Unless you're "a nationally certified trainer, fitness specialist, and working assistant to a doctor and nutritionist" and believe people who eat "junk" food are delusional drug addicts, then yes. Since I'm neither, time to post it up with gifs.

Yet, I find it humorous to say the least. :laugh: I don't plan on going anywhere, and ready to actually discuss the topic at hand without silly naysayers, negative nancy's, and sensitive sally's changing the subject. So anyway... back to the topic at hand. I would love to hear about fad diets/trends anyone has tried or had someone approach them with. I hate to name brands as to not bash anyones views... but there have been several I have been approached with including skinny wraps, vitamins, energy drinks, shakes, etc. Anyone else?:smooched:
You're not being bullied. And if you actually read the forums, you would see plenty of posts about shakes, pills, wraps, and other quick weight loss schemes that people have already been approached about or are trying to sell. The response from the community, including the people here who are supposedly bullying you, is that those products are a waste of money and do not work. Followed by information about how the person can achieve their goals using a calorie deficit, exercise, and making sure they get proper nutrition using whatever foods or style of eating works best for them. Your post telling people not to use them isn't exactly revolutionary information around here.
You might be better off taking a step back and getting to know the community. Saying you're a personal trainer doesn't give you any credibility here, as there have been plenty of PTs here who clearly don't know what they are talking about, or are just trying to scam people and drum up business. And it also helps to get to know some of the posters and their agendas before deciding that they know what they are talking about - the person who you claimed "has some sense" made a post earlier in the thread claiming that people on MFP frequently tell others that they have to eat junk food in order to lose weight.0 -

Depends on how you, personally, define "clean" versus how you define junk.
I got the way I am from over eating. Most of the stuff I overate on was what the vast majority here call "clean" (albeit unbalanced) - meat, veggies, fruit, etc. I don't eat a lot of salty treats like chips and I don't eat a lot of candy - never have. It was more that my meals were probably twice the size they should have been, over a long period of time. And no, I'm not saying I was always quote unquote perfect on my food choices either, but the main reason why I'm here is due to general overindulging. The key to my personal journey is learning moderation and appropriate serving sizes, not learning what to eat.0 -

We will have to agree to disagree on the bullying. I don't care about it hence why I haven't left yet, but some of the snobbish attacks were unwarranted. Someone could easily say that the term is confusing to many and gave their explanation and that would be that. I understand now that it is a sensitive word. I will be more careful with it in the future... but the way some people handled it was ridiculous.

And that stinks to hear trainers have been on here before trying to get business but that is not my intent. I highly doubt most people on here live where I do... so unless I meet you face to face... I don't think anyone has to worry. Not to mention I never go out to get clients, luckily they come to me from the community word of mouth. (Which is good because I'm not great at the whole marketing and self promotion thing anyway) :laugh:
As far as stepping back and reading the community etc. Good idea, I will do that. All in all, this is a message board for ALL members of MyFitnessPal. It is for sharing tips, advice, and having a good time while learning about living a healthy lifestyle. It is not thaaaat serious that we need so much "government" so to say. I am 100% sure there have been posts about the fads I speak of, but I checked recently and did not see any pertaining specifically to these scams. So maybe it is old news for you... but for others it might not be.
Also... I don't understand why if people don't care what the post is about... why they need to comment on it. Yes to join a debate and give solid opinions, I understand that. However... if it is something not pertaining to you (Not directed towards you, I am saying in general) why people can't just keep scrolling. I saw a post about Atkins Diet and I know personally I'm against it... so I scrolled past. I don't need to go on there and start bashing someone for their take on it.0 -

To touch on your last point, the reason people speak up instead of scrolling by is that the forums are completely public. You don't even need to have an account here to read them. That means that there lots and lots of people out there reading the boards, and some of them are young teens, people with eating disorders, body dysmorphia issues, and those who are willing to put their health in jeopardy if it means losing a few pounds. People, especially those who have been around for awhile, will speak up and disagree in hopes of lessening the spread of misinformation about weight loss, which is kind of what happened here, in hopes that someone out there who is reading it may avoid doing something silly or unnecessary to lose weight.0 -

I'm pretty sure the slam on photoless posters was meant to include me, so not sure that would help. (I actually do have another photo in my open profile, but it's just a headshot, so doesn't show the abs or cheesy scene shot or whatever is supposed to be necessary to have an opinion according to the poster with the wine who made the comment and OP.)
That said, I vote for photo of your cat. Cats are great. Cat photos are cute.
Anyway, I'm not sure what having a photo or lots of prior posts has to do with the merits of your opinions, if they are well-expressed and well-thought-out! So I'm happy to read them, whatever they may be.

