Unexpected results of weight loss

When I see people I haven't seen in a while, they don't recognise me. One was a relative on my husbands side. When I said, "hi" in the supermarket she replied "do I know you" her jaw nearly hit the floor when I told her who I was.7

I haven't lost all my weight yet (about halfway to my weight goal) but a few things I've noticed:
-Less lower back pain from standing up or even sitting down
-No moisture outline of my butt after sitting down on a plastic chair (sitting down is also painful after a little while because of less padding from fat)
-More energy
-Can see my trachea and jawline much easier now5 -
I just remembered another one -- going to the doctor's office and when they ask "what medications are you on" and I say "none," I always get a look of surprise, and then they say: "None?"
It makes me feel super healthy.
I JUST had this happen! It's like they are so surprised to have someone in their office that isn't on a regular medication of some kind. Crazy isn't it?
This and the fact that the doctor asks me how I have lost the weight and tells me I need to give a class. I also don't fear going to the doctor because they are going to make me get on the scale and see that horrible number.7 -
my husband said he can tell I am gaining confidence, and putting more effort into my clothes and such. I had not realized, but he is right. I make more effort each day to look my best.7

- I can fit into some really high quality second hand clothes. The designer boutique is called "My Old Wardrobe". Silk dresses, leather skirts, pant and skirt suits, outerwear, an embarrassing number of skinny jeans... a small fortune.
- My body can do things now that I could never do before! Like carry heavy groceries or bicycle for hours without stop.
- I don't tire so easily. Even going downstairs to get groceries in the store seemed like such a task, now I do everyday stuff with ease.
- I've kinda replaced my food addiction with gym wares. Sadly all the athletic wear I bought 6-12 months ago are now too big. Even the undies I bought 2 weeks ago, went sliding downwards today.
- I can tie my shoelaces without tummy feeling like a big obstacle.
- Spontaneously I run at times where I used to walk (slowly).
- I've always had a bit of a complex for my big arms. Can see now that underneath some vanity fat, the biceps have grown!
- I can wear a custom made inherited ring my aunt gave me.
- Guys are hitting on me.
- One of my cycling instructors not only urged me to apply for a job in the business, but sent me contact info as well.
Mental:
- Feel more in control. I'm repairing my relationship with food. It's not a substance I should use to abuse myself with. Food is not a "comfort" in place of having painful feelings.
- I enjoy pressuring myself now at the gym or outdoors. I love the smell of the woods and fresh air.
- I'm a survivor that has been too self-reliant. Dieting has taught me that asking for help sometimes is ok too.
- The dieting process has also taught me to be humble and grateful for the tiniest successes in life and to appreciate when my body functions as it should.
- I'm kinder to myself. Even when I'm having bad days, I don't wanna shame myself anymore. Shame is toxic. I can't change the past. I can only change the present and the future.
I love this entire post. Good for you! (*)1 -
With 80 lbs lost, it is not a struggle to get out of the car door now.9

I so agree with this. I feel the same way. In my mind I still see myself as fat and I love my new found collar bone :disagree:1

I was still trying to wear my old robe but the openings at the sleeves are so much bigger than my arms now that I lit it on fire while cooking.14

Being head hunted on Southwest flights.
They let you sit anywhere, no assigned seats. Last time I flew, somebody made eye contact and begged me to sit with them because I was "small and wouldn't squish them." I was so flattered that I sat with them.... my husband wasn't too pleased.8 -

Phone numbers, and clocked in a one hit knock out last time someone tried to pick a fight with me.2 -

Haha - I was on a plane last week and was thinking how just a year ago I was TOTALLY that guy you didn't want to see coming down the aisle, looking at your row...

