What nobody tells you about losing weight

You can use a regular sized towel when you get out of the shower...and it is one of the best NSVs!20

how simple it really is.31

If an important part of your exercise regime is brisk walking the dog, the dog will lose weight too.65

I lost 167 pounds kept it off for two years now I have gained sixty back and the reality of how I look was on vacation with friends and photos. Just when my mind got used to my body looking good I got fat again.
Reaching out for support. My fat friends hated when I lost the weight but my boyfriend never knew me before. The world treats you so different based on your weight. Nobody tells you that. Invisible fat ; resented thinner.

And/or find someone with a sewing machine & ask them to take in your pants.
It's not all that hard (depending on how they're constructed).
There are tailoring shops that will do this, but I have no idea how much they cost.
I'd be happy to help people in the greater Milwaukee area (would appreciate a little bit of money
toward gas & supplies, but that's not absolutely necessary). Have thread, will travel. I'll come to you,
or we can meet someplace public where I can plug in the machine & you can try on the clothes.
The uniform pants I'd been wearing for a couple years before I started seriously losing weight
have now been taken in about 12" in the waist & there's no way I can do any more, so I bought
new ones recently... in a M instead of a 2XL!!! Granted, the M is a bit tight right now, but I still
have 40 lb to go, so they'll be comfortably loose before too much longer.

While it's flattering to get compliments, I've found the more weight I've lost, the more embarrassing it's been to reveal how much I've lost in total. When I had lost 40-50 lbs, I proudly stated that number whenever asked. Now, I've lost over 90 lbs and if someone asks, I just say something like "I've lost a little" and try to deflect from giving a precise answer.
Why do you think that is? Because then they know more precisely how overweight you were?6 -
+ You realize you don't need to go into the handicap stall in the bathroom any more to feel like you have enough room. Strange things like that.
I am so glad to see I'm not the only one that uses the handicap stall. I try to make myself feel better by saying I'm claustrophobic but in reality it's because I'm too damn fat!4 -

.the thought of getting up at 6:00 before work to hit the gym sounds just awful
after-work crowd. And as a plus, my closest co-worker can't tell me I stink, because I've
just had a shower & deodorant. (I didn't stink anyway, but if she does it again I'll know that
she's just being mean, and I can go to HR.)
.the craters on my feet were from the extra weight, not dryness
I just realized that this past winter I really didn't have trouble with my feet cracking, even
though I didn't moisturize like I usually do.
.being overweight (especially obese) is a handicap. you try fitting a BIG badonkadonk in a little itty bitty stall
But you're right. When I was really huge, I almost couldn't close the door in the normal
bathroom stallls because there wasn't room to get my body out of the way.
.if there is a disabled lady waiting for a stall, I would certainly leave the handicap stall open for her, but only in the same way as I would encourage an elderly lady to go ahead of me in line
to get clothes out of the way, transfer to the toilet, etc., so even if she's in line I'd let her jump
the line to get to the larger stall, rather than wait her turn.
.People used to wait for me to finish going up or down the stairs, like there wouldn't be enough room for both of us2 -
-it only takes six months to gain back what took two years to lose
-you don't realize how good eating healthy makes you feel until you stop doing it26 -
my contribution:
pros:
how insanely strong and proud you will feel. quit smoking and i lost and kept off 80lbs for over a year and a half now, i know i can do anything i set my mind to. anytime i am having
a weak moment i go "WOW. I DID THAT"
also, sleeping better, i had terrible sleep problems when i was overweight
cons:
how so many people you expected to be happy for you, might not be, and especially when you keep it off.
cant tell you how many people i knew when i started to lose would just stop by with crap for me, and when i put my foot down, they disappeared. now when i see them around i hear lovely things like "wow, so you really kept the weight off"
easy way to CUT THE FAT in your life *wink wink* see what i did there?!

I've had people whom I hadn't seen in a few months act surprised that I was still small. I'm thinking "It's only been 8 months of maintenance, people. How fat did you think I was going to get?!!"
Yes! A lot of people think you just go back to your old eating habits after you lose weight, because that's what they would do. Like no, I worked this hard for a reason, I'm keeping it off!

