Lightening bugs or fireflies?
I haven't seen a lightning bug since I moved to Seattle. but we know what they are and people here call them firefly's.
Here is one for ya. dragonfly's are called 'diamond needles' in NY, at least back in 1979 when I lived there !0 -
Philly born & bred. Soda, Hoagies are hoagies, everything else is sandwiches. Lightning bugs. It's Iggles, not Eagles. Go Birds!0

I am trom Florida and it is soda, subs but I must add there is a clear difference between a firefly and lightning bug. Two different insects. One has a glowing abdomen and one has two false glowing eyes.0

Funny you should mention the Iggle thing. We have a chain of grocery stores called Giant Eagle based out of pittsburgh but down there everyone calls it Giant Iggle lol. Though they did have video stores called Iggle Video in them until the mid 2000s.0 -
I grew up in CA, but am now in OR.
Soda, for clear/citrus/seltzer. or Cola, if I mean "brown pop"
(we don't have fireflies, but fireflies)
Hoagies (if you mean the meat/cheese/oil & vinegar sandwiches), but subs if you mean from Subway.
We have a sofa.
And "traffic circles." (It's not a roundabout. It's a snarl waiting to happen, people.)0 -
GA girl everything is a coke, subs, lightening bugs
Same here in NC.0 -
Soft drink
Roll or sandwich

I'm Australian0 -
Australian here:
Soft Drink
Salad Roll?! Sub if from Subway.
We don't have them, but I guess I'd call them fireflies. closest thing we have here in Tasmania are glow worms (that obviously don't fly).0 -
Soda

Firefly
I live in Oklahoma, but grew up in Germany, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.0 -
Where I live now in New Zealand:
Fizzy Drink
Roll
We don't have fireflies here (sniff, sniff)
Where I grew up in Oklahoma/Texas, it was:
Pop (or "Coke")
Submarine Sandwich
Firefly or Lightning Bug0 -
Originally from Baltimore, MD... soda, subs and lightening bugs. The funniest thing was when I lived in San Diego years ago and was working as a vet tech at an animal hospital. Another tech was leaving for the day and had a dead car battery so I had to call the main office to let them know we would be outside for a bit since we were the only two there at the time. I told them I was going outside to give her a "hot shot". Since they only knew it as a jump start (which I had never heard of before) they thought I was trying to give her a needle.0

If you say pop....you are just wrong!
Don't hate lol0 -
Canada here (BC): soda (most here don't know what I'm talking about, picked this up in California), sub, firefly, couch and don't forget sneekers, tennis shoes or runners - I say runners.....0

I'm from Massachusetts.
I say soda. Never ever pop.
Subs, for the most part. Sometimes I hear bomb/grinder
Fireflies!
Also this reminds me of the dialect quiz/map.

Here in Montana ... It is pop, subs. We don't have any fireflies!! So when we see them, it's usually "cool"!0
-
I'm from North Carolina and I say soda, subs, and lightning bugs.
I don't know if that is true NC/southern dialect though, my dad was from Baltimore and my mom was from outside of Pittsburgh so I don't think I speak like "real" southern people, lol0 -
