FireRunners (C25K May 9th group) Week 1!!

Just finished day 1! Oh my goodness that was challenging, especially with the added bonus of pushing a stroller, too. I just barely finished it. May need to do a couple weeks of week 1, hahaha.0
-
Glad everybody likes the name! I had a hard time coming up with a good one lol
I haven't signed up for a 5K because I want to make sure I'm able to run it easily before committing... Don't want to injure myself in the process, just want to take this at my own pace
@htuzzi--WOW, my hat goes off to you! I couldn't do that with a stroller lol!0 -
Welcome and great job/advice everyone! Just a question; do you think we should ever close this group or just leave it open for anyone who wants to complete a 5K this summer?
Well, I think the more the merrier! However, if the thread each week is filled with new people wanting to join, I think we might get too cluttered pretty fast, and after a while the ones starting fresh will be way behind..
I would say, keep it open for the first 2-3 weeks and maybe then close it?0 -
@htuzzi--WOW, my hat goes off to you! I couldn't do that with a stroller lol!
...and the things that are jiggling now make me feel a bit ill to think about ...blehh.0 -
@wildmustng--I like that idea of closing it after week 2 or 3. We'll see how it goes.
@htuzzi--Hahaha awww, I feel ya Your son is sooooooo cute btw!0 -
I'd like to join this group. I'm using Cool-Running's walk/run method to train for a
10K in 8 months. Right now I'm at 50" (mixed walking and running) and I've had
no injuries. Right now, I only run every other day and once I get to 60" straight
running, will start to gradually add running to my "off days".
A couple of things I've learned.
#1. If it hurts. Stop. Walk. There is no point in injuring your self.
#2. Spend some time shopping and get some good shoes. Make sure they
are comfy, have lots of support and lots of cushion.
#3. For the Ladies. Get the best sports bra you can find. There are many discussions
on MFP re: sports bras. Two that are mentioned as fab are the "Ta Ta Tamer" by Lululemon
and bras made by Enell. There are others I'm sure. I use the Ta Ta Tamer and love them
(I'm a D) and used to bounce all over the place with my other sports bras.
If you can use a heart-rate monitor, that will be another good tool to monitor your intensity,
fatigue and over-all fitness.
You're gonna love it.0 -
I am probably late on this topic, But I started this program a couple of weeks ago and I am on Week 3 Day 1. This app is pretty awesome. For a person who hates to run this is a good begineers training app and just right for me. Please add me and I can help motivate. Good Luck to all. ~Chika0

id love to join! please count me in!0

love the name! and i'm gonna hit the gym in a little bit to get my first day in
and also, just in case anyone is interested, i found this link with the c25k schedule broken down in treadmill intervals (if you didn't have a playlist or podcast to follow and wanted a super easy schedule to follow) & there is also a schedule on there with metric conversions if anyone is interested in that. AND it suggests different c25k podcasts, and there's inspirational stuff and whatnot on there too! http://www.c25k.com/
hope everyone FIRES through this first day!
p.s. excuse my slight name change - went from "soxtonguetied" to "x_sotonguetied"0 -
If it's not too late- I'm in too! I started this before and didn't make it past Week 2- I just didn't have the motivation in January. Now that I'm closer to my goal weight and it's almost bikini/shorts season, I have a little more motivation!
I am about to complete Week 2- but I did the first 2 weeks in 6 days. I'm sure that as the runs get harder, I will spend more time on each week before I move on to the next week. I have hated running my entire life and have always made excuses not to run. It is just a good feeling getting through the first couple weeks! The later weeks absolutely terrify me though!
Oh, don't worry about the later weeks. They are actually more fun. The run/walk method gradually increases
your fitness level. If you find you are in pain, or "whatever', just do another day(s) or week(s) at the pace
you are comfortable.
I used to hate running also. Good equipment is SOoooOOOOO important. (Bra and Shoes!).
Hang in there. There's nothing like running to get the hips and thighs ready for the bikini. You can do this.0 -
Welcome everyone! I will continue to add people until it gets too full or we're just too far into the program to add more people; I'll probably close the group in a couple weeks, but for now, the more the merrier!0
-
I did mine already today . I am so amped for this!!!! It is a little tough though but hang in there.....WE can do this!!!!0
-
Yep! Great job!
Boy are my legs aching... Owwwwww :P Advice: pick up some pain reliever today... lol. You may need it!0 -
I decided to give this a try yesterday (c25k) and it about killed me but I am going to try to stick with it!! I would love to be able to run! I also found a 5k that I would love to participate in this fall if I make it through. I am brand new to running. I have bad knees but have a brace to help. Please count me into the group. This will give me more motivation to stick to it!! ~love the name~0

