House Sitter Nightmare, Please Help

Go easy on her. I think she like likes you. Some people have trouble expressing their feelings properly!0
-
maybe she was in cahoots with your cat.
you mean CAThoots?
I'm glad my dilemma is so funny to you.0 -
What I would do:
Get the address of where she works.
Sign up for every free catalog, samples, news letter, etc. that you can find online (hint: sign up with YOUR email address but HER WORK mailing address. That way, when they want confirmation, you can confirm.)
Then...
Address it to her name, DBA (does business as) some terrible company name...
for example:
Lisa Smith, DBA Merkins Unlimited
or
Lisa Smith, DBA Vagazzle Your Granny, Inc.
or even different "business names" for each mailing.
That way, you turn that frown upside down!

Most of us are here for you OP. We will not let you go through this injustice alone!0 -
I now realize that I am at fault for not being more specific with my instructions. I expected her to come in, feed the cat, maybe watch a little tv and go home. I honestly didn't expect her to come in, cook a steak, jump on the furniture and do god knows what in the bed.
I'm just so upset I don't know if I can forgive her. The mature adult in me knows I need to talk to her, but I'm just so bad at confrontation.
Well that steak was in the refrigerator and on the verge of going bad... I didn't think you would want your house smelling of rancid meat now do you? And I just invited my boyfriend over so that people wouldn't think it was left empty... I can't help it that we just couldn't help ourselves after that delicious bottle of wine you had stashed... though it was a little stale... but you know, can't be choosy at that point.
BAHAHAHA...

Now this I would do. :laugh:0 -

I was robbed by my neighbor who we asked to watch the house.
My other friend never bothered to show up.
I ONLY pay for someone whose been vetted- carries insurance and provides paper work for us both.
its SO much easier to meet- interview and arrange- it's professional- the rules are clear- and no hurt feelings. They do their job- then they leave. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Best decision ever.
Address her- send her an email if you really can't face her. But never ask her to house sit again. And if you do have a friend- be clear about what you expect. I have house sitted before- and if I was there STAYING- I ate the food- slept and watched TV (obviously) otherwise- I came in- fed- and left- no reason to hang out- feeding cats and cleaning litter takes 10 minutes- no reason to snack- watch TV- hang out or anything else. I was just trying to help you out and this is the thanks I get!!! You still haven't paid me for my time either.0 -
If this story is true, you can bet she went through all of your stuff. All of it.
Yeah I would check to make sure things aren't missing.0 -
Wow
No advice.
Just wondering if this is a joke to everybody because it is posted in Chit-chat, fun and games?
No seriousness allowed here?0 -
Ah, come on -- "CAThoots" was cute. And made me smile!0

I didn't steal nothing!!!0 -
I was feeling sorry for you, then I thought
"why can't you just set out multiple litter boxes, a couple gallons of water and enough catfood for 2 weeks like a normal cat owner?"0 -

Yeah, well where did you get that extra large diaphragm?0 -
I don't trust anyone to care for my cats, which is why I never leave on vacation.0

Kind of harsh, but I don't like cats, so I'll allow it. What are we talking about here? 2x4? 4x4? Custom made oak paddle?0 -

I read this as beard, and really enjoyed the visual.0 -

And the trench coat? The trench coat is suspicious.0 -

I thought they meant WATER-board the cat. I was all like....IN!!!0 -
I need some advice. This past weekend the SO and I took a weekend away and asked a friend to come by and feed the cat. When I got home I was shocked to see what had transpired. First she broke the lock on the door. Apparently she was having some difficulty with the key and broke the key off in the lock. We started to call a locksmith but found it more cost efficient to buy a new lock at the hardware store since we couldn’t just rekey it.
She also broke one of the dining room chairs and just welcomed herself to the food in both the freezer and the pantry. I guess I would be okay with maybe a little but she ransacked the joint and didn’t even do the dishes. Also I am sure that she slept in the guest bed (something we didn’t discuss) because it was slept in and not made up.
I felt like we had a decent relationship prior to this, but I’m feeling very violated. I’m wondering if I should discuss this with her? I don’t want there to be weirdness cause she lives right next door. But now I don’t want her in my house. It’s just horrible cause I invited this person in and she just made herself at home. I asked her to feed my pet, not move in for the weekend.
Any advice would be welcome.
I would not discuss it with her.
I would let it go & next time, hire a professional pet sitter to come in once daily to feed kitty & clean box.
Done.

Why not just take them with? Duh.0 -
I'd be pissed! I bet I can top this story. My neighbor and his gf who were housesitting and dogsitting for us 11 years ago killed my puppy. Welll, let's just say my puppy was on death's door and they didn't do a damn thing.
They lied and said that he was perfectly fine. I got home and found him on the floor, skinny as a skeleton, and barely alive. He was rushed to the vet's and didn't make it. Sorry for hijacking your thread but I have to REALLY trust the next person to take care of my pets.0 -

That's even better! I have much to learn.0 -

Because I can only drive to vacation spots and they don't like being in cars, DUH.0 -

I admire your restraint. I would have killed the neighbor and his gf.0 -

That's the room mate thread... don't get confused!0 -

Oh.
I've been sitting here for a few minutes thinking up relevant cat puns to use in this CCF&G thread...
...but never mind.
I certainly don't want any hurt felines over it.

No you just broke in, ate all the food, broke the furniture and slept in my bed.
Excuse me for being a little miffed at the disrespect.
And you owe me $68.27 for the lock.0
