Nasty icy rain last night; hoping tonight will be clear for me to take the dogs out for a quick mile run around the neighborhood. I'm very impressed with how many of y'all can run in the cold weather. I'm learning - but wow; my lungs miss the warm dry desert for running. Although, I must admit they don't miss the dust.0

I hit my goal of 25 miles last month, actually hit 27, so I will up it a little this month and go for 30.
2/4/2015 - 1.25mi
2/5/2015 - 1.67mi
2/6/2015 - 0.63mi
2/7/2015 - 1.83mi
2/10/2015 - 1.75
Total so far 7.13 so I am a little behind. I will try to make it up this weekend.0 -
2/1 - 2/6 no running
2/7 - 2.1 miles
2/8 - 2.1 miles
2/9 - PT day so I didn't run
2/10 - 2.1 miles (amount allowed by PT)
6.3 miles out of 40
If I run 3 more days before Friday pain free I can run 3 miles starting on Saturday :-) My injury is pain free but my hamstrings are talking to me. I'm in love with my foam roller the past 2 days. I'm actually running 2.14 (to be exact lol) PT said 2 and no more when I told him I ran 2.14 he said what happened to 2 and no more I said well I had to get back down the street to my house. He said did you consider walking? I just looked at him and said "honestly that thought never crossed my mind". He's a big time runner so he just laughed and said okay only 2 days of PT this week because I KNOW you'll do your exercises at home. He has a new guy working with him and said "I love runners you know they will do their exercises you never have to get on them." Then he looked at me and said "Kathie how many sets of clam shells are you supposed to do" I said "2 sets of 10", he said how many are you doing "I smiled and said 3 sets of 10". He just smiled and said "I rest my case".

I totally mis-paced my long run today. Today was really great weather, 40F warm and sunny, and I enthusiastically took of way too fast. I noticed that at the halfway point, where I had to climb a set of stairs (~90 feet altitude in 0.3 miles), ended up walking more than half of those. The rest of the way home was real slow after that...
It took me 33:30 for the first 5km; then 41:00 minutes for the next 5km. Guess next time I should check my pace a few times during the run!
1.2.2015 - 9.0 km
4.2.2015 - 3.8 km
6.2.2015 - 5.2 km
7.2.2015 - 3.6 km
8.2.2015 - 11.4 km
33 km (of 100 km) done
It was a 200ft street hill, 13.5% grade. It was as nasty as it looked on the chart0 -

I worked on upping my cadence today. My last run averaged 162 strides per minute. This one averaged 167.
It was pretty harsh on my shins at first. Heck, it was somewhat harsh keeping that cadence the whole way, but it became easier after the 2nd mile.
My "Running Smoothness" suffered though. That is some measure from this HRM/App about your movements along all 3 axis as you run, evaluating your form. I averaged a 57 today...despite trying to focus on my stride and form the whole way!
I honestly do not feel any worse for the change, and towards the end I began feeling how it was more efficient. I think I will definitely continue working on this.0 -
@Lesleycali - I was living in Italy when I first signed up for mfp, but now we are in New England… we lived in SoCal for a couple of years also, I know exactly what you mean about the drivers… those crazy on/off ramps to the highway and forgetabout rainy days!
2/1: Superbowl Sunday! no run
2/2: 6 miles on treadmill… struggled with this one but got it done
2/3: 3 miles treadmill
2/4: 3 miles… hopping between the ice on the road…and hills, ugh!
2/5: 3 miles treadmill
2/6: rest… full day of really resting…ahhhhh
2/7: 3 mile treadmill… really wish I had time to go longer….
2/8: 3 miles treadmill…. celebrated my twins birthday today 6y.o.! Fun but glad it is over!
2/9: 6 miles treadmill… much better than expected, love that!
2/10: 3 miles treadmill…snooze
Kids are back in school at least but the roads are too slushy (for me) to run on.
Total miles in February: 30
Miles to goal: 40
Goal: 70 miles0 -
Feb 7 - 3 miles
Feb 9 - 2 miles

I love my foam roller too. I usually have my iPad with my Kindle book on a table near by and I read something and that keeps me foaming (or rolling?) longer than I probably would.
3 miles on Saturday! Woot!

@terricherry2 Nice- you know you're ready for more when you can increase both pace and distance and still feel great!
@jessupbrady I was surprised at how quickly we acclimate to the cooler temps. Last fall I thought 30°F was freezing but today 28°F felt nice. It might take you longer coming from somewhere warm like the dessert, but you can do this!
@skippygirlsmom Doing extra PT so you can run again sooner and walking??? Really who does that?

This is where I got to do some speed work today

@autumnblade75 - 1/4 of the way through the month and almost 1/4 of the way through your elevation- you're really working to pull this off. I'm rooting for you- keep it up!
I feel bad to let you down. I did something to my ankle and I'm going to take some time off to let that heal. I have a race at the end of March, and I hope I'll get to do some training for that - so I'd better back off now, instead of just pushing though and really screwing it up. I'll have to do some more hill workouts when I come back.
Seriously, every time I get up to more than 12 miles per week, I injure myself. After 4 years, you'd think I could build up to more than 12 miles, right? C'mon! This is ridiculous. So, when I start back from scratch, what's 10% of 0, so I go slow enough adding on the miles? I hate that I'm having such a hard time with this.
