Also, depending on the pizza, a slice could actually be healthier than the chicken breast.

Also true depending on overall consumption. If our hypothetical person has met their protein target and is below an optimal level of fat and/or low on total calories, then the slice of pizza instead of a chicken breast is almost certainly optimal regardless of the type of pizza.

:noway: That was not the post I was referring to... it was before that. But thank you for the lecture. :drinker:

And again... this is a message board and I take it as such. I am NOT worried about being "Scoffed at by those who saw this and see what you are about" I have legitimate tips and advice regarding fitness and health. I have made other comments on other posts and have had no negativity yet (Though I'm sure some of you are jumping at the chance  ). As I stated in a previous post. I had NO IDEA that "clean" was a buzzword. I have never heard that before until I came on here. I also stated above that I won't use it and be more careful which terms I use to make a point (even if that was NOT the point in the first place).

Your welcome, I typically pull out my mom voice when running into people who are acting like teenagers who have read the book of all...can't help it I have one at home.

As for your others posts do you mean on your "other" profile because on this profile you have 2 posts...this one you started and one you commented on about how people lose weight differently in which you didn't spout nonsense.
That is the point I was trying to make. It is a simple word that SOME people use to generally mean healthy food. The word "healthy" can ALSO have multiple meanings since healthy means different things to different people. It's just a simple word to use to describe natural foods. It does NOT mean that all unnatural foods are dirty or unhealthy. Thank you for reading the post the way it was meant and not reading into something I never intended to. Unfortunately, reading things on the internet can easily be misconstrued and for that I do not blame others for disagreeing with that term. I do however disagree with those who got rude about it though to try and make a point... when we were pretty much saying the same thing. Once I explained that I did not mean it as a 100% thing, I would have thought they would back off. Persistence is key I guess. Thanks for your reply!

As for this...then that's the point you should have made...I read the words and take them for their meaning in context. We can't read minds and know what you "intended" we can only go by what is typed out and that doesn't mean it was misconstrued...

because even now you are spouting about "eating clean" even if it's 80% of the time which is well...what you just aren't getting.

There is no clean or dirty, no natural or unnatural food...it's all fuel and can be used for various things. Pizza is a good fuel, lean chicken breast is good fuel, heck a donut is good fuel and the fiber1 peanut butter brownie I am about to eat is good fuel...

So since persistence is key get this...clean eating and exercise is not the key to weight loss, eating in a calorie deficit is, eating nutrient dense foods and exercise is for health and you can still be fat eating "clean" and "exercising" if you are not in a calorie deficit

Well... sorry but I am going to completely disagree with you. I agree that I should have been more cautious with the chosen word and described myself better. So in that aspect you are right.

But if you honestly tell me that health and losing weight is ONLY about being in a calorie deficit and you basically stated that ALL calories are created equal then I COMPLETELY utterly disagree.

That is like telling people they can eat 2 donuts a day but since they are under their calorie amount they will lose weight. :noway:

Anorexics lose weight because they obviously are in a calorie deficit. Does that make them healthy? Healthy does NOT always mean being in a calorie deficit. And YES a calorie is a calorie and to lose weight one must burn 3500. I get it. But some calories are "empty" and pose no nutritional value to help the cells in your body burn fat, metabolize food, and maintain muscle.

Do you honestly believe that a slice of pizza is as healthy as a chicken breast? Is pizza a demon? NO... and people should be able to ENJOY pizza. But if your sake of argument is that to be healthy and lose weight, a person only has to eat less calories... then you are way off base.

Actually what I said was this
...clean eating and exercise is not the key to weight loss, eating in a calorie deficit is, eating nutrient dense foods and exercise is for health and you can still be fat eating "clean" and "exercising" if you are not in a calorie deficit

And yes I will tell people if they are in a deficit and have room for two donuts have at and yes they will lose weight...I eat and have eaten a whole chocolate bar every night since god knows how long and managed to lose 50+lbs...why because I was in a deficit.

And yes all calories are created equal as they are a unit of energy

Health<>weight loss...that's where you are confused

And yes I believe pizza is as good as lean chicken..maybe more so as it has more macros than chicken and hits lots of micros...esp if it's delux with veggies and cheese and meats.

And to reiterate...to lose weight you need a calorie deficit...for health you watch macros and exercise...the two are not always together and don't have to be...and sometimes they are together...

but thanks this was an enlighten post...it is abuntly clear now why you advocate clean eating.

OP, it sounds like maybe you need better facebook friends...

...or at least be more discerning as to who you befriend.