Well done to everyone who has started, one session down already! I did Week 1 Day 1 on Sunday and found it okay, I've downloaded the podcasts from runningintoshape and will hopefully be doing Day 2 tomorrow. My running days will hopefully be Sun/Tues/Fri, so I can have rest days and still fit in my Zumba class on a Thursday.
I'm really looking forward to getting out again, haven't booked a 5k yet as I want to get to the end of C25K first, but will find one once I'm there!0 -
I would love to join too! Thanks0
-
Just got in from doing week 1 day 1.
Weird, but the interval training seems to make it harder (or maybe I'm a wuss today!) than my usual jog (roughly same distance).
Going to stick with it though as I've never been able to run more than about 2k at my fittest and I am trusting that there is some kind of magic to this which will get me up to the 5k distance.0 -
Welcome newbies!
And yeah, this definitely isn't a piece of cake. It really takes some focus and determination, but it's worth it!0 -
So I bought the GPS add on with the iPhone app, and as far as I can tell it's very accurate, so I definetly think its worth the buck so u know how fast and how far you go, there is also a map that shows I where u went and a 1 mile marker stating how long it took to get there, so that's kinda a mini challenge in it self to beat. ... Have fun running¡!
Which app did you get?0 -
hey everyone just wanted to check in! i'm working on a final project for school right now but once i'm done i'm gonna go do week 1 day 1!
Anyone feel free to add me as support :flowerforyou:0 -
whew, day one is complete, it is a bit toasty outside but I made it all the way! HRM said I burned 403 calories!! Yipee, and did I hear tell that this is good for the thighs and hips??? I need that lordy was I blessed with "child bearing" hips, but I have my kids so now they need to go!0
-
OK, completed day 1/week 1 and said I only burned 37 calories....Please tell me my monitor is not functioning correctly....It is new and I just programmed it today...I will check it out before Wednesday....Really hoping it is wrong because I am one tired puppy....Going to really have to motivate myself for this....0
-
So proud of you guys! ^_^ Can't wait to see everyone else check in!0

Hello all - I'd love to join this group if that's okay... I did Week 1 Day 1 this afternoon, and was very proud of myself for getting through it without pausing. I feel it's likely I may have to repeat some of the weeks, but I'm not going to worry about that, and just take each workout as it comes.
I'm using the "Get Running" app for iPhone ($1.99 - lovely British woman's voice encouraging you on, easy to read interface, I like it)
I'm doing the program outdoors, with my dog on the leash with me, and plan to bring my kids along for the workout sometimes as well.
And since I like to get at least 60 minutes of uninterrupted cardio on cardio days, I got onto the elliptical machine after the day's C25K training so I could finish out the hour.
HRM gave me 433 calories for the C25K part of today's workout hour.
Looking forward to the second Week 1 session!0 -
I would love to join this! I just downloaded the app on my phone last night to start this tonight!! I am so not a runner, hope this helps!
Its really good to get you to start running, its very well set out, stick with it you will do great.0 -
So proud of you guys! ^_^ Can't wait to see everyone else check in!
Hello I would love to join the group. I got to week 3 month or so ago and then let it slide so this will be my kick start again!!0 -
I love the name and it is truly fitting! Day 1 and we are on FIRE! I can't wait to pound the pavement after work. It is super hot today in Houston so I hope I don't pass out!0
-
WOO day 1 week 1 - complete. feelin great0
-
Getting ready to go out and get Day 1 done!
Question though; How are you guys logging it on here?
I don't have a heart rate monitor yet, though I would love to get one. Any suggestions on a decent one that is $30 or less? (I have a tight budget and $30 is really pushing it, so I can't really go any higher.) Thanks!0 -
61 members, woooot!! Never thought my desire to get moving would get 60 other people off their rumps as well haha :bigsmile:0
