I compete in drug tested federations (and am one of a 'natty' team of bb'ers and pl'ers), so throwing out accusations of being on gear probably miss my sarcasm meter more than other comments do.I compete in drug tested federations (and am one of a 'natty' team of bb'ers and pl'ers), so throwing out accusations of being on gear probably miss my sarcasm meter more than other comments do.
eh. wasn't an accusation- that makes it sound like I thought it was wrong- when I just don't. I have no issues with people on gear. It's an openly free subject for jokes to me. Sorry you don't feel the same. NMP.
Semantics.
Also...assumptions.

Yeah, coffee helps in engaging the brain for me too, so probably a good rule to have.

I have been doing arm and leg weights for about a year now. Really enjoy it and love the results I have got from it.
As I have been doing it for a while now I recently increased the frequency and weights I am doing. For about two months now I have been doing weights 5 days a week for about an hour each time. I have put on about 5 pounds and my measurements are getting bigger too. This isn't what i was hoping to achieve!
Do you think it's because 5 days a week is too much? Or is it because the weighs I'm using are heavier? I know women shouldn't bulk up from doing weights but is it maybe better to use lower weights and do more reps as opposed to heavier weights and fewer reps?
I'll just leave this here...

Staci on the right is 11 Lbs heavier than the picture on the left...because she got so "bulky" power lifting.
Also remember that "heavy" is relative and doesn't necessarily describe the actual weight being lifted...it is descriptive of the rep range. Typically "heavy" means strength training (not in the general sense...but actual strength training) which is generally done in the 1-6 rep range, usually at 80% + of your 1 RM0 -

she needs to spend more time in the laundry room and less time I the gym ....waaaaayyy too bulky...0 -
As heavy as you can. Max it out. If your measurements are getting bigger you might be eating at too high of a surplus.0

I know. It's like my 4 plates on each side are just so pathetic.0 -

Though I've hit a bit of a weight loss plateau these past 6 months, I'm trying to figure out ways of incorporating more cardio into my life and maybe changing things up... definitely need to work on the diet part of my weight loss. Ugh. But I don't think I could ever give up lifting, addicted... thoroughly addicted.
Do what you want, do what makes you feel good and the rest will fall into place. It feels good to be strong, I'll take that any day.
In 8-9 months? My guess would be leg press - but even that would be 665 lb total (assuming a 125 lb sled). I'm not believing this one either. In fact, I'm less inclined to believe this than the other.0 -

I love to lift heavy. I like the feeling of strength it gives me. I don't want to look thin, I want to look 'fit'. Having muscles is a great way to burn calories and increase your metabolism.
I personally couldn't lift 5 days a week. It takes me more than a day to recover so I cant do consecutive days. I am in the process of dealing with the reason I get DOMS so badly with nutrition and supplements. I mix heavy lifting with circuits and boxercise. I'm also running. Running is not my usual exercise of choice but I have a charity race in July. I am discovering it's a great calorie burner but I'm not sure if it fits with my strength training.
If you like to lift but you're worried that you are making too much of a gain, I wonder if you'd enjoy something with a bit of weight but also cardio, like circuits or crossfit? Might be worth looking into getting a bit of variety?
Agreed with this lady! The only time I gained any weight is when I was purposely trying (i.e. eating more calories). In fact doing Crossfit and Orange Theory has made me lost weight (not purposely) and I lift a good amount of weights.
I can fluctuate anywhere from 3-5 weeks on a given week due to water retention, etc.. It doesn't last and it definitely doesn't come from lifting weights.

Someone asked if she meant 1 rep and 6 reps, which makes more sense.0 -

Do you mean you went from 1 rep with 45lbs each side to 6 reps at 45lbs each side?
Oh, that makes more sense. But I doubt that's smoking any guys away.0 -

I think someone told me I was the most condescending person on this forum- because of posts made pre-coffee.
My filter is just- really really low at that point.
I shouldn't be allowed to speak to anyone before 930- even 9 is pushing it.0 -
