Gonna add ELECTION - so realistic! (Matthew Broderick, Reese Witherspoon)

Also on that note, I agree with the suggestions of Welcome to the Dollhouse and KIDS.

A lot of you may think this is a strange one to list but "The Searchers" with John Wayne is a great and highly under rated movie. It's his best serious performance ever and the supporting actors are great. The unspoken backstory that's throughout the movie really makes it. YMMV

I couldn't agree with you more! I hated Westerns until I watched The Searchers!

The Court Jester with Danny Kaye... Angela Lansbury was the young beautiful princess... I still laugh histarically everytime I see it... Unfortunately, it's hard to find and I only have an old VHS copy that is almost beyond ability to watch.
I concur. You should watch it like. . THAT *snaps fingers*

    Yea, verily, yea!

THEM! is amazing - early scifi thriller that i still love to watch.

Get Real - coming-of-age gay flick that has some really deep undertones

Broken Hearts Club - gay romcom that was the first of its kind.

Mars Attacks - spoof on all of the early scifi movies with pretty much every name in Hollywood showing up in it

Oh sheesh, almost non of these are available ;( I loved Mars Attacks! Did manage to add Broken Hearts CLub though :)

"The Fall" (2006) is my favorite film of all time. It was produced by Spike Jones and David Fincher but was directed by Tarsem Singh (The Cell, Immortals). This movie changed my life and I have yet to find any other film like it.

Well with a review like that I had to add it! Lol

Not obscure, but I can watch Shawshank Redemption any time it's on tv, I've been where they filmed several times for tours.

Any Tim Burton movie, especially with Johnny Depp.

    Cosmopolis, although it confuses me.

And since someone mentioned Jim Jarmusch, his latest movie Only Lovers Left Alive is my current favorite

Never heard of him before but that photo is rather riveting. Love him on sight!

He's a total weirdo and his films are bizarre, so I pretty much just love him!

    The Dark Crystal

Oh and The Fall was visually stunning... much of my honeymoon was to go visit places in India where that was filmed. It's beautiful.

I have also slowly been making my way through most of the big films lists over the years (1001, AFI, TIME, etc). I have really been into Asian cinema the past couple of years and watched 250+ movies (mostly Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and Thai), here's a link to a list of my favorites: http://mydramalist.com/list/D45wqoLX

That's awesome! I just added a bunch off that list! I had a few already that were on there. :)

    The Station Agent

    The Way

    Faith, Fraud, and Minimum Wage

    Tyrannosaur

Hooray for The Station Agent! Love that film.

Also, for German films Lives of Others is wonderful. Though it should already be on your list.

I didn't know we were doing foreign language or it would have been on there!. Right along with all three of the Trois Couleurs films. And many others.

Can I add another one that probably no one has even heard of? Donny Deckchair. I loved that film.