I am definitely up for interesting conversation. Most of this topic unfortunately changed into something it wasn't intended for. Have you ever been approached about the current or new upcoming fads such as the wraps? Energy Drinks? Shakes etc?
Nope. I have been approached on the street to talk about my hair, the environment, and aid to children, though, as well as just asked for money. And I get emails from local and national politicians and their fundraising groups, as well as people who want to know if I want my penis enlarged (I do not), as well as various other such things constantly.
So how do I get on the list for upcoming weightloss fads? I want to be in the know!
I have to admit that on the whole I tend to think that if you get taken in by something improbable or unbelievable, that's on you.0 -

Clean eating is a fad and until you say something a long the lines of this
"you guys I stand corrected, I should not have used the phrase "clean eating" as a thing to do to lose weight while my post was about scams and fads to avoid that are all over the weight loss industry because "clean eating" is the new "buzz word" fad weight loss gimmick.
What I did was create an oxymoron of a post with that phrase and if I could go back and edit it with" nutrient dense" or "follow the 80/20 rule" I would but now I can't because I was too busy debating that I was right to use that word and calling you all naysayers and laughing at you and dropping the bully bomb, my bad"

I was on facebook and I have various friends on there all selling their different products making claims that with their product weight will just fall off. I have at least 6 different product companies being promoted by different friends/acquaintances. Some even say they shouldn't exercise etc. They promote winning cars by selling the products to try and get more networking marketers under their belt so they get more $$$.
I have also seen other friends who got sucked into the scams. I do agree with you that more often than not... it is their own fault. But I gotta give credit where it is due. I went to one of the "parties" hosted and their marketing was on POINT! It almost made me want to buy until I did my research and realized the product was garbage in my opinion. Then all of these friends/acquaintances bug the heck out of me to try their products because they look at me as a money symbol for them. They would expect me to sell to all of my clients. Then that person would make $$$ on ALL of us. I'm all for people making money... but not by scamming others.

I probably won't post much anymore because I have come to see that the forums aren't generally helpful for me and are excessively judgey. If you want to call that a rage quit, then have at it.

Yes I read that part and that was the part that made me post what I did...being disagreed with repeated by the majority <> bullying and you wouldn't have been disagreed with if 6 pages ago you would have just "GOT IT" because you didn't "READ" what we were saying.
YOu were so intent on being right you missed the forest for the trees and now unfortuanately because you took 6 pages to acknowledge that it is a FAD instead of doing research prior to posting it period...most of what you will post in the future will be scoffed at by those here who saw this and see what you are about.

Same answer, and that's one of the problems with the term.
It seems like when this topic comes up people often try to explain that they don't mean ALL processed foods, but only the BAD processed foods, like twinkies or soda or Marie Callendar pot pies and McDonalds or frozen egg rolls or some such. Well, I gave up fast food (other than on road trips) years ago, non-diet soda back in high school, and never ate that other stuff because I'm one of those obnoxious food snobs. I got fat eating high quality restaurant food, various kinds of home cooking, and, sure, too many desserts (I fell back into some bad habits of misusing desserts for comfort/stress reasons for a while after I quit drinking--I was able to be pretty in shape in appearance when drinking lots of empty calories in an incredibly unhealthy way, oddly enough). But even my desserts were generally made with high quality ingredients. Oh, I guess I also ate bagels for breakfast, which was a poor set up for the day, but not inherently junk food. None of this made me less fat or unhealthy than people who happened to eat whatever "processed" foods are meant, and similarly there are plenty of people who have healthy weights who eat lots of that stuff.
On the whole, I didn't eat differently in kind when I gained weight quite quickly than I had when I was 120-125. Instead, I stopped working out, and I ate a lot more and without moderation. Basically stupid stuff that wasn't that hard to stop. I agree that it's great to eat largely whole foods, to cook, to eat lots of vegetables, etc. I do it myself (and always have, fat or not) and shifted back to more home cooking (through better planning) as part of my weight loss plan. But the idea that one only gets fat if one doesn't cook or eats poor quality ingredients or eats "processed" foods (many of which ARE nutritionally dense) is simply inaccurate.0 -
I found that trying to eat clean was extremely helpful in losing weight. While I was counting calories and keeping an eye on the macros it was the concept of eating clean that help me make the best choices when shopping and cooking. Avoiding processed foods, especially snack foods that were fried or baked meant I got the nutrition I needed without extra calories. I did not eat 'diet' foods, shakes or meal replacements. I bought and cooked vegetables and lean meats, snacked on fruits and nuts and avoided preservatives and saturated fats. I lost weight because of CICO but eating cleaner helped me do it. Yes, you can eat pizza and Doritos and lose weight but justifying that type of eating to others won't help them be successful here on MFP. Encouraging them to be better informed about nutrition and meal planning will. Thank you, OP.0

