Finished week 1 of Hal Higdon 1/2 N2. Skipped one day just to make sure the foot had healed. So far so good. Will knock out all the days next week.

Also a big fan of the new shoes I switched to (Asics Gel Kayano-20) - much better than the Adrenaline GTS-15 that I'd bought a couple a weeks. (When i got fit it was between those two models) Not quite as good as the Brooks Ghost 6's which were my first running shoe this summer and that I absolutely loved. But pretty close. :)

    Dec 1 - 3.5
    Dec 2- strength training
    Dec 3- 3.4
    Dec 4- strength training
    Dec 5 - 3.5
    Dec 6 - 3.5
    Dec 7 - 32 mile bike ride
    Dec 8 - 3.5
    Dec 9 - Strength training
    Dec 10 - 3.5
    Dec 11 - rest
Dec 12 - 3.5 AM and strength training PM
    Dec 13 - biking 28 miles
    Dec 14 - 3.5, then 12 miles biking.
    Dec 15 - strength training
    Dec 16 - 3.5
Dec 17 - rest - trainer cancelled. :( I needed to clean up house anyway for lots of company coming.
    Dec 18 - 3.5
    Dec 19 - going to rest - got a Santa’s 5K on Sat night.
    Dec 20 - 3.1 - Santa’s 5K
    Dec 21 - 18 mile bike ride

The 5K on Saturday was bizarre. It was SO dark! I came in 2nd in my age group but my time was the worst I've ever run -31 -- mainly because it was so dark. Also, my app said it was 3.3 so not sure if my app is off or they were. My daughter is home from college and she ran it and got 3rd in her age group - she doesn't run a lot but after running the turkey trot with me and now this one, she now is looking for others for us to run. About 5 minutes before the race started they said "this is not the race to run your personal best .. it is very dark ... there are many wild animals and if you see one you need to stop!" We were panicking that the road was going to be uneven we would fall, etc. There were luminaries (bags with glow sticks in them) along the route but that did nothing to really see the road. It was fun once it was over and we were safe, but not sure I'd do it again. https://www.facebook.com/SommerSports/timeline is the company that did it and there is a little video on that page that shows how dark it was. Crazy!

Yes, congrats to both of you for placing. Did you have a light during the run? From late fall through early spring, I do a number of runs at dusk or after sunset, and I find that a headlamp makes a huge difference. (See my profile photo.) I've heard that handheld lights are better for highlighting irregularities in the road, but I usually run on familiar roads, so that's not as much of an issue for me.

Ok - back on track after today's 12 miler. Should be able to get to 168 with all of my planned runs for the next week and a half despite all of the impending family/holiday madness. Cycling goal is looking doable as well (other forum - 235/400 miles). Would be nice to hit both targets for once.

    Dec 21 - 12 miles
    Dec 20 - 10K (6.2 miles @ 7:35 pace) + 1.8 mile jog
    Dec 18 - 5 miles
    Dec 17 - 5 miles
    Dec 16 - 5 miles
    Dec 14 - 20 miles
    Dec 13 - 5 miles
    Dec 11 - 5 miles
    Dec 10 - 8 miles
    Dec 9 - 5 miles
    Dec 7 - 13 miles
    Dec 6 - 8 miles
    Dec 4 - 5 miles
    Dec 3 - 5 miles
    Dec 2 - 5 miles

    Total: 114 miles (5.4/day)
    Goal: 168 miles (5.4/day)

Been resting for a couple of weeks nursing a pulled muscle from a race earlier in the month.

    12/22 - 2.87

Total: 9.07 miles out of 50

Will never make my 50 miles but I need to take care of my leg.
