Yeah. But people come in here confused and I hate to leave them twisting the wind/setting themselves up for failure/at the mercy of beachbody coaches.0 -
Well, I made a whole batch of stuffed grape leaves yesterday. It came up to 900 calories total. I had it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A whole cauliflower, 1/2 pound of turkey, raisins, and a ton of grape leaves. It was delicious, and, more than that, it was filling. By the time I finished each meal, I could hardly eat another bite. For dessert, I had an apple with a teaspoon of nutella. That brought my total up to 1030 calories, and I decided that the remaining 170 had been spent on the crystal light and coffee I had. 1200 calories, and I didn't go to bed hungry, didn't wake up hungry.
What's wrong with that?0 -
I don't think they are lying.
I think they have either 1) been doing low cal so long they are used to low amounts something has changed in their metabolism or psyche or 2) they have worked out really heavy that day.
The former has happened to my mother recently while recovering in the hospital. The latter happens to me anytime I do a workout harder than usual my appetite is bad until the next day. Then i make up for it.
Sometimes I think those people are taking a "daily goal" too literally and freaking out when their MFP diary gives the red warning of "starvation mode" which prompts those posts.
It's the only thing I can think of for the pervasiveness of those threads. It's better to look at it as a week at a time so as not to freak out from single day overages or deficits.0 -

I know people like that...it isn't me though. I have to eat the same amount of calories as you eat or more, to feel like I have eaten anything. I don't see how anyone gets full off 1300 calories, it just makes me wonder....0

No one is lying at least I am not like most people eating less calories. I will say one thing when you know how to cook healthy low calorie food that are tasty and nutritious you will be surprise at what is in your plate. Cooking is not all about mac and cheese and fried food, there is a whole world out there of recipes that are very satisfying including those delicious stuffed wine leaves. My whole diet is based on middle eastern and armenian food and let me tell you, you dont go hungry.
By the way nothing wrong with american food it is just that some if it is high in calories.0 -

I eat in those calorie ranges and I'm fine. Everybody is different and further more 1200 calories of veggies and 1200 of burgers well you figure it out. Obviously you're getting much smaller serving of burger. Not saying I straight up eat vegetables but I try to use my calories wisely. Also, the smaller you get you will probably need less calories to lose weight also.
I don't how this has anything to do with being fat either. Some of us are on here to watch macros or maintain. I'm not trying to lose a tremendous amount of weight but the closer I get to my goal the fewer calories I am going to be able to eat to lose weight. Not to mention I count my calories on a weekly basis not a daily on so I have way more light meals on my regular days and then when I get around to my cheat day I can eat the junk I might be craving and not put weight loss at a stand still or a gain.
Basically I'm saying everyone is different.0 -
My main hypocritical question is the weight loss tickers vs join date. If you can't eat more than 1200 calories but joined three years ago, by now you've lost all your weight, right? Hypocritical because in my case my join date is not when I started logging. I'm not even sure I know what MFP was really for until a bit over a year ago. But if that's not other people's reason, then I confuse :ohwell:
I joined years ago. I started last month. It took me that long to get pissed off to take the matter into my own hands and stop relying on doctors to figure it out.
I laughed a little too hard at this. I probably should use my inhaler just to be safe :laugh: Here's to taking matters into our own hands! :drinker:0 -

I eat between 1200-1700 a day.. and I should be eating much more. I track on here (again as of recently) and I have a bodybugg.
It tells me to eat between the two sites 2100-2700 a day. I burn 4500 calories on an average day of my fast paced job to my workout.
I struggle to eat more than that. Do you want to know why? My metabolism.
My whole childhood I ate out every single meal.. and whatever I wanted.. and drank as much pop as one could even imagine in a single day. Then when I become an adult I started skipping breakfast, to lazy to cook.. Then lunch would come around and I was busy.. then at dinner I would pig out on whatever I was eating. Probably 700-1000 calories in the meal.
Now that I am working to change my life, my size, my health.. I have to force feed myself so my body doesn't shut down on the weight loss. & Actually right now I am struggling again with that.
At lunch yesterday I was so full I wanted to gag on my chicken.. I slowly chewed that tiny bit of chicken... and got it down..
Because of how I have lived my life thus far and the choices I have made in regards to food.. I can go all day almost and not be hungry.. I screwed up my metabolism..
So please... stop judging all us fat people who aren't hungry.0 -
I just did a little experiment. To maintain my current weight I would eat about 1720 calories per day (according to MFP).
I just checked the calories what would have been a typical day's worth of food for me when I was depressed: 4 cans of Coke, and one trip to McDonald's to eat a burger, 6-pack of nuggets, fries, and another Coke. That's half, to a third, as much food (by volume) as I eat these days, but it's 2,122 calories. That's how I ended up overweight while hardly eating anything. And the fact that I did that for 15 years is why it was hard to adjust to eating a larger volume of healthier food.0 -