And this (And some other comments) is why I made the post in the first place. Some people blasted me because they said "Everyonnneee knows about the scams/schemes." Some people do, and some don't. I really really hate using brand names because I know some people will jump on me about name bashing and making claims for or against it etc. But I don't even care anymore... Have none of you heard about...

    Body by Vi?
    Vemma/Verve?
    It Works Wraps and Pills?
    Wake Up Now?
    Advocare?
    Beachbody?

Etc? That is just naming a FEW of the brands I get asked about on a weekly sometimes daily basis. I have plenty of friends, aquaintances etc that sell these and make false claims. I'm surprised some of you are not aware. that is a GOOD thing though! Stay away lol. I AM NOT SAYING THESE PRODUCTS ARE ALL AWFUL FOR YOU! (Some are actually fine... but the money spent on them could go towards something even better that costs a lot less.. ex: Multivitamin instead of specific energy drink etc). So please do not jump my throat for giving examples, but since some of you think I'm making it up and talking out of my rear... I listed a few examples. Whether you like them or not is up to you... just warning that most are scams. That is all.

I'm not saying you are lying but I am really quite surprised by all the people you have messaging you to say they are glad you posted this topic. I stand by that the people that would fall for these scams are the same people that wouldn't take the time to take in your PSA. Does it make you feel better now that you have warned us all? If it makes you feel better then your post was a success for you regardless if anyone listens to you and doesn't buy any of these because of your warning.

I feel like it is last night all over again. She really doesn't get it at all.

I have to ask though since this thread is apparently going to go on forever....

To the OP, what would be the harm to me eating 2 donuts a day (let's say 800 calories) if all my nutritional needs are met throughout the day?

I know several people with varying levels of education in personal training, nutrition and/or weight loss certs who believe a calorie isn't a calorie, you have to 'eat clean'. Anymore I just assume they teach that. Maybe to keep the programs going.
  • I can't even quote just one person... since I want to hit on topics from a few (If this response doesn't correlate with something you wrote... then it wasn't directed at you)

Do you really listen/read what some of you are writing? One of you went on to say "Yeah pizza is better than chicken" and "Ohhh well it can be if its made with this and this" PEOPLE... its a basic comparison of typical pizza and typical chicken. We could literally argue about EVERYTHING if you go that route. I mean really??? YES OBVIOUSLY someone can make their own version of healthy pizza... but I'm saying for purpose of message boards... IN GENERAL CHICKEN IS HEALTHIER THAN PIZZA! oh my goodness LOL I'm literally shocked right now how some of you are SO QUICK to try and prove me wrong that you literally are fighting every point I make- when you know very well that if you ask just about ANYONE they would agree.

Read ANY fitness magazine, go to ANY nutritional conference, talk to most any fitness experts and doctors... and guess what... you will hear the world "Clean " and you will hear the word "Diet, and healthy" and you will hear "Cheat meals" and "Avoid processed foods". Stop acting like I created a new language. These are common words NOW... SOME of you made valid points that the word I used can confuse people. And for that... I agree! I even said I wouldn't use it so that it isn't a concern anymore.

But now... its getting ridiculous. And to the person who said "We know about these products." Well... sorry, I didn't realize that YOU are everyone. Seeing that I got messages from several people who did actually say they liked my post and are glad I posted it makes me satisfied. Like I said... if I could help ONE person, then I have no regrets with this whole post. I enjoy the debate and conversation... with the exception of rude people and those who just want to fight EVERY single thing.

Do you not realize that ANYTHING can be debated if we twist things around? If someone said "Eating healthy is important for weight loss success" Someone on here I'm sure will jump the gun and say "Noooo you can eat pizza, and whats wrong with donuts" etc etc. GO AHEAD Eat your pizza, eat your donuts. I don't care lol. I do know what I'm talking about and VERY confident in my skills. So whether you think so or not has no affect on me. I do enjoy conversing with some of you and getting opinions, but slamming me for saying that calories are not all equal is silly and I will not listen. AS I MENTIONED... calories are equal in terms of energy and that to burn 1 lb of fat... a person needs to burn 3500 calories. YES! TRUE! But some calories AID in weight loss, some AID in muscle production, some AID in digestion, and some are empty calories that get stored as fat!

    WHAT Is wrong with that???

