    10/2 - 27 miles (17.4 mph)
    10/6 - 52 miles (16.1 mph)
    10/7 - 38 miles (16.1 mph)
    10/8 - 52 miles (16.2 mph)
    10/9 - 7 miles (14 mph)
    10/10 - 19 miles (15.5 mph)
    10/11 - 32 miles (16.1 mph)
    10/12 - 18 miles (12 mph w. slow friend)

    Total: 245 miles (17.5/day)
    Goal: 300 miles (10/day)

Almost pulled the trigger on upgrading my road bike (to a Cervelo R3 w. 105- local store was covertly selling one on eBay - bid $1650, closed at $1720), but the frame was a touch bigger than I wanted (as I really fit a 54cm and this was a 56cm), so kinda glad I wasn't as aggressive.

Still, the carbon fiber frames seem to be calling out to me - but I'm sure I'll then want to upgrade to Ultegra, then Dura Ace, then Di2 and the vicious cycle will never end until I've shelled out $7,000 - at which point my bike thirst will reappear the following year when the next model comes out.

I would love to set my goal at 100 miles per week, however, 75 miles is a bit more realistic. Luckily, I live in Southeast Georgia, so I can bike year around. Actually, as of Wednesday, Oct. 15, I already have 201.4 miles in.

I started seriously biking this summer when I started MFP. I use Strava to keep track of my bike riding. I have a 20 year old Trek 820 Mountain bike that has served for the last 4 months and I've gone about 1500 miles. I invested in bike maintenance and replacing grips/seat. I added a bike light set for riding at night. I have a nice helmet and gloves that are worn everytime I ride the bike. I've also invested in bike clothing. The extra padding and moisture wicking really helped.

I'm going to pick up my new bike today. I bought a road bike from Nashbar and my local bike shop basically set up the bike for me. The bad news is that I won't be able to take that bike out for a serious ride until sometime next week. In the meantime, I'm keeping my Trek as my banger bike for zooming through the dark bike rides and anywhere I go where I don't want to risk the new bike.

Considering my rather serious disability, I'm never going to race or do stupid stuff on the bike. What I have found in biking is something I can do for lifetime fitness. I enjoy bike riding a lot. Therefore, I plan to bike ride a lot.

I actually just got a new bike last night! A 2013 Trek Madone 6 series Project one with all Sram RED which I got off ebay for $2,300 (not bad for a 7k bike new). I am taking it to the bike shop tonight for them to assemble it for me. It will be replacing my 2004 Diamondback master series which I got used for $800 9 years ago.

I had set a goal of riding 2000 miles this season. That goal was met today on a ride through the country side of southeast Iowa. Weather is changing here and the season is nearing the end.

October 2 - rode 6.5 miles for a duration of 00:35.48 (mountain bike)
October 6 - rode 12.9 miles for a duration of 1:04:35 (mountain bike race simulation)
October 7 - rode 26.7 miles for a duration of 1:35:27 (road bike)
October 9 - rode 11.3 miles for a duration of 00:45:02 (XC race warm-up practice)
October 11 - rode 17.4 miles for a duration of 1:25:36 (two laps of XC mountain bike practice)
October 12 - rode 19.3 miles for a duration of 1:04:51 (mountain bike race simulation)
October 14 - rode 14.8 miles for a duration of 1:00:42 (road bike taper rep intervals)
October 16 - rode 14.4 miles for a duration of 1:00:01 (tech skills, and intervals)

    October Total = 123.3 miles/8:32:02 hours

*I have no cycling goals for October in terms of miles, and hours. I will race in two mountain bike races on my schedule to finish out the 2014 racing season. At this point, I can't gain any more fitness for October, so I'm just trying to maintain what is left from the previous 10 months of training enough to do races on the 19th and the 25th. Then it's time for fall riding, and weight-lifting season.

Ok... hit my target... still have another 2 weeks, but need to refocus my fitness time on swimming before my next triathlon in 3 weeks.

I might try the Pittsburgh to DC ride next week on my walmart commuter (as it has 32 wheels and the trail is gravel) if the weather cooperates.

    Month's goal: 400 miles

    10/2: 22.3 miles
    10/5: 28.5 miles
    10/6: 24.1 miles
    10/7: 29.6 miles
    10/8: 29.6 miles
    10/9: 24.0 miles
    10:10: 23.3 miles
    10/13: 16.8 miles
    10/14: 30.3 miles
    10/15: 39.9 miles
    10/16: 36.7 miles
    10/17: 29.6 miles

    Month's total: 334.7

Wednesday and Thursday evenings were gorgeous, in the upper and mid 60s, so I took the extra extra long way home from work. Minneapolis has a great bike trail system, so instead of simply following the route south down one side of the chain of lakes, I went around each of the lakes on my way home.

Next week's forecast looks ok. No biking on Monday as I have to go to the dentist in the morning. The lows still don't look like they're going to get to below freezing, so hopefully I can still eek out my 15 miles to work in the morning in the dark without having to take the shortcut to avoid the cold. No snow yet *knock on wood* I may actually hit 500 miles this month if we don't get snow.

So far did 29 miles this past week. Was going to ride today, but my neck is junk. I am so bummed. Gotta try to get some week day rides in.

10/2 - 4.0 miles at 10.1mph listening to Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack on my Walkman (which has external speakers).
10/5 - 1.8 miles. The wind was fun. Not.
10/7 - 3.8 miles at 9.4mph listening to Cheap Trick, Live at Budokan.
10/8 - 3.6 miles at 10.2mph listening to Joe Bonamassa's new album. Adjusted route mid-ride due to unexpected dog. Had to ride on busy highway for a short time. Ugh.
10/9 - 3.9 miles at 9.6mph listening to Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack.
10/12 - 1.8 miles at a slow pace. Listened to Joe Bonamassa again.
10/14 - 2.2 miles at 9.9mph listening to GoG soundtrack again.
    10/19 - 3.0 miles at 10.7mph listening to Journey.

Goal for October = 40 miles.
    MTD = 24.1 miles.
Still want to accomplish = 15.9 more miles.
