    Happy February to all!

This is my third week with MFP and I love using the tracker. I lost 6 pounds in January but for one week, the scale has not budged. Weight loss really is slower with age! I will try not to be discouraged.
I truly believe that the key to sticking with it this time will be the support on this site.

    My goals for February are:

    Eat lunch at work
Have lots of food on hand always(no excuses)
    Don't get hungry or bored
    Don't stay angry

Thanks all y'all for your words of wisdom and your honesty!

chicklet - I had my period last January, didn't have one until this December, had a SMALL one in January. I honestly believe that I got it in December because I was under a lot of stress.

Alice - LOVED your picture....really put a smile on my face.

Well, I did an hour of yoga today and then an hour of deep water. Tomorrow I'm going to try doing some yoga (I really need to try to get flexible) and then a band DVD workout. TSO presale tickets for their tour are going on sale at 10:00 tomorrow. Then, we're supposed to go to a lunch with the Newcomers. We may have to leave early as I'm scheduled for my Reclast infusion at 1:30. From last year, even tho I've been on biphosenates (?sp) and drank water before I went for the infusion, I was SOOOO achey for days afterwards. I'm sure that'll happen again this year.

Tonight Vince and I are going to this local pizza place before we go bowling. Another couple is going to join us. So I'm trying to keep my calories down during the day. I read somewhere that if you have protein for breakfast and protein for lunch, you're much less likely to get hungry. And it works!

Welcome jesusloves! By posting you've joined. Let us know something more about yourself

sveltewisher - thanks for the info about Chinese New Year. It's always intrigued me.

Well, we went out to dinner and met another couple there. I had two slices of their vege pizza, a salad, a glass of water, and for dessert carrots and tomatoes. I think I've been spoiled by the terrific desserts in France, when we got home Vince had some of the Hostess Sweet Sixteen mini donuts (frosted). I was going to have one, but I just put 1/2 of it in my mouth and it felt so funny that I didn't even eat the rest. However, I snacked on a carrot. Weird, but good.

Bowled 3 games tonight. Didn't do too bad on one game, was one pin shy of 100, and really s****ed for the third game. Well, it's been almost 2 weeks since we did any bowling. Still need to postbowl for the games we missed.

Here's wishing everyone a wonderful evening.

The sandwich was just too too big.
Isn't always?! Portions in this country are completely out of control. I personally think this started with restaurants. I don't remember all these jumbo sizes in stores until they were in restaurants first.
I know I am eating too much due to the cold
Did you know restaurants keep the temp a bit cooler so we'll eat more? Another thing to hate them for!

Actually, I love going out to eat. It's fun to eat things I never get at home, like fish. (Dh won't make it because he doesn't like it.)

I've been going crazy with work and Sat. night at 9:40pm, when I was still there, I finally had enough. I'm not going to go insane trying to meet crazy deadlines any more. It's barely Feb. and we don't ship until Sept! It's all self-imposed too. I just need to estimate better, I think.

    Morning Ladies

 We've had a good start to January, page 3 already.

:flowerforyou: Macmadame I'm with you too, I'll weigh in every Monday regardless of up or down. Must admit my weight does go up and down during the month, I seem to sick at a certain weight for ages before my ticker moves in the right direction. I've been between 143 and 145 pounds for months now. I want to be down to 140 pounds by my birthday in March.

:flowerforyou: Alice loved the pic. We've gone back to a cold spell here, although no snow thank goodness.

:flowerforyou: Welcome to all our new ladies Sveltewisher, shayla, Jesusloves, Judz46, Hopeful53 and Oldbat (Pam) Hope I haven't forgotten anyone  Hopeful were abouts in the UK do you hail from? I live in Yorkshire in the lovely City of York.

 Well I've changed my goals ready for Feb. This month I really really really must keep up with exercising. The running club has finished now, although there's an improvers group starting next week. Not sure I'm ready for that yet. I do want to run at least one lunchtime a week though with my friend - she's a good motivator - and a good runner.