PS> I said a million times that eating a donut or pizza or whatever your heart desires is in no way BAD to do now and then. We all deserve indulgences. But please be careful when telling people they can eat WHATEVER they want and as long as its a calorie deficit it is healthy and they will lose weight. It is much more complicated than that. Life shouldn't be just about weight loss... but rather a HEALTHY FIT Lifestyle with weight loss as a perk if it is needed.

welcome to MFP. enjoy your stay

p.s. we dont give 2 sh!ts what most fitness magazines say. those are printed to sell copies, and are full of misconceptions
  • Someone might as well say a CANDY Bar is healthier than chicken breast. I mean... the quotes from some of you saying "It really just depends on the _______candy bar______" Right... Lets debate again... and make a sticky point on every little thing.

I'm sure a candy bar could be healthier than a chicken breast... Ya know, it could be made of Kale and spinach! :noway:

Just goes to show that just about everything is debatable. And unfortunately... with that logic and since several of you are going that route, there is just no more to debate. Some of you keep saying I don't get it and dont know what I'm talking about. Well hmm... my track record says otherwise, but that isn't for you to know since it holds no merit over a message board where people can say anything. I'm extremely confident with my abilities to help others get healthy, look amazing, lose weight, get strong, and feel confident. So trying to "bring me down" through a computer screen really will not affect me.

I still look forward to conversations on these boards where we can have adult conversations without judgement and rude remarks, and turning everything into an argument. So I look forward to speaking with some of you about living a healthy lifestyle. I look forward to hearing about others weight loss and fitness stories. I live for this and health is my passion.

To the rest of you... enjoy your candy bars... that could be healthy because they COULD be made of kale.... .

typical chicken for most is not skinless boneless grilled in olive oil...it's skin on and fried...so yah typical pizza would be better.

Any fitness magazine is full of crap about clean eating and toning no thanks...

Doctors have 20 hours in nutrition...no thanks and yes I have the studies to back that up along with personal details from many doctor friends who refuse to give out diet or nutrional advice.

Nutrional conference given by whom???? Personal trainers like you...yah no thanks

Nobody twisted anything...you said you need to eat clean and exercise to lose weight...no you don't, you said all calories were not created equal...yes they are...

You unfortunately do not know what you are talking about...you are spouting things read in fitness magazines and from god knows what other sources...

because you are still insisting that certian types of calories are stored as fat...the only ones store as fat are the excess ones, the only calories that aid in weight loss are the ones you don't eat...

What is wrong with this last post is you refuse to even consider you are wrong...you refuse to listen or consider other options.

And yes you can say the same for us...but you are wrong there too...I came here believiing 1200 was the way to go...I learned quickly it wasn't...I believed I couldn't eat certian foods and had to eat Low fat...boy was I wrong...I actually didn't think you could hit certian macros on 1200 but you can but you have to be so careful...I didn't realize that low calorie diets destroyed my muscle..I learned that pretty quick too...

What you don't realize is that there are people here who are "professionals" in their fields and have more letters behind their names than some of these posts...but you are adament you are right and anyone disagreeing with you is wrong...without knowing for sure where their information is coming from...

PS I will continue to tell people to eat what they love and crave as long as they are in their deficit to lose weight, but if they want to retain muscle mass and focus on health and fat loss...not just weight loss that they need to watch their macros and get those in before the treats but they can fit treats in...everyday even and that they don't have to restrict anything from their diet unless it's for medical reasons.

Many Fitness Magazines, PT's, and these fitness conferences are kind of a scam and fad as well. A lot of the things you have been citing as your reference for your knowledge are part of the scams currently going around. They just aren't as easy (for some) to see right away that they are a scam.

This is exactly the point I was trying to make when I said that pizza can be healthier than chicken. I'm not trying to jump on you or prove you wrong. I read everything that I write and I like to believe that I understand it, even if the point doesn't always come across like I think it will. I also did you the favor of not once shouting at you in this thread, so your choice to do so is unappreciated.

You never replied to my earlier post about food fear on these boards, so I don't know if you read it or not. I'll revisit it quickly. There are a lot of people who become obsessed with only eating the healthiest diet possible. When we make false comparisons like this it hurts those lurking who have this sort of mindset. I say that chicken is not necessarily healthier than pizza because it's not. Let me shout that because it bears repeating: CHICKEN IS NOT NECESSARILY HEALTHIER THAN PIZZA.

The general idea that I'm trying to get across is that literally nothing is healthier than anything else unless you look at it in the context of someone's diet. A diet is healthy or unhealthy. A food by itself is neither. Pizza has veggies, crust, cheese, and meat (in most cases). It's a full meal. One could live on pizza and have a relatively decent diet. Even take-out pizza. A chicken breast is just meat. It's mostly just a good source of protein. It's not something that you'd want to live on by itself for the rest of your life. That doesn't make pizza healthier. That doesn't make chicken breast healthier.

