Is it bad when working out if extreme hatred helps me exercise more and make me more motivated to keep running or doing exercise i find when people put me down well i am working out I work out harder is that a bad thing ? I mean I think if I had someone all day yelling at me saying I wasn't good enough or i am to fat I'd literally work out all day long!!! maybe you guys can help me with this!!!!
Don't hate. Just work out at your own pace in your own way. And realize that there are ignorant people in this world. There will always be ignorant, insensitive, uncaring people in the world. Most people are good though. Focus on that and do your thing.0 -

Hi, new to the group here. I'm trying to get in at a minimum of 60 miles per week on the road. I have two questions:
1) does anyone have any good sites for healthy recovery options after rides that keep you on your fitness goals?
2) does anyone have any good remedies for hot foot during your ride?
Thanks..Frank0 -

1. I'm not sure. Are you asking about what to eat for recovery? I don't worry to much about nutrition after the ride unless I do a long ride 60 miles plus.
2. I put chamois cream on my feet before a long ride.0 -

I guess I could say "hey, whatever motivates you. On the other hand - life is too short to add on top of the stress we already feel another pile of uneeded stress. Especially if one examines all of the factors of heart disease, diet, stress and working out.
You should be able to motivate yourself to exercise for your own self and goals as opposed to the negative influences that others might heap upon you.
IMO of course. Nothing wrong with using some exercise to get a nice release of endorphins to improve the mood and lower the stress levels though.0 -

***August Goals = race well in mountain bike races on my calendar for the 3rd, 17th, 24th, and the big "50 miler" on the 31st. That's a lot of mountain bike racing for one month meaning I will have to taper and recover as best as possible this month to pull it off.0 -
I am trying to work on my speed. So I do the same ride every day now and try to beat my own time. So far I only succeeded in getting the same time. But I had a real good day yesterday, I was flying. I still do not have a Garmin, but for what I am doing the little old bike computer I have is fine.

I do not think you have to worry about recovery if you ride 60 miles a week. Just eat a healthy meal after riding.
I always put foot powder on my feet before riding. I do not have much problems with hot feet, sometimes one foot gets a little bit swollen in the heat and I have to stop and massage it and I wet my socks to cool the foot down.0 -

You got it lemurcat12, progress! Keep moving forward!2) does anyone have any good remedies for hot foot during your ride?
Well Frank, I just got started cycling last year. When I started, 60 miles a week would have been a huge effort (and it was at the time). I'm now riding 100 miles a week and it's not that bad. I do remember my feet getting hot during the rides and I was just riding with normal tennis shoes. Now I clip in and with that, a lot of my foot issues disappeared. Instead of always pushing down, I'm now using other directions and that releases some pressure on the bottom of your feet. If you don't want to clip in (I recommend that you do, but your choice), then consider better footwear. Something with a better fit and more ventilation will work wonders. If you start riding longer than 30 or 40 miles at a time, the foot powder (or other treatment) is the way to go.
Not sure about other websites, but recovery gets easier as your body adjusts to the workout level. It may take several months to get there, but just keep making progress.
jasmineandgre, using hate as a motivator works for a while, but eventually you need more hate to keep it going. Not a good motivational mechanic. I totally can relate, but you'd be better off finding an internal motivation. I get zero motivation from my friends (sort of a loner), but I realized that I love cycling and it's a blast to get to do it. You are awesome for who you are, not because someone says it to you. You are valuable and you should celebrate that by cranking your awesomeness up a few notches. I hope you stay with it... for you.
Wow, soap box mode OFF. Sorry.
Some more cool pics there Hornsby. I'm running for a couple days to keep my ride/run ratio, but I'm at 385 miles (Ride) / 37 miles (Run) for the month. Hope to get in one more ride to hit 400.0 -

My husband and I just started cycling about a month ago. I find that it is a great time for us to spend together each day when his busy schedule allows it. When he can't go with me I still try to go by myself. We usually go anywhere from 6 to 10 miles a day and we try to go every day. As of right now I just have a leisure bicycle. It doesn't have a way to shift gears and the maximum speed I can achieve is around 12mph. If we continue cycling I would love to get something lighter than can go a little faster. There is a Publix being built right now within cycling distance of my house so I had a basket installed on my bike and I am looking forward to riding over to pick up a few groceries, too. I love cycling for exercise!
I just found this group and I am looking forward to setting a goal for myself in September!0 -

I still have three days left. I should be able to make my goal this month. I did have a little over a week span where I was working the overnight shift, which threw things off, then went up into the mountains to do some hiking. I am looking forward to meeting this goal, then increasing and meeting the goal for next month!0 -
Thank you for all of the positive thoughts and prayers. At my surgical follow-up the doctor told me that my cancer is non-invasive and will not require further treatment. I still need to see the oncologist every 3 months for testing and I need some genetic testing, but the future looks good.
My bike is still a long ways away, but I'm looking forward to next summer!0 -