I am NOT worried about being "Scoffed at by those who saw this and see what you are about" I have legitimate tips and advice regarding fitness and health. I have made other comments on other posts and have had no negativity yet (Though I'm sure some of you are jumping at the chance :laugh: ). As I stated in a previous post. I had NO IDEA that "clean" was a buzzword. I have never heard that before until I came on here. That is the point I was trying to make. It is a simple word that SOME people use to generally mean healthy food. The word "healthy" can ALSO have multiple meanings since healthy means different things to different people. It's just a simple word to use to describe natural foods. It does NOT mean that all unnatural foods are dirty or unhealthy. Thank you for reading the post the way it was meant and not reading into something I never intended to. Unfortunately, reading things on the internet can easily be misconstrued and for that I do not blame others for disagreeing with that term. I do however disagree with those who got rude about it though to try and make a point... when we were pretty much saying the same thing. Back to what OP wants to talk about instead of what she said, no I have not been approached by "trainers" to try/buy their magical drinks and/or weight loss supplements. Must see the "bully" in me I guess.0 -

And with your profile (yes I like to glance at who I am speaking/debating/conversing with) I would think you of all people wouldn't be the rude sarcastic type. Guess I was wrong. But anyway... most trainers would not sell the products I was referring too... It is usually people who are not in the fitness or health industry trying to make a buck and also want to feel good about helping others. (Unfortunately, many don't realize that the products are scams even though they sound amazing). Hope your day gets a little bit brighter. This is all in fun... not meant to be so serious.0 -

I am NOT worried about being "Scoffed at by those who saw this and see what you are about" I have legitimate tips and advice regarding fitness and health. I have made other comments on other posts and have had no negativity yet (Though I'm sure some of you are jumping at the chance :laugh: ). As I stated in a previous post. I had NO IDEA that "clean" was a buzzword. I have never heard that before until I came on here. I also stated above that I won't use it and be more careful which terms I use to make a point (even if that was NOT the point in the first place).

As for your others posts do you mean on your "other" profile because on this profile you have 2 posts...this one you started and one you commented on about how people lose weight differently in which you didn't spout nonsense.That is the point I was trying to make. It is a simple word that SOME people use to generally mean healthy food. The word "healthy" can ALSO have multiple meanings since healthy means different things to different people. It's just a simple word to use to describe natural foods. It does NOT mean that all unnatural foods are dirty or unhealthy. Unfortunately, reading things on the internet can easily be misconstrued and for that I do not blame others for disagreeing with that term. As for this...then that's the point you should have made...I read the words and take them for their meaning in context. We can't read minds and know what you "intended" we can only go by what is typed out and that doesn't mean it was misconstrued...

There is no clean or dirty, no natural or unnatural food...it's all fuel and can be used for various things. Pizza is a good fuel, lean chicken breast is good fuel, heck a donut is good fuel and the fiber1 peanut butter brownie I am about to eat is good fuel...
So since persistence is key get this...clean eating and exercise is not the key to weight loss, eating in a calorie deficit is, eating nutrient dense foods and exercise is for health and you can still be fat eating "clean" and "exercising" if you are not in a calorie deficit0 -

So please do not jump my throat for giving examples, but since some of you think I'm making it up and talking out of my rear... I listed a few examples. Whether you like them or not is up to you... just warning that most are scams. That is all.0 -

Of course I've heard of them. Spend more than a few days in the MFP forums and you'll hear about them. I was addressing this paragraph of yours:I was on facebook and I have various friends on there all selling their different products making claims that with their product weight will just fall off. I have at least 6 different product companies being promoted by different friends/acquaintances. Some even say they shouldn't exercise etc. They promote winning cars by selling the products to try and get more networking marketers under their belt so they get more $$$.
I agree, these MLM products are not necessary. Spend some time in the MFP forums and you'll see that those who have spoken out most loudly against part of your post agreeing strongly with this position.

Well... sorry but I am going to completely disagree with you. I agree that I should have been more cautious with the chosen word and described myself better. So in that aspect you are right. But if you honestly tell me that health and losing weight is ONLY about being in a calorie deficit and you basically stated that ALL calories are created equal then I COMPLETELY utterly disagree. That is like telling people they can eat 2 donuts a day but since they are under their calorie amount they will lose weight. :noway: Anorexics lose weight because they obviously are in a calorie deficit. Does that make them healthy? Healthy does NOT always mean being in a calorie deficit. And YES a calorie is a calorie and to lose weight one must burn 3500. I get it. But some calories are "empty" and pose no nutritional value to help the cells in your body burn fat, metabolize food, and maintain muscle. Do you honestly believe that a slice of pizza is as healthy as a chicken breast? Is pizza a demon? NO... and people should be able to ENJOY pizza. But if your sake of argument is that to be healthy and lose weight, a person only has to eat less calories... then you are way off base.0 -

I have seen absolutely zero people suggest or imply that you're making it all up. Maybe you could point me towards the comments you are taking this way?
We've all heard about these products. They're asked about or promoted on these boards every day. The sales pitches are removed because they're against the TOS and those who are asking about them are given alternate advice and told to look elsewhere for their weight loss. Just because many of us have not been personally approached to buy them doesn't mean we're unaware of their existence.0 -