Drop the comparisons. Drop the labels. Talk to people instead of yelling at them and insinuating that they're uneducated or just trying to pick a fight. It really will help you out in the long run.

I'm curious, not bashing just genuinely curious. You have stated over and over that people keep bringing up that you used "clean" when that wasn't even what your post was about. You said it though and it was part of your post. Why wouldn't people harp on that if it is something that they find offense with? Also I'm curious why you felt the need to come on here and post your public service announcement? Do you honestly think that people don't know about these scams already? The people that would buy into them aren't people that would listen to your warning anyways. It looks like this was one of your first post's ever on this forum what prompted you to do this today? I'm honestly just wondering your thought process. Not in a bad way just wanting to find out where you are coming from on this.

(As in saying I said they MUST ONLY eat clean foods... and never eat unhealthy foods. Which I clearly CLEARLY stated that I eat them too).

You did it again. You're killing me, Smalls.

Did what? Read carefully what I wrote... that was about what others said, not myself.

Man, harsh group towards someone just trying to warn people about health/fitness scams that I see daily. Isn't this a Heath and fitness forum to share tips, advice, etc? I'll say it again... MYYYYY BADDDD for using a common word. My Baddd that it got taken in the wrong context. MY BAD for wishing you all a healthy journey. I mean clearly I don't know what I'm talking about
To those who sent me private messages supporting my post. Thank you :) Glad I could help. I have no regrets about what I said other than using a word that basically took all meaning away from what I was actually getting at.
You can't suggest eating healthy food around here without sending the yahoos into a tizzy.

They like their junk food and they don't want to hear that it might not be healthy.

They cannot be convinced that such a thing as junk food exists, much less hat it might be bad for them.

It was nice of you to try to help people. :). But, some people cannot be helped. There are none so blind.

    Leave them be.
There you go pontificating again and making sweeping generalization. This is senseless banter.
  • ^^^^ Kale Candy Bars PEOPLE! Lets argue about that too! ;) This is almost fun.

Clearly... I have NO Idea what I'm talking about. My body must show for it along with my clients.

Anyone that wants to have an adult debate with me can send me a message and I will start to be serious about this and give my insights and actually listen to yours. Right now all I hear is blah blah blah since so many of you are arguing and knit picking every little thing.

Ohhh I get it... YOU all are the experts... OOPS My bad lol. :::eye roll:::

    Kale Candy Kale Candy!

<hate that I have to stoop this low, but I think its the only way some of you can understand>

See this is the thing my sisters body looks like yours...she takes green coffee bean extract, raspberry ketones, "eats clean" and does tonnes of cardio...she doesn't know what she is talking about most of the time either so apparently the presence of low body fat means about as much as your OP....

People on this board can think ANYTHING they want about me. They can think like you and compare me to your sister who does Tons of cardio of which I do not. I do however have a great workout routine (that works for ME) and a suitable nutrition plan that also works for ME. I also train and coach many people who are also doing great. (Each client is on a different program that fits their needs... so no nutrition plan or diet is exactly the same). Whether you believe it or not is your choice. I've had great experience, recommendations, and I LOVE what I do. Making judgements on a message board will not take any of that away from me.

And yes I believe pizza is as good as lean chicken..maybe more so as it has more macros than chicken and hits lots of micros...esp if it's delux with veggies and cheese and meats.
Deluxe pizza is more healthy than lean chicken.

You can't make this stuff up.

eliminate this or that foodgroup... um, no thanks , i kind like meat and carbs are good grains not evil nobodies..

the only things you should limit is the amounts.
will you feel better on brown rice and broccoli.
thank burger king and dunkin donuts..
most likely long term , but that doesnt mean i wouldnt eat them..

CASE IN POINT - DONT JUDGE!!!

come on i had awesome "fast food" last night from Bojangles,2 pieces of chicken and dirty rice. you know why . cuz it was free, as part of signing up for the bone marrow donor registry... and my kids did too ... then we went roller skating for 2 1/2hours and came home and had wild picked blackberries(picked them that morning) with vanilla protein shake poured over as "cream"
which one was healthier??? i dunno , both were delicious!!!

and some are empty calories that get stored as fat!

But they don't though. Calories only get stored as fat if they're in surplus.

I have no issues with anything you said. Good points were made and I definitely understand about the Bojangles.