There's a search function, there's an abundance of knowledge here. If someone chooses to ignore all that and do something stupid, shouldn't we respect their choice?0 -
The reality is that I could totally manage to feel full on 12-1300 calories if I ate entirely "clean" - esp while getting plenty of protein and fat (I low carb due to IR). I'm only 5'1", I'm female and in my 40s with a very sedentary desk job. I occasionally over-ate/mindlessly ate but I mainly got fat due to too many carbs (PCOS and IR) and eating junk or peanutbutter - I LOVED PB.
That being said, even though I am obese still, I set my goal to 1500 which is less than ,5/week loss and then I eat exercise calories on days I'm hungry and I dont worry about it if I have a cheat meal and eat over. I decided I like food and the taste of it so I'm better off to eat small amounts of things I love and fit them into that higher calorie goal rather than eliminate them to meet the 1200 goal (that would barely be 1 lb a week).
The posts that bother me are the ones who are eating at half their calculated TDEE or have pretty much eliminated fat from their diet (fat is essential) - and yes, there are some who are clearly "bragging". I'm not the least bit jealous- at the end of this trip, I want to be healthy and to be strong.... as such, I want to retain my LBM - and that right there is the biggest reason people advocate for higher goals- cause your body doesn't care if you aren't hungry - if you eat at too big a deficit, it will still cannibalize more LBM with fat than necessary0 -
It's possible for me to eat <1200 and be full IF I'm not exercising much. If I eat all steamed veg and lean meats like skinless, boneless chicken breast, tuna in packed in water, cod filets, etc, I can do it.
Part of it is that the food is bland enough, even with all the spices I can throw at it that I honestly just don't want food, period. Bland-ish food turns off my appetite pretty well.
The rest is that eating that much steamed veg causes me to bloat. If I'm gassy, I ain't hungry. I do occasionally have a desire for lots of steamed veg and this happens every time.
But, I've just started C25K in addition to the lifting I've been doing, and have discovered that running makes me ravenous. And these early runs are super easy for me - can't figure out why they make me so hungry, but seriously all I can think about is food on the days that I run. And my stomach cramps up from hunger, so it isn't just in my head! Ah, well, I'll just consider it a character building exercise until I'm ready to maintain or bulk again :devil:0 -

I find that cardio at or above my lactate threshold is likely to make me a lot hungrier than a slower aerobic pace. If you're going fast for the short running intervals, you might slow down a bit on them and see if that makes a difference. By the time you reach the point where your running intervals are 8-12 minutes, you'll need to ease off a bit anyway.
If you're running slowly, then obviously there's something different going on.0 -
You have to look at body type. I am 5'1, so on a regular day I am only able to eat 1450 calories total maintain my weight. I try to eat around 1200 calories a day because I still have a ways to go to reach my healthy goal weight. Sometimes I eat more or less due to exercise and what is going on that day. I can eat 1200 calories and be full if I eat high protein, moderate fats and high fiber foods. I also eat all natural and that really helps. It sounds crazy until you strictly do it. It also isn't an instant transition. It probably took me two or three months before my stomach was completely comfortable with the idea. If I do splurge and eat something I shouldn't have at the end of the day, you can bet I know it, even if it was a 1000 calorie dinner out I am still hungry when i get home, because I didn't eat the right amount of fiber and protein.
This is not something that is A. Easy or B. that you can half *kitten*. The most important thing is to eat healthy according to what your body needs for nourishment. Everyone's body is different, so you can't expect every body to have the same exact calorie limit.0 -
I eat 1200 on a non-exercise day, but generally I'm in the 1500 range since I workout most days. I eat every 2-3 hours, but smaller portions which I think helps a lot with keeping the calorie intake on track, but also not getting really hungry. It's really never been a problem, and the main reason I was overweight was because I didn't exercise as a kid and I ate huge portions of food and crammed myself full of cakes.
No point lying to myself, I know how I got where I was and I know how I'm getting where I'm going0 -
the thing is its not like you have to eat tons to meet calories. There are calorie dense foods. I'm not trying to be mean, its just like if you can only eat a little just pack it with avocado or nuts or cheese..0

Congrats, you have a healthy stomach. Some people don't. I have GERD, gastroparesis, IBS, and a history of ulcers & gastritis. I used to be able to fit a lot of food in. 5000 a day...I could eat huge bowls of vegetables, an entire watermelon, huge bowls of fiber one cereal, liters of diet soda and feel fine. Now I can fit 1 cup of food or liquid in at a time or I get extremely ill (as in go to the ER ill).0

If you are only able to eat half of what you should, why are you trying to choke down chicken breast. You should be eating lasagna with Italian sausage or any other delicious balanced meal you can imagine.0 -
See that's the issue. You say you don't know and are basically disregarding the importance of protein and dietary fat. They are both vital to overall health.
Here's the thing. I'm losing weight, which is the entire reason I even went on a diet in the first place. I'm satisfied with the rate I'm losing, and I'm satisfied with how I'm feeling while on this diet. I see no reason to stress over something I wouldn't have paid attention to in the first place.
Also, in case you were referring to me in the second half of your post, in what way am I being a special snowflake?0 -

People can see the fat and protein totals in their own diary. I'm not sure everyone needs schooling from the faction that believes their macros are the right macros. Their are many beliefs in this area.0 -

Yes but this is exactly the sort of thing newbies who are having the problem of feeling full on lots of high volume but low calorie foods don't know - so people post questions about what to do when they cant reach their goal and what you have said is useful advice - but it doesn't mean they were lying or humble bragging when they asked the question.
(I know you are not saying they are lying but others have)0
