Three days late but I'm with you guys. I'd love to see where we all are at the end of the month.

I'm like Marcie - I eat way too much when I drink. It's like drinking flips a nibbling switch or something and I start munching away... :o

I want to join this also! I plan to go til April the 1st, as I am on my way to losing 20 lbs! The alcohol always gets in the way for me!

What happens after January? Do you go back to drinking or is this something you plan on doing for life?

I will go back to drinking, but it's nice to have a break from it. I hope it also helps me cut back. Not that I drink a TON but same as someone posted above, one leads to two which leads to three which leads to bad food choices.

Laurend224, I tried fitting drinks into my calories but I easily get off track doing that so I need to try a different way for now.

Mycophilia, did you find that cutting out alcohol helped with weight loss?

I agree with you, i've tried adding them into my daily calories, but tend to go over then over eat.
So I accept your challenge, well starting today anyway, since I just seen this, of no alcohol for January! :)

I'm excited to see how it affects my weight loss!

    I'm in.
  • Better late than never! Just joined MFP and it seems like a good idea to kickstart my weightloss by cutting out the alcohol for a month. I am doing 2 fasting days a week so wine certainly does not figure on those days anyway!

Hi. I just joined and end of day 1. No booze for month part of my plan so I am in. I am missing my wine already! But I eat too much when I drink and honestly probably drink too much. Cheers!

I'm in ~ started today. I think the weekends will be tough, but I am hoping to see an increase in my general fitness levels. If that’s the case, then I might have to think about stopping all together. Lets see how it goes!

It was always part of my plan to take part in the dryathon (dry January) as well as focussing on my weight loss.

I gave up when I got up on the first (though I had drinks into the early hours before bedtime on New Year's eve).

So far it's going really well - though hubby was off on Saturday and wanted to know if I wanted some Sake, which I do like, and I sat drinking diet cherryade instead!
Mostly I will be drinking tea.

    So, hell, yeah, I'm in!

Hey everybody! So happy that so many of you are in this with me. I definitely need a lot of support myself. I made it through my first weekend booze free!!! I feel a lot better this morning when usually Monday's I am still craving greasing foods. I find that alcohol makes me crave bad food for days. Anybody else have a successful weekend?

For those asking, what happens after January.. At the end of the month, I plan on assessing how much the alcohol free month has helped and see if I need to stay away from alcohol longer or maybe try limiting it. We'll see :)

Like you I will assess whether it is worth giving up for longer or not.
  • I'm in too!

I originally had the goal of a full year off alcohol but I like the one month at a time. I've been off since NYE and have been looking for a community support.

    Let's do this!

Absolutely! Alcohol goes with crisps and junk food, and hangovers go with full-fat Coke and junk food. I've been off since NY, and am also keeping an eye on how much money I save... :)
