child, but it sure motivates the hell out of me. :D

Personally, I don’t give a crap about profile pictures…I change mine as my mood strikes me. Sometimes it’s a picture of me; sometimes it’s whatever is on my mind at that moment (like Frank Zappa in this case).

    This.
I sometimes used pictures of my dog, random stock pictures. The current picture is actually me, but I'll change it on a whim.

Sometimes I use my husband's picture or pic of his body instead. That's been interesting. Then I have young women sending me friend requests.

I still think it's weird as hell how many people actually use photos of themselves. That is not at all something people did when I was Learning The Internets. (I understand that this is a fitness site and people therefore want to show their progress, but it's still weird to me. Hell, my FB profile picture isn't even a picture of me, it's a diagram of bloodflow through an amphibian heart (AKA magic).)

I do it from time to time if I have a cute one. Don't keep them up long.

I like myself enough I'm happy to show my face or body.

Questioning this isn't so much douchey. Maybe the delivery was. :)

I'll put crayon to paper for you. I'll even make it personal. Just promise you won't try to sell it.

I don't see the problem of using them. What's it to you. They're cute. I'm not. Plus I wish to remain anonymous. I try to keep my internet footprint as small as possible.
