Unexpected results of weight loss

Was wondering (just for fun) what everyone's weight loss 'surprises' were - I mean, we all know we're going to finish looking awesome, fitter, and having to buy a new wardrobe of clothes :-) but what were the results of weight loss you didn't realise..?
I've still a little way to go but doing well - my two were:
- I didn't realise how long it would take my brain to catch up with my weight loss, e.g. for months in clothes shops I'd still pick up my old sizes (three sizes too big) to the changing rooms, then cause chaos with the shop staff having to swap them for me... Part of me still thinks that I haven't actually lost weight and the shops have just changed their sizing labels!
- I also didn't realise how bony my knees would get! They look fine but I sleep on my side and have to put some of the quilt between them because it freaks me out when I can feel the knee joints against each other!
Any others?!

Oh yes - I had that with the knees! I can't sleep in my old foetal position any more because of that!
The daftest one for me was when I tried to sweep some spilled dry rice off the kitchen counter into my cupped hand, and it all fell through the gaps between my fingers. I didn't used to have gaps!
Second daftest was having to get my glasses frames resized because they just kept falling off my face.88 -
once all my rings fell off, i thought i'd lost them, but i found them in my coat lining (curse the tiny pocket hole). i ended up buying a smaller ring to guard the larger one, and putting the others on different fingers.40

Oh so many, what a lovely idea for a thread!
- No more surgery for endometriosis ( I hope! Last scan showed a reduction in my left endometrioma to way below the size at which they cut them out - good news as this disease has seen me in terrible pain and having major ops!
- No more hives
- No more angiodema
- No more anaemia (the theory behind all this by the way is that excess fat leads to an over production of oestrogen which causes these sorts of heavy period and endometriosis and immune response probs)
- No more chub rub! No more raw thighs!
- No more cracked heels!
- No more asthma!
- Amazing, increased energy
- Men flirt with me again!!!!! I really thought I was beyond ever being sexually attractive to anyone
- New friends from sport
- New hobbies
- Whole new lifestyle
Basically my body and mind could not deal with being 4 st overweight and went into mental and physical meltdown!! It's beyond fabulous to be freed of that!216 - No more surgery for endometriosis ( I hope! Lack of thigh rub was a huge one for me. I actually like wearing dresses now. LOL!
Another is how much I'm freezing all the darn time.
And how much I love physical exercise
And how incredibly grumpy I get if I don't get my exercise in.
And for the TMI - I have endometriosis. The pain during my periods was insane, but now that I'm normal weight, the pain is gone.93 -
I agree with the brain not catching up thing. I look at myself and sometimes I somehow think I have lost no weight and the scale has somehow lied for about 58 pounds. XD
I'm the same with the knees thing, and my collar bone. Sometimes I sit here and I'm touching my collar bone and realizing what my body is supposed to look like and has never looked that way before my entire life (I've ALWAYS been chubby).80 -
Loving the resposes so far - glad it's not just me getting freaked out by my own knees! @Ooci what a great list - congrats on the weight loss and the amazing benefits :-)24

Snap snap snap. If only the doctors would really strictly say "lose weight and we won't need to be seeing you", rather than skirting round the issue as they do. However I blame no one but myself for the state I got in. It's fabulous to read another endo sufferer is managing it with weight

Oh goodness me too! I've been this weight before (in the distant past) but don't remember having a visible collar bone before. It's odd, but I like it!12 -
A lovely part of our bodies and deserving of pretty necklaces
Well done35 -
I discovered that I could wear high heels that used to ache and I would blame the design of the shoe but when I had lost my weight I realized I was so much lighter on my feet that it was no longer painful. That was a huge "oh yeah" moment.116

Love the responses.15

I get "drunk" sooner. I already feel "light headed" when I drink two glasses of wine.70