You definitely feel the cold more.
Dieting is boring, but the results arent.12 -

The best thing about losing weight for me is my back pain is gone. It used to hurt all the time. I even saw a chiropractor every other week but now I don't need to.17

Also, i am SO sick and tired of explaining to people that i will not be GAINING muscle or looking like a man with the amount of cals i eat. Just because I lift does not mean i will be bulky and veiny. So frustrating.
Usually they're very uneducated on what that muscle will look like... the idea of a "healthy, thin" woman is usually one with the muscles you'll get from lifting and strength training, not a wispy woman--but when the idea of weights are introduced, people just get all confused. Do what makes you happy, it's your body after all

Nobody tells you about how some of the people who cheered you on when you started to lose weight become jealous and cold when the weight actually does come off... Like they expected you to fail or something, and it's magically your fault that your victory makes them feel bad18

^^^^This! Especially the ones who started along with you and fell by the wayside, while you continued. They'll stop by with cake or bring you candy or a special treat and hang around waiting for you to eat it. So aggravating! I learned how to say 'no thanks' graciously and after a while they stop.13 -
I was definitely not prepared for the weird backlash I got from a lot of people for losing weight. Apparently some people take it as a personal insult when you try to improve your own health. Huh. Go figure.12

Not so much an insult, but jealousy . . . . .6 -
crazygooselady wrote: »They don't tell you that it starts to feel good to be a little hungry, and that eating amounts of what you used to eat will make you feel I'll.
Sooo true. Was actually thinking about that the other day... I forgot what being hungry felt like! I used to be a grazer, so there was always something going down the hatch, and there would be days I would kind of long for that feeling. I see it as a sign of improvement now instead of something negative!6 -
I was surprised to find out that lifestyle changes really affect the way I feel. I used to feel blah all the time. Now I actually feel crappy when I miss workouts, eat out a lot during the week, overeat, or sleep poorly. Before I could abuse my health and not notice a difference. Now I notice right away if I'm veering too far off track.14

TMI here, but I spend a lot more time in the bathroom (not diarrhea, but just more frequent BM's up to 5 times a day) and my lower back is in so much pain all the time.3
-
...that I'm glad most of my friends are guys, cause I didn't know women resenting/being jealous of other women for losing weight was a thing.
That I'd spend so much time looking at myself in the mirror, lol. Not a vanity thing...more out of disbelief like "wait, that's me? Holy crap!"
That the junk food I used to consume fairly regularly will now make me sick as anything. I scarfed down 4 slices of pizza one night and felt so sick the next day I could barely eat.5 -
I had to buy a new belt. Not just because my other one was too big but because it looked terrible. Before I wouldn't notice how terrible I looked because my gut was hanging over it anyway19

I've only lost 46lbs so not much, but so far:
Negative
- my mother in law is threatened by my loss and is telling me I'm about to fade away and to stop now (I'm still 90-100lbs overweight and morbidly obese!)
- no one at all can tell I have lost any weight. I have to tell them and they look surprised
- the baggy skin isn't on my stomach, it's all on my inner thighs and it looks terrible
Positive
- my skin looks glorious
- I get asked for ID when buying my husband some wine (I'm 32 and haven't been asked for many years)
- my boobs haven't shrunk much at all
- my period is morr regular
- walking makes me feel awesome rather than tired
- confidence when talking to others
- men in shops will smile and ask me how my day is going now21 -

How awesome it is to look at the promotional pictures at the gym and think "in a few months I could look like that".
How runny your poo gets if you eat loads of veggies
To be honest my poo hasnt been fluffier xD
This is news to me. I didn't even know girls did that... especially pretty ones.
Hahaha. You sound just like a friend of mine this morning. I told him well ok I don't poo but I damn sure sparkle!2 -
Some one asked me today if i was sick since I had lost so much weight. I still have about 20 pounds before i reach my goal.4
