    Years ago, when I was living in a larger city (mid-sized city), I did a statistical calculation of how many women I would need to meet in that city before I found one who was compatible, based on several factors and demographic data of the city. I don't recall the exact number, but it was about 4-5 times larger than the number of women living in that city at that time.

    Since then, I settled with someone who wasn't right (though I should have known better) because I thought we could make it work. That turned out to be a very bad idea. From here on out, I won't even go on a first date with someone who is incompatible on at least 1 key factor. I figure that I would rather be alone and happy than hitched and unhappy.

    And you may want to add, someone who knows their mind. I just ended a 10 year relationship because he changed his mind on two key factors. But I had a good 10 years together so it was worth it.

    In my case, the 2 years together was not worth it at all. I have only 2 hard deal-breakers, and I ignored it because I was desperate. But, that is different than being on the same page for 10 years and then breaking up when that was no longer the case.