:frown: Time to get a move on, DD is not too well so we haven't walked the doggies yet. I think I'll have to walk Tara on my own, (I can't manage Frankie so he'll have to wait until she's better)

Need to be at work on time today too, Jane is going to be late in, so better get cracking.

    Take care everyone

Don't feel bad. It would be impossible to bowl worse than I have. The first game that I ever bowled, I got a zero. I don't know anyone else who has ever accomplished that. I am somewhat better now - more likely to get about an 80. My personal high is 126, but it was when I went out without permission at 2:00 in the morning with friends in high school, so somehow I have always felt maybe it didn't count. I tell people that I feel that 50 is a respectable score, because that means you got 1/2 of the pins!

    Good morning ladies,
I did okay yesterday but not great. meals were fine but ate a little too much candy. already ate breakfast today and did well. kenneth is home not feeling well so I may get to do some exercise today. Have dentist appt. this morn and not sure what after that. I know it is not as cold here as it is for some of you but I am so cold. I find it hard to do anything. I used to so love the cold weather and now I hate it. I cannot warm up. Hope to post more later. Stay warm and stay healthy. Welcome to newcomers. Love the snowmen picture. so cute. Have a good day.

  • I've decided to give myself another chance to make myself top priority when it comes to my health and happiness ~ can't think of a better place to share my achievements and frustrations. I was on this great board too long ago and the support was always there. Somehow, I fell by the wayside and was finally able to pick myself up ... it's good to be back.

In the deep south, they have a handle for all of us who live north of the deep south, that visit. Anne Murray is one of my favorite singers...and I am dedicating these lyrics to Snowbirds! Be happy and Be warm! :D Beneath it's snowy mantle cold and clean, The unborn grass lies waiting for its coat to turn to green. The:flowerforyou: snowbird sings the song he always sings, And speaks to me of flowers that will bloom again in spring. When I was young my heart was young then, too. And anything that it would tell me, that's the thing that I would do. But now I feel such emptiness within, For the thing that I want most in life's the thing that I can't win. Spread your tiny wings and fly away, And take the snow back with you where it came from on that day. The one I love forever is untrue, And if I could you know that I would fly away with you. The breeze along the river seems to say, That he'll only break my heart again should I decide to stay. So, little snowbird, take me with you when you go, To that land of gentle breezes where the peaceful waters flow. Spread your tiny wings and fly away, And take the snow back with you where it came from on that day. The one I love forever is untrue, And if I could you know that I would fly away with you. Yeah, if I could I know that I would fly away with you.

This song reminds of Spring..and ole' man Winter who betrayed us by dumping snow and ice in so many peoples' path.

Enjoy dreaming of Spring :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Welcome to All Newcomers:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
  • Lynn, that song brings back memories of really happy times for me. I've always enjoyed Anne Murray and she's one of my favorite singers. Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

Just a fly by posting as I'm off to bed before it turns midnight here.

Had a good day foodwise (having a detox whilst DH is off in the States) and an excellent day with exercise. Topped off by a trip to a jazz evening after my aqua fit class with some of the other members.

I've made myself a hot water bottle to make up for no warm husband in bed (I really feel the cold at night).

Hope you all are having a good day and being kind to yourselves .... because you're worth it!

    Love

Hi, fellow boomers! I'm a newbie here and love it. So much positive energy and great ideas in one place. My goal for February is to continue to lose the 10 lbs every 10 years I've managed to accumulate.
  • Hi to the 50+gals, what a great group. Can I join? January was my first real month, and although I didn't make much progress, I've at least managed to get my eating under control. My goal for February is simply to add exercise - get up and move!! That should get the ticker moving in the right direction.

