All right, ladies, today is the first day of our 30 day commitment! Everyone needs to post their starting stats--whatever measurements you want to track, as well as your weight. I think that we should check in our weight on a weekly basis and I plan to recheck my measurements at the halfway point and at the end. Let's post updates every Sunday. Even if your normal weigh in day isn't on Sunday, you can just post weight from your normal weigh in day.

For those of you just finding this thread, we are a closed group, so catch us next time around!

Good to see everyone checking in! Hope everyone enjoyed Day 1 Level 1 of the shred! I didn't burn as many calories doing the video (per my HRM) as I was expecting, so I did 25 minutes on the elliptical as well. I'll probably do that most days since it only takes a little over 20 minutes to get through Shred.

Keep up the great work everyone! Day 1 down, only 29 to go!!

Just curious...how are you going to log your exercise with the video? I was going to do it as Calisthentics...vigorous 20 mins but I want to make sure I have it calculated properly...

I just created a new exercise under cardio and I log it that way. I wear a heart rate monitor, so it calculates my calories burned based upon my weight, heart rate, etc. I think that calisthenics is probably a pretty good estimate though!!

Word of advice: Do not drink 2 glasses of pinot at Sunday dinner with your mum then try to do the Shred! It will cause you to yell things at Jillian that you would otherwise keep to yourself! I made it through but I had to down size my weights on anterior raises with side lunges .

I always record the exercise as Calisthentics (vigorous effort). That's the way I've heard other people logging it as well. I think it's probaby pretty accurate! Hope that helps!

Good morning! Sorry I'm late. I had lunch (and wine) with girlfriends that turned into an all day event and early bedtime. But I shredded before lunch and took measurements. Here they are:

    5'2"
    SW: 135
    GW: 128-130
    Hips: 36.25
    Waist: 30.75
    Belly: 36 :(
    Chest: 37.5
    Arms: 12.25
    Leg: 22.5

I've been working out regularly for quite a while and I am sore today. I used 8 pound weights b/c my 5 pound ones are in a box somewhere (we just moved). I will be finding my other dumbell tonight!

Heather, how many calories did it say you burned? Good luck everyone!

    -Ashley

My HRM said that I burned 160 calories doing it yesterday. I didn't do it this morning and am planning to do it tonight, so hopefully I can burn closer to 200 calories if I up the weights or intensity a bit. I agree with Tiff and Ashley about the soreness--even if you work out regularly this must work muscles we're not used to using because I'm sore too!!

Hope everyone is having a great day!!

Okay, 2 days down, only 28 to go!! I'm hoping that I'll have a bigger calorie burn when we get to levels 2 and 3. I tried to up my intensity and I used 8 pound weights on everything but the side lunge/anterior raise things, and I could only manage 5 pounds there. Despite that I only burned 188 calories on my heart rate monitor. Oh well, I guess I just need to trust that Jillian knows what she's doing!!!!

Keep doing a great job ladies!!!

    Hi all!

Sorry I'm a day late. I'm a graduate student and sometimes my schedule gets unexpectedly chaotic. I have some bad news. After trying the 30 day shred yesterday, I'm having some serious knee pain. I've consulted with my orthopedic and he said the video may be too high impact for me as of now. In short, my knee caps dislocate easily (even after surgery) and being unstable (i.e., jumping around) puts me at risk for another dislocation. Therefore, I'm not going to complete the 30 days. I'm quite disappointed. I was really looking forward to seeing results quickly. Oh well, back to the elliptical and walk-away-the-pounds for me.

I apologize for taking someone's slot on this adventure. I really did not anticipate having this much difficulty.

I wish you all the very best!!

No worries--you have to do what is best for your body! Take care and keep moving it on the elliptical!!!

It's going on Day 3 and I am feeling sore but good. I have to moderate the side lunges but other than that I am loving this workout. Go Shredders!!!!

Hmmm...maybe I shoudl lower my estimate. I was estimating 180 calories for Level 1. I need to get a HRM. But Jillian says it's like "putting in hours at the gym"!

I'm going to go for a run tonight after I shread. Get a couple miles in and burn some extra calories. I'm still sore, but not more than yesterday. I found my other 5 pound dumbell and it was much better with the 5 pounds. I have trouble with the front shoulder raises too. I had to alternate on a few of them to give my arms a break. And I am nowhere near doing all the pushups in "boy" style. I got 12 the first set and I think about 7 the second. I'll get there! Good job everyone!

Day 3 of the Shred complete, plus 15 minutes on the elliptical. Only 27 days to go!!! I'm a little sore, but not too bad. I was doing the girl pushups which were pretty hard, but maybe I'll throw in a few of the real pushups tomorrow.

Yep, Ashley, I would recommend a HRM. I think that the Shred is a great adjunct to other cardio, but I wonder if it is enough on it's own? I guess it also depends on how much you like to eat/drink because I sure enjoy having 500 extra calories to play with when I burn that many. I wonder if we are really good on the eating if that will make up for the lack of calories burned? I am definitely going to try to burn at least 150 calories in addition to whatever I burn with the Shred on most days.

Keep it going ladies, we are rocking!!!

Maybe it's because I'm a super-chub, but my hrm is giving me a HUGE calorie burn doing this...I haven't done it today yet (not feeling well so I slept in until I HAD to get ready for work), but Sunday and Yesterday were both between 300-350 for 5 minute jog in place then the 20 minute circuit she puts us through....crazy!

Alright...that's it! I'm getting a HRM. Can someone recommend one? Heather I know you told me about one once but I deleted that email. Nothing too expensive. Thanks chicks!

    300-350 calories is awesome!
