Is a sports bra or even a bikini appropriate to wear as you run through your neighborhood? It's more than just the hubby we are talking here. Do you have a Homeowner Association that frowns upon barely clothed ladies or men running through the neighborhood? Do you have a hyper conservative mother in the neighborhood that will cause trouble cause you exposed your body to their young 8 year old boy as you jogged by their house? Just something more to think about. Carry on as you feel comfortable. :-)

First, I would never move somewhere with a dress code. This is the most ridiculous thing I've read all day.
Second, the FAT conservative mom (because in my mind she is a sad jealous overweight women) should be happy that her son his seeing people exercising and shouldn't waste her energy on some random women she doesn't know running in a sport bra.

Don't tell me this is offensive:

    fz5Oxun.jpg?1

In your mind the woman is a fat, sad, jealous person.... not sure exactly why.... in my mind she's just a caring mom who tries to monitor what her children see. (do you have children?) I'd watch porn anytime, but I wouldn't want a young child to see it. And although I myself might be intrigued to see a person like the one you posted running in a sports bra & thong if she wants, again, it wouldn't be my first choice for my child to see. People are using all kinds of extreme comparisons here, and although I don't think it really needed to get to that level, we're adults and we understand people are passionate about what they believe.

The pic you posted is in no way offensive.... but I have DDs.... I can assure you that me running in a sports bra is going to be a much different picture. Just saying.....
I also have DDs and it's not like my nipples are hanging out. If your breasts in a sports bra are showing enough skin to be offensive, you need to buy sports bras that, I don't know, actually fit.

The woman in the photo is not wearing a thong nor is she engaging in sexual activity (pornography). You are the one using extreme comparisons. The quoted post is using an actual example of what a woman running in just a sports bra looks like.

    Again, someone making assumptions.
    A) I'm not wearing a sports bra to run, my choice. I'd run naked if I wanted to, but not in front of children.
    B) Who decides what's offensive, you?? That was the WHOLE point about the mom/child/neighborhood story.
    C) Yes, I was using extreme examples... again, that was my point!! Apparently, you missed it all the way around.
    D) That pic is ONE example of what ONE woman running in a sports bra looks like....that in no way means that no woman running in a sports bra will not ever be found to be "offensive" by someone... maybe not me, maybe not you, but someone...

If you are rising your kids in such a way that they will think that seeing a stranger belly button is offensive I think you need to put aside a Therapy Fund. They will need it.

People need to go out in the real world. Running in a sport bra is innapropriate but watching music videos on MTV is okay... COME ON !!!

If you can point out where someone is getting hurt in this scenario, then I will concede your point.

Her husband is getting hurt, whether he's being silly or not, that is the reality. I don't know about you but if I can make my significant other happy I'll do anything I can within reason to do so, I'd classify wearing a tank top as 'within reason'.
I'm not talking about her husband, I specifically said that was between them. I was responding directly to people saying women running in such attire are disrespecting themselves and should "cover up."

Well then I guess our little spat is over because as a man I'll be the first to say I do NOT want women to stop running in sports bras (also the reason I can relate to her husband's thought process).
That's my point. Men look. They look when I wear a sundress, they look when I wear jeans and baggy shirts and they look when I'm dressed for a workout. Why should I be uncomfortable in my own clothing so that men won't look at me? If my SO has an issue with other men looking at me, he needs to examine why that is.

I have been in a relationship with someone who was overly jealous and it was hell. I have never cheated on anyone, ever. I am not going to run off with some guy or have sex with him or kiss him or anything inappropriate because he happened to notice me and maybe liked what he saw.

While I've been catcalled while out running, I have actually been asked out on actual dates while grocery shopping or pumping gas, while fully clothed. You can't live your life trying to hide yourself or your SO from everyone else.

    That thread is so funny.

I went out running in a sport bra last night (I even documented it with a new profile picture!)

No angry housewives called the neighborhood dresscode police after me.
No drivers killed pedestrians because they weren't looking where they were going.
I didn't get any catcalls, or weird looks.
    I didn't traumatize any 8yrs old boys.
No sketchy van slowed down beside me.
And my SO didn't object to the idea.

The night is dark and full of terrors.
Were you chased by a guy with a golf club?

I mean this thread has gone down to the silly road ... what next?

    haha

"First I'm gonna make sure half my boobs are in my profile pic that I display online where anyone can see.

Then I'm gonna tell women they need to cover up when they're in public."

So now running in a sports bra is the gateway drug to porn? Damn. I've got to start getting paid then.

If ever there was a thread that exemplified "Judgmental people", this is it.

Abe Lincoln once said, "You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of time.

As long as what you're wearing, or NOT wearing, won't get you arrested, then go for it and the hell with everybody else!

Now imagine the kind of attention you'd garner if you wore sexy lingerie and nothing else. It'd certainly be more than you're getting now. The logic you're using is pretty flawed at best.
Yes, you're right: Sports bra = Sexy lingerie.

I'm so sorry that *I* am using faulty logic. :flowerforyou:

Putting words in other people's mouths is the first sign of desperation :^)

Your logic: I can wear whatever I want, I will get some attention either way
My logic: Yes but you can reduce the amount of attention you get taking preventative measures

Your logic is akin to smoking cigarettes because "I'm going to die either way".

Apparently no one has had their coffee yet this morning and their comprehension skills have shut down.....
Not that I need to explain myself to anyone, but seeing as how this thread has just turned out to be so much darn fun, let's clarify:

I am not against running in a sports bra..... I'm as open-minded as it gets.... I love women and their bodies, you can all run naked as far as I'm concerned! I'll take a front row seat.

The ONLY thing I found "offensive" was the statement directed at the hypothetical "FAT, sad, jealous mom" who wanted to monitor what her children saw. My only point was that she could have been a THIN, confident, happy mom who still wanted to monitor what her children saw. That doesn't make her a bad person, just a concerned parent. That's all.

Now.... where is my bikini top? I need a new profile pic.....

FL runner here too = a shirt gets sweaty and wet and is much more cooling than bareback

But in the winter months I run bareback

my girly will run in a sports bra during the week when we run at sunrise, but on Saturdays we sleep in, and she will wear a shirt to not get burned.

Unless you are running in a mall, I doubt anyone is paying as much attention to you as you or your man would like to think

    just sayin

Well then I very much need to apologize to you. I even tried to check closely and I was still wrong. It's hard, I wish MFP would change the code so quotes had screennames attached to them (it's really a simple thing).

My mistake, I am very sorry.

    No problem what-so-ever. :flowerforyou:
I've seen several of your posts. You always take up for women, of any size, and I generally agree with your opinions on things.... I don't post a lot, only because it's like text, and can be misconstrued, as we all see.

    It's really up to you.

I'm in Florida so not only is it HOT but it's also humid. Some runs feel more like swimming the air is so thick!

I usually wear a Danskin running tank from Wal-Mart- super cheap and keeps me covered enough to feel comfortable without being too restricted.
