People never cease to amaze me. This type of thing screams for a "do you even science, bro?" meme.0

Avocado is fruit, right? Count me in for avocadoitarianism.0

Well, she's not technically a fruitarian since she eats cooked carbs at night. I actually tried out this lifestyle out of curiosity and because so many people that I saw were achieving success on it. I did it for about a month but it was too extreme for me to continue and I was hungry ALL THE TIME, no matter how much fruit I ate (I would eat about 2200-2500 calories a day). So, good for those that are successful on it, but I don't think it's realistic for 90% of people!
Oh my god, how did you survive? I just can't imagine! I love fruit and all, but that would kill me and I wouldn't last even 3 days doing that.

I'm a fruitarian. I eat only fruit, nothing else and I feel pretty good! More energy, better digestion, improved dental health and weight loss (10 kg in 6 weeks to be exact).0

Really? So this is the way you are going to eat for the rest of your life. It does not sound very healthy.0 -

Good for you!
I personally love fruit, but I really enjoy having potatoes, rice, thick soups, veggie burgers,almonds...coffee... etc as well, so I think I would struggle to feel satisfied.

I couldn't sustain it. I have a family to cook for, and I feel better with higher protein levels than I could get on that diet. We are all still vegan and fruit makes up a big chunk of our diet though.

Oddly enough, many of the people I know who are highly educated and very fact-based in other aspects of their life, are militantly defensive and unfliching when it comes to whatever food/health ideology they adhere to. Counterintuitively, in my experience, that ideology is almost always not in agreement with current scientific knowledge on nutrition, and instead based on some internet nutritional guru's angry blog page or similar. It's very strange to me.
I also find it incredibly strange. Its like a religion or politics with people, they won't listen to reason and factual information because this way sounds best to them.
each other's beliefs about eating looks like religion and politics arguments. And, no one is every swayed.
This is very true!0 -
At first glance this seems a little crazy to me. But, I don't really know enough about it to make an informed decision, other than it would not be a diet I'd want to try. I like fresh picked fruit, but I don't eat amuch fruit when it's not in season here. I much prefer vegetables to fruit.0

Personally I think it's disordered eating with it's roots there as well.0

Just read up on Freelee the banana girl. How the hell could anyone say they eat 3.5kg of potatoes in one sitting?! I'd be throwing up if I tried to eat anything in that amount. And I can EAT.0

People that want to put themselves through that kind of extreme eating are welcome to do it.

Anyway, my opinion on fruitarianism:
If you can sustain it and it feels good, go for it. I personally would never do it because I enjoy traditional foods and eating them in moderation. I get a humbled feeling when I have bacon with my breakfast. I like fruit from time to time. I like to eat pasta dinners sometimes with my family and I enjoy the big colorful salad with oil and vinegar that we put on the table. I like to have dessert after dinner and for snack sometimes. I like to try new foods, but I know that if nothing looks appealing on the menu, I'm pretty safe with a salad or a cup of french onion soup. I think a fruitarian diet is unnecessary for weight loss, as a deficit will normally do the trick, assuming that someone does not have a medical condition that would prevent them from losing weight with a deficit.
Freelee has a pretty nice body and I wanted mine to look like that when I was in my sophomore year of high school, but I've come to accept I will never have that because of genetics and the differences among us physically. Not even a diet of just fruit would give me that body because it is impossible for me. And I am okay with that.

I know he had a very hard time finding foods that didn't make him sick after the cancer progressed to a certain point. I don't know if that had happened by the time he went fruititarian, but if so it's possible fruit was one of the easier foods for him to eat. That would at least be a decent reason to give it a try - although he should have known that eventually he'd get even more sick if he didn't find a way to balance his diet.0 -

Oy. Well, it was the 70s. Seemed like there was more unwarranted stupidity floating around in that decade than most.0 -
I think it's a good way to know that someone is crazy/drama and you should probably avoid them.0

People who fling themselves and their bodies into insane new diets usually do have their share of drama. It can be fun to be their friend online if you can stand the vagueposting.0 -
About 30 years ago I saw an article in Strength and Fitness about a Breatheairian. He claimed it was the ultimate lifestyle. When I worked at a psych hospital in the 60s we had a patient who explained that she didn't need to eat because she could photosynthesize like the trees. Those two lifestyles didn't work out too well either.0
