@autumnblade75 - Maybe you should run to the gym instead of driving :)

Ha! It's only about 4 miles...

If it wasn't so cold... That was part of the problem, right there - it's roughly 10 degrees here in Illinois, and my Jeep had no heat. You try driving any distance at all when you have to frantically scrape your condensed breath off the inside of the windshield at stoplights. Ugh. The tires were not so grippy on the road, and there was a whole inch of snow - I was driving a mere 15 mph and barely managed to keep it on the road.

While drinking/hydration may not be neccesary to all people I find that I get severe headaches after anything over 10 miles if I don't hydrate during my run. I agree that you shouldn't stress about it though. It is just a matter of trial and error. You have to do what works best for you and your body.

I should add that I sweat a ton! Which prob contributes to me needing to replenish during runs.

I agree.... I drink a lot when I'm running... but I used to really overthink it. I can't go 2-3 hours without drinking on my runs like Sonic does. But instead of stressing about what and how much I'm drinking, I just bring water and drink whenever I feel thirsty. Sometimes its every ten minutes, sometimes it's nothing....

And side note... the Amphipod handhelds are great. That ergonomic curve to the bottle makes it so easy and comfortable to haul along 20 oz....

Oddly enough, I actually found myself needing some added energy before I really needed to rehydrate as I picked up my distances running. I try and rehydrate with some energy drink by no more than 90 minutes in, any longer than that and I find that some days I can get depleted and it is hard to get back physically and mentally sometimes from that. I prefer just not to hit that in the first place. Ideally I do this every hour and I have no problems up to my longest distances, currently 13.1 miles.

I am glad I remembered this. Always good to have a goal. As always, target is 100 miles, but hoping to hit 115-120.

Didn't run today, but have run 4 times for 24 miles this month. Tomorrow is another cold day but will have to get out there to stay on track.

December was 118+, so ended the year strong with about 1,375 running miles. Thanks for this group for keeping me honest and accountable. Happy new year.

    1/1 = 6 miles
    1/2 = 4 miles + strength training
    1/3 = 6.5 miles
    1/4 = 3 miles + strength training
    1/5 = 6.5 miles
    1/6 = strength training
    1/7 = 6.5 miles

@fabnine Haha, I will remember this next time my better half asks me to do something I don't want to do :) "Leave me alone, I'm making a human being" /talktothehand

On the hydration discussion: I think it depends on a runner. I never ever drink during my runs and/or races, including half and full marathons. I know, I know I might get flamed for this by some of you, but I just don't feel the need. I do drink tons of water before and after each run, but I also barely sweat. I mean it could be 95 degrees outside, and I won't sweat a drop for 5-7 miles, while my husband is soaking wet after 3 minutes. Maybe I'm an alien...

This from Sierra.gov: "Bears, like dogs, do not have sweat glands. Because of this, they must cool themselves through other means."

I guess that means you are normal. For a mischka.

Someone called me normal! I'll take that as a compliment any day :#

Tommorow morning we have a group run scheduled at 5:15 AM. Supposed to be zero with windchill. Even my daughter's school has a delayed opening due to the cold. Should be fun. Cold and dark and out and about on streets is always fun. This route has also been known to have a coyote lurking around every so often in the morning.
