Do you say Pop or Soda?
    Hoagies or Subs?
    Lightening bugs or fireflies?

I'm from Ohio but now in PA and I say Pop, subs, and lightening bugs.

Tell me what you say and where you are from and add in new words too!

Soda now but I grew up saying pop.

Hoagies if I make my own but a sub if I get it from subway (when in Rome).

    Fireflies

    Colorado.

    Add in:

    We call it legal now.

i grew up in Newfoundland, Canada:

Pepsi and people would ask what kind?
    Sub
Firefly i guess. We didn't have them in Newfoundland

    Grocery carts
    Cap or hat for toque
    Clip for barrette
Bar for chocolate bar (or candy bar as Americans say)
dinner or lunch was at mid day and supper in the evening
    chips for french fries
    chesterfield not sofa
bonnet of the car - not the hood

    Fizzy drinks
I had to google hoagie... no idea what the eff it was - baguette
    Firefly

    London, UK.

    ^^ this :) ^^

I thought baguette was the name for the type of bread not the whole sandwich...

My aunt used to say davenport instead of sofa or couch.

I use sofa/couch ... firefly/lightning bug interchangeably. We say hoagie or sometimes hero. Soda....99% of the time. Northeast PA.

Here in Maine we just say lobstah! Oh and my grandparents' generation said "sody" for soda pop; davenport for couch; and piazza for porch. Actually, we also say: soda, lightening bugs and subs, although we used to say Italian sandwich. We also like to say "wicked good"; "up the rud a piece"; and we just love a good whoopie pie!

--- Pop or soda? - I usually order by brand name, and ask for cola if I don't know if they serve Pepsi or Coke. Sometimes I go crazy and say "soda pop"
--- I'll order a sub at place that don't back the sandwiches, and a grinder if it is baked (like at a pizza place)
    --- Lightning Bug

Do you say Pop or Soda?
I go back and forth. I grew up in NY and said soda, moved to Wa and say pop most of the time
    Hoagies or Subs?
another change in NY we said Sub or submarine sandwich. I now say hoagie
    Lightening bugs or fireflies?
I haven't seen a lightning bug since I moved to Seattle. but we know what they are and people here call them firefly's.

Here is one for ya. dragonfly's are called 'diamond needles' in NY, at least back in 1979 when I lived there !