People are starting to ask how I am steadily losing the weight! It's funny explaining to them and hearing them say they don't have time for that.8

Wow these are all amazing!!!!!! I am looking forward to a bunch of them but can't say I'm there yet! The one surprise for me is how quickly I notice my face looking slimmer - I didn't think it was chubby! But apparently it was!4
-
I'm only down 20 and have 20 more to go to goal. So far...
My rings, they all fall off my hands
My socks don't leave indents on my leg
Also I didn't expect to lose so much boob
The amount my aunt wants to talk about how FAT I was in front of people. At the most inappropriate times, and to the most inappropriate people.4 -
Booking a holiday because I am not scared I won't fit on the plane, being able to get my wedding ring off for the first time in 18 years and realising that I have a dip along my thigh rather than a bulge!! Still got a way to go but 88 pounds off has meant a whole new wardrobe!!8

- My hips don't crack when I stand up anymore.
- My lower back pain is gone.
- Looking at parts of my body and being shocked - they don't seem like mine.
- That when you get smaller losing sizes happens faster. (Going from a size 20 to a size 18 was like 25 pounds. Going from a 18 to a 16 was only like 15 pounds. I would imagine that the lower you get a single size could be just 5 pounds.)

Isn't that the truth! I just noticed today that I dropped from a 6 to a 4, and I am only about 7ish pounds (maybe as many as 9?) down from my weight when I bought the size 6's!!1 -
I have so many of these same things! I am also constantly cold but on the flip side, I don't get hot as easily when I'm outside in the summer! Also can't wait to update the weight on my drivers license since I'm 20lbs under what mine says. I'm getting it updated when I hit my goal weight - I don't care if it's off cycle or I have to lie and say I lost it somewhere

My husband put his hand on my side and, with concern, asked, "What's that?" It was my hip bone, newly emerged, lol.3

My big surprise is that I actually enjoy running now. I was always a fan of lifting but running was something "thinner people do", you know because "I didnt have a runners body". Well, turns out I was just lying to myself because it was easier than trying. I now run because I want to and I feel completely free and detached from the noise of the world for a bit and the sound of my feet hitting the ground is so cathartic.
One last thing - Try this if you can, it'll shock you. I put my weight vest on and added additional weight packets in so I was back up to where I was when I started (I'm down a little over 30 lbs at this point) and I tried to go for one of my normal runs. Holy Crap! The feeling of running at my prior weight compared to now was absolutely mind blowing.21 -

This one is my favorite!! This is my personal goal along with fitting back into my wedding dress for our 20th anniversary this August. This thread has inspired me and I can't wait to read more!4 -

I can't even begin to imagine trying to run carrying over 100 extra pounds on me. I consider myself pretty fit and healthy now but it would kill me to try to run carrying that weight. No wonder it was so hard to even jog when I first started losing weight.

CObluegrass wrote: »love this thread and I can identify with so many of these. My two biggest surprises:
1) I work at a university and attend graduation every semester in my cap and gown. Well my head shrunk 1/2 an inch and I had to buy a new cap. 1/2 an inch of fat around my forehead!!
2) no more cracked heels! here I thought my horribly cracked heels were the result of dry skin and living in an arid climate. Nope, turns out it was just the pressure of all of my weight.
Oh my god is this actually a thing?! There is hope yet! My boyfriend keeps calling me my little pony names because my feet are like hooves -_-

I have lost over 100#s and did farmer's carries in the gym the other day with 110#s, how the heck did I walk around like that all the time? It is crazy when you think of it that way.8 -
I discovered that I really like clothes. I mean.... REALLY like clothes... My wife gave me the stink eye the other day when yet another box showed up from the UPS truck. There were no words to describe the loathing I had for clothes and shopping at 318lbs. It's a really interesting change.
This and mentioning the "fitting in a booth", no longer having to worry about that.
Flying and not needing a seat extender or fitting comfortably into airplane seats.
Seeing myself in a reflection surrounded by people and thinking "my goodness, I really am a small person" (I am 5'9) and loving that feeling.

Being all, yeah, I just noticed I had dropped a size... that is AWESOME.1 -

^^I agree! Congratulations, that is awesome0 -
Good thread. The only new one I could add was I noticed all the sleeves on my shirts got longer. 379 - 296 lbs made the sleeves on my coat almost 2 inches longer (back fat mostly).4

I am down over 40 pounds and I have seen a lot of changes, but the one I"m currently enjoying is being able to do moves in Pilates that I was never able to before. The less weight there is to lift, the easier bits become.
On the negative side, I have developed bursitis in my knee, probably from too much road cycling, which just shows that fitness has nothing to do with injury levels...0