My bottom hurts when I sit on a hard seat. I can live with it though!60

My thighs have definitely changed. They feel much much firmer on the outside and the flabby inner bit has shrunk! My calves, which were ginormous, also look a lot slimmer to me.
I'm also still struggling to get my brain to catch up! My sizing hasn't changed drastically yet - I've dropped to a 14 from an 18 in tops, but trousers I'm still in 18s, though they're getting looser as time goes by. I'll really feel the difference once I drop to a 16 and then a 14 in trousers. I do wish my tummy would shrink more but it seems to be coming off my boobs, face and legs most of all.51 -
This is beautiful - what a happy way to start my day! You all totally rock!36

My confidence has returned, I am me again and I no longer feel that people are making a judgement about me based on my weight. I feel attractive.
My boots zip up, in fact I have almost too much room. My socks aren't tight and no longer leave marks at the end of the day.
I can do anything I want to. No longer thinking whether I am fit enough first. This has opened so many doors, rock climbing, abseiling, sking....
I was in the sales recently and picked up a UK size 12 and then thought cricket, that would be way to big.. made me so happy. I was a size 18-20 and now 8-10.94 -
Few typos. Skiing and crikey... Damn predictive text.20

I love this!!
The knees, my god.
Going to a restaurant and not worrying about being humiliated if I didn't fit in the booth, being freezing all the time (wearing hoodies because I'm legitimately freezing instead of the middle of summer because I'm self conscious about my body), collar bones.
Really the main one is the brain! I still have no idea how much space I take up and I always bring the wrong clothes into the dressing room. I still look at myself in the mirror knowing I've lost 115 pounds but I still see a 320 pound girl. Come on brain, you're killin me!103 -
I discovered that I really like clothes. I mean.... REALLY like clothes... My wife gave me the stink eye the other day when yet another box showed up from the UPS truck. There were no words to describe the loathing I had for clothes and shopping at 318lbs. It's a really interesting change.142

I work part-time in a retail store which sometimes requires a ladder to retrieve items from a high distance up. When I first started this job in 2013, I was very reluctant to climb the ladder, and when I did, I held on for dear life. I noticed quite recently that I can now climb the ladder with a lot more agility, which I did not have prior to the weight loss in 2014.50

I am looking forward to some of these posted here, especially the thigh rub, lol. I've lost 50+ but still have the flabby thighs.
Things that have stood out to me:
Being able to cross my legs comfortably. I used to only be able to cross at the ankles.
Being able to paint my toenails and see what I'm doing! No more clown feet.
My shoes are all too small. I didn't realize I was overcompensating for width with larger shoe sizes. I blamed bigger feet on pregnancies; they say its a thing. But with weight loss, my 8.5s are now nearly a full size too big.
Not dreading school field trips for fear of embarrassing my elementary school child.
Speaking of schools, being able to sit in those tiny little chairs that are like 6 inchess off the ground during parent teacher conferences. Have you done that? Awkward isn't it? Lol.64 -
Being able to cross my legs comfortably and actually feeling like I "need" to cross them to be comfy. Never used to happen.
Probably my favorite...fitting into booths so well. For awhile I felt like a bunch of restaurants suddenly replaced their tiny booths with huge ones.
Every bath tub being usable, or even roomy/comfy when I'm staying in hotels.
Finding out what people mean by clothes being too big. Sounds silly...but when I wore 2X, I would happily wear a 3X or 4X sweater if that was all they had available, and enjoy the roomy longer size. Now I see that an ill-fitting XL does me no favors and I'm better off with a slightly-snug M if they don't have my L.

hip flexibility--from working out more than weight loss--but it's really insane to go out dancing and be able to move around and not fall over lol. I can twerk now? not that I am, but I COULD.50
-
Fitting comfortably in an airplane seat with room on both sides as well as plenty of room for my legs.48
-
Very interesting surprises. For me the one that stands out was when I sat comfortably in a plastic chair without any fear that I could fall. I used to dread sitting in a plastic chair especially in public.42
-
I nearly had a panic attack recently thinking I had thyroid cancer or a large tumor in my neck.
Well no. I just don't have a bunch of neck fat covering my trachea.86 -

I don't hear my body "clapping" when I run up the stairs anymore!95