I'd like to join this group. I have been doing MFP for about a year and I think this past month I have been sloppy. I need to get moving. I have gotten so many great ideas from this website. I hope I can add to the discussion! My goal for February is to get to the gym when I say I am going (4 -5 times per week) and to limit eating out to 1-2 times a week.

    Hello All,

Robin, Your daughter makes a beautiful bride.

Deborah-gracefuldreamer--this looks like a new login for you. What was your old one. Some of us, who have been around here a while might remember you, if we knew it. Regardless, Welcome back!!

    Welcome to all the newbies!!

Amanda, hope that water bottle doesn't spring a leak. I know a way to keep you warmer, fill the water bottle w/a little Irish whiskey!!! LOL

I am up late watching Nightline, hoping that everybody in Egypt takes a deep breath and steps back, but it doesn't look too likely. They did a phone interview with an older American woman, who apparently lives in Cairo, and she described being in her high-rise apartment and having "thugs," as she described them, making their way up to her floor, and pounding on her door demanding entrance. She held them at bay with her cane, a kitchen knife and the threat of a kettle of boiling water--oh, and her rolling pin!!! Amazing!! She would like to get out but it is too dangerous for her to leave her home, and the US Embassy says they can't help her get out.

Well, I need to get off of here, so good night all, and to those of you in the snow zone..keep warm, and think of how nice it will be when Spring arrives!!

EDITED to add: Jimmy Kimmel just had two funnies in his monologue:

A new word "snowbliterated." And also, finally, with all the snow and cold, Americans' extra layers of fat are finally coming in handy!!

Hi, I was encouraged to see a group for women 50+ with a discussion group. I hope I can join you. I'm finishing my second week on MFP. I use it online and from my phone, and it's kept me on-track with my food. It's already modified some of my cooking and eating behaviors. For example, I used butter or olive oil when I cooked, and I'm finding that PAM is working just as well. I'm also realizing that, although I can "afford" some foods that are high in calories, they don't satisfy my hunger. So, I can see using the food diary and nutritional information can slowly change habits in a very positive way.

I'm really pleased with my progress, but I have some areas I need to set goals in. I'm already getting lazy about my meals, and I need to vary them and follow a plan instead of just grabbing something easy. Also, as a result of my weight, I have gone from pre-diabetic to Type II diabetic, and I also recently went on meds for HBP. Needless to say, I'd love to see some of those meds cut back or eliminated. So, to achieve that, another goal I have is to monitor my carbs better because I need to spread them evenly thoughtout the day to keep my blood sugar stable. Theoretically, I should only have about 135 throughout the day, spread evenly. That's hard for me to hit, and I'm usually around 175 per day. Also, I'm not hitting my goal on water. So, I have a lot of work to do, but I'm making this my primary priority, and I'm going to be in this for the long run. MFP has given me some real hope that I can improve my health and fitness.

Want to say thanks for the warm welcomes...it's nice to see all the lively posts here.

So, a little about myself… Well,
I was born in Texas and only agreed to marry the hubs if he brought me "home" when he retired military. After 20 years, he's in civies and I get to live in Austin:happy: Together, we have 4 kids...one married (w/my grandbabies), 2 in college & 1 in high school. I am a recently (semi-) retired teacher, I come from a huge (extended) family, and I love zumba, cheese & chips

Our baby girl just turned 18 and already a Jr. in college. The eldest has "gone back to college" and the little guy is all honors w/straight As....he was recently diagnosed with t1diabetes and I, therefore, quit teaching to take care of the home front

I have literally changed every aspect of my life these past couple of years. Although I have always been active, I find that it takes much more effort these days....my workouts include Zumba, Yoga, Kinesis Wall/Weights, Elliptical, Core and starting Monday, BodyPump. Sounds like a lot, but I need variety or I lose interest.

All in all I need to drop more than 20lbs, so I frequent these boards & try to keep things in focus and myself motivated! So glad to have found you ladies.
Snow day...no school for the kiddos, so that probably means no gym today. Thank goodness we have the Wii  that's always a blast.

