I mean lets just tax anyone over 1 million dollars at 90%. No one needs that much money.

Even the president agrees with me

It would create a level playing field for everyone. The rich need to pay their fair share.

I don't know about the USA, but in Canada, the top 2% of the wealthiest people (I believe it's those who make over $180k/year) account for about 80% of the total income tax the federal government brings in.

So yeah, I don't complain about the wealthy. Most of the people who have the money earned it, and they pay the highest amount of taxes.

Will Obama and the Senate be included in this tax? Or will they yet again determine themselves to be too important to have to be subjected to the same burdens as every other American citizen?

The rich already pay far more than their fair share, and this is coming from a guy who most certainly is not rich. If you really want to level the playing field, everyone should pay the same tax rate instead of penalizing success and subsidizing failure and laziness.

Better question, how to people who work a small part of the year get back thousands of dollars in tax returns?? Those of us in the middle are lucky to get anything at all...

Amen. My dad is a perfect example of someone coming from nothing who worked their way up, even without a college degree. His tax rate is insane.

Why would anyone want to work their way up to a better life if you just punish them for it?

I have dependents too and we are taxed closer to 30% than 14...

Honestly though, the rich really don't pay near as much as even the upper middle class does... thanks to tax shelters and tax benefits for things like giving to charities and the like... and honestly, Sweden is one of the happiest countries on earth and the rich pay at least 50% of the taxes, no exemptions.

It's all about the tax brackets. To be at 14% with dependents, you would be grossing less than 30k a year.

I wasn't including all of the taxes I paid in, just federal, or the bill I owed during tax time because I don't remember those numbers off of the top of my head. But I did have 2 dependents and purchased a house and new vehicle so perhaps that's why?

WHY don't we tax the rich? Because clearly they need all that money to create more jobs! ani-yeah-right.gif
  • People in the United States seem to want a lot of benefits and services from their state and federal government, but they also seem mostly unwilling to pay for it. It's a very strange thing.

Okay, I must not remember the numbers correctly then because I made $283k on salary last year.

Usually the people that want all the benefits are not the ones paying for them. Most people I know that do the majority of the paying when it comes to taxes don't need or want government benefits beyond the basic functions government should provide (defense, laws, etc.).

So, if we tax the rich at "90%", what is the incentive to become wealthy? Why would someone want to work hard to be taxed so much? In my opinion, a percentage of a large number is still bigger than the same percentage of a smaller one. Usually, millionaire work hard for their money and I, for one, think they deserve it. It shouldn't be a penalty!

I dunno. I thought that people with real money have their money do the work for them.
