about 1/2 of what you run... so if yo walk a mile... run two (or jog) ...an dYES there is a difference between a runner and a jogger... by about 3-4 MPH

LOL sadly most of the joggers I see are only going like 4.5MPH so that's only like 1MPH faster than walking.

Yeah but they are lapping everyone on the couch.

Just curious, is your profile picture a recent picture of you?

If so, what makes you think you need to lose 17 pounds? (I checked out your profile page)
Last month. Well, honestly, I pay more attention to pant sizes rather than weight, because muscle weighs more than fat, and if I can muscle, and become thinner, it's possible to stay the same weight as before. But I assumed it was required so I put a weight that would be nice to have, Haha.

I started running after starting my own walking program. I know nothing about asthma or how you need to deal with that walking or running, but you could adapt as needed. I committed to time instead of miles.....20 minutes per day when I first started......rain, shine, wind, snow. 10 minutes out, 10 minutes back. Give it two weeks and you will want to add more time and you will pick up the pace naturally. I personally listen to music when I go.....if you are into that, put 20 minutes on the play list and walk it out.

Anything is better than nothing and the consistency may help you work out the breathing with your asthma by ramping it up gradually.

    Good luck!

That is extremely helpful, thank you very much!

You need to eat more than 1200 calories.
I'm vegan. Not much out there that I can afford. Hard to avoid dairy and meat. It's everywhere I go. I try though.

Then either change your lifestyle or stop making excuses.
How am I making excuses just because I can't afford to eat more than 1200-1400 calories a day?

As an ex-vegan I can say it's very easy to get fat, even eating a low-fat vegan diet. So you can definitely get lots of calories, especially from whole grains and soy products, since soy is the fattiest of the beans. And raisins pack a lot of calories. You can make a simple and cheap trail mix from peanuts and raisins to carry around with you. Add some sunflower seeds if you want. Buy in bulk when you can.

    I'll try that, thank you.

I have granddaughters your age and even a bit older. Called one a "Princess" one day to her mother. You sound like her lol. I have asthma, have had for many years. You can still do some exercise, even if it is not running. Also, you say you are vegan and yet you do not seem to understand that your body needs certain nutrients or you can run into serious trouble. Listen to the folks on here that are trying to help you. Make sure you are getting protein in some form every day . You do not have much weight to lose so get out there and learn to be healthy!!

As a fellow asthmatic and someone with many allergies, just wanted to encourage you not to give up. I've gone from not being able to run a 1/4 mile due to asthma to running marathons. Have you considered just counting steps (instead of miles) to simplify things with a pedometer or fitbit or vivofit (Garmin one I use)? I'd try run-walk-run system to give you breaks if you need them (I do that to help with my asthma). Hopefully you are getting help from a specialist for your asthma and allergies. We do have a "Losing Weight with Asthma" group here on MFP for support if that's helpful. Like some others in the thread have said, generally speaking, the more I run, the less trouble I have with my asthma. That may not be the case for everyone.

How do you plan on gaining muscle when undereating?

I won't even get too deep into the fact that a pound of anything weighs the same as a pound of something else.

You cannot gain muscle if you are eating in a deficit.

I don't have to be vegan to know what my body needs, though. I'm vegan strictly because I care too much about animals to eat them, or anything that they were tortured in farms to make.
I try to keep track of what my body needs, but it's seriously hard. Plus I have zero motivation. Yes. Another excuse. But I am trying to be healthy. Tis why I'm on here. But thanks.

I'm not TRYING to undereat. I just don't get hungry often, and when I do, I eat what I can of what's available, and not on my list of foods not to eat.

I know. But I don't have many resources food wise. And I can be picky when it comes to food.

Then why did you say it. I am celiac, you learn to adjust. It really sounds like you just want to justify not eating properly to fuel your body.

I am not being mean but I really think you need to talk to a professional.

You can create a dozen accounts on here with the intention of getting healthy, but if they're full of excuses, what good are they? If you have all these limitations/excuses in your life, you might have to "crack a few eggs to make an omelet," so to speak. You should probably re-evaluate your priorities, and life, while you're at it.

    NO, just NO!
Muscle does not weigh more than fat
They weigh exactly the same, one just takes up less space than the other.

Pant sizes are the last possible thing you should use to gauge accurate weight, sizes and cut's vary from shop to shop and manufacturer to manufacturer, you'd be better off looking in a mirror and guessing.

Your coming out with so many reason as to why you "can't" eat this or that that's it's obvious you just don't want to, if you really wanted to you would find a way round these issues.

Also from what I know, you don't just "obtain" asthma if you weren't born with it, something triggered it, find out what that trigger is, something happend in the last year for it to be triggered.

So, yeah. I'm out. I know you all think I'm making excuses and trying to justify certain things. But I really just wanted to know about the walking a certain amount of miles. I suddenly realized this site is full of people who want to put you down for not doing it right, and not knowing how, or being able to afford it. This is the reason I have zero motivation to do certain things. So thanks for the insight. I know now that this site is a horrible one when it comes to questions or motivation. :) Deleting account now. You may rant about me alllll you want. And to the people who ACTUALLY helped me without getting *****y: Thank you! Really helped.

Awww. She left. I did notice in her parting post she blamed "this site" for her lack of motivation ... so an hour and a half of her posting history is to blame.

If you'll excuse me I need to get ready to go to a BBQ and make sure I don't undereat by trying to adhere to vegan principles that were not researched or thought out as the OP admitted to.

Hear that, everyone? MFP is why she has zero motivation. Well done.

You know, I was just thinking this morning that I was missing HoneyLissaBee... This wasn't quite as good but it did scratch that itch.

Well that was a nice change. She will probably create another account tomorrow. I mean honestly more than half of her crap was bull****.