Good day ladies...& thx again for the warm welcome :flowerforyou:

Well at last. I found y'all
Let me introduce myself. I turned (gulp) 60 in Oct. If you're blessed you get there, kinda the
Same way you get to that milestone 50. I have been married for almost 42 years (March) to my H
S sweetheart. We have 5 wonderful children, 3 girls, 2 boys and 9 wonderful grandchildren with one one the way.
My husband and I live in Mission, Tx and he goes to Reynosa, Mx. Everyday! Please pray for his safety.
4 of our children live in the Houston area and one lives in Bastrop, Tx.

For most of my life I have been pretty thin then I turned 40, woke up and couldn't see anything and went totally stupid(hypothyroidism) and put on 20 lbs. And for the last 20 years ( I can't believe its been that long but it has), I have been struggling with that 20 lbs.

Then this year I was showing my dil this site I had found and was using,SparkPeople. She showed me MFP and that was it.
I love this site and all of the encouragement that is so freely and lovingly given by all age groups.

I've been on MFP for almost 3 weeks, have lost 3 lbs. , have done some kind of exercise everyday and have logged in every day.

My goal for February is to lose 8 lbs., drink more water and continue to exercise everyday. I am training to run my first 5K in April w my DIL ( the one that introduced me to MFP) in Fredricksburg. The irony of this is, I am not a runner, never have been , never even liked to run. But I have started the C25K program and I'm now a jogger/walker. I'm in W3D 2. Try it!

Well thanks again would love to be friends with you all, give me an invite!
Have a great day and stay safe!

Most of Albuquerque is closed down due to the cold to save energy for people's homes. I only worked 2 days this week. The hubby and kids only had school on Monday. We have joined the 1/2 of the USA under cold, ice and snow.

Peggy, our Dalmatian/Lab cross took my mother's bra from the bedroom and brought it outside this morning. No one remembers her going out with it in her mouth. Nothing like a white on white scavenger hunt in 1 foot of snow with sub-zero temperatures, but we managed to find it.

I will leave you all with that as a comment. There is really nothing to follow it up with.

    Stay safe and warm all,

    Hi from Sunny Florida!
    :glasses:
    Happy to be here.
I joined MFP in January and am following The 17 Day Diet.
And I'm also happy to say...it works!.....both MFP and the diet....
I've lost a few pounds...a few inches...and am working hard towards losing some more...exercising with kettlebells, walking every day, going to the gym. I just got my HRM yesterday...and can't wait to try it out.
    Enjoy your day.

Well, my pipes finally thawed out last night, but they broke, so still no water. My husband took today off to find a plumber, so here's hoping for running water that doesn't cost an arm and a leg! I guess I'll see when I get home from work, but not real sure that it will get done today.

    Alice- Love your picture

Robin- Your daughter was a beautiful bride

JEANNIE- We have a lab that likes to steal things too. Fortunately he doesn't chew things- just steals them because he can. In the summer, he is constantly stealing sandals when we leave them next to a lounge chair. he runs off and takes them to the back of the yard and lays down with them between his paws and puts his head on them. Recently I left my glasses on the night stand and when I came home frome the gym, they were in the middle of my bedroom floor. He loves to get attention!

Mary- hope your pipes are fixed and you have water soon.

Bluespring- I envy your flordia weather.

It seems that this has certainly been a long cold winter. We had a 3 ft snowstorm Dec. 2 and it has been cold and snowy since. We have been lucky though in that even though we have had snow, it has generally been just a small amount at a time. Here in Western NY we have escaped most of the storms that have hit the rest of the country. This past week, they closed the schools anticipating a storm that never materialized. Though I will say that by early evening it was snowing and blowing hard enough that I couldnt get my butt out to go to zumba. Today the sun is shinning, (though still only 22 degrees) but I felt like I had a bit more energy and made it to spinning.

Okay, I have put off the housework long enough.
