Just quickly popping in tonight. A good day but I am tired today for some reason. I spent time with my brother and niece today so I think the lack of major activity took it's toll on my energy level today. Tonight was rock climbing and that just felt good so hopefully my arms will recover by tomorrow morning's swim practice. If not it will be a short swim. I am one step closer to finding a top to wear for the triathlon, tomorrow I will go to a couple of more stores to see what I can find.

Next week I have to go on a liquid diet for a few days before a medical test. Any suggestions what I should "go on"?

@laurie--good luck with the clothes shopping. I know how important comfy workout clothes are. I'm sure it's even more challenging to find something comfortable and functional for the quick changes during a triathlon.

@kelley--I already went through my PCP for the referral, so it is the specialist I will see in 6 weeks. There are a number of other doctors on my referral sheet, so I plan to call back next week and see if I can get in to a different doctor sooner. I was in the car driving when the office called me to schedule the appt. so I couldn't really look at the locations at the time.

@holly--good to see you back! Yes, I'm very excited to teach the public speaking course.

@tanya--I will eat pretty much any kind of meat or fish, but if it's not prepared and I'm hungry, I will go for something that's easier/faster to cook. So my biggest obstacle is just me not planning ahead. I just took some fish out of the freezer to thaw so I can prepare it for my lunch during the work week. I also like a lot of the foods you mentioned--eggs, quinoa, hummus. I've never used protein powder. I'm not much of a fan of smoothies, and I don't bake, so I'm not sure I would really use it all that much. I never thought of putting it in my yogurt. Does it change the flavor or consistency?

    Friday Fitness:
This morning I got a text from a friend inviting me to meet him and some other friends for lunch, so I headed to starbucks, graded a few papers, then went to lunch. By the time I got home it was around 2:30, but I still needed to grade some more and go to the gym. I knew if I graded and came back home, I would have a hard time getting my butt back out the door to the gym, so I took my workout clothes along and went straight to the gym after grading.

I didn't want to push my knee that has felt funny all week, so I did an interval program that consists of fast walking on an incline and slow flat running. It went okay with no repercussions--the knee doesn't feel any worse, so that's good.

Made my protein goal for the 3rd day in a row. Now to just get through the rest of those essays. I have to go to a bridal shower tomorrow, but hope to be home by 2 or 3 at the latest, so I will have the whole afternoon to grade. I do also need to go grocery shopping for some asparagus to bring to my sister's for Easter dinner, and to stock up on more protein rich foods.

    April Challenge:

Nutrition = At or over 90 grams of protein 5/7 days a week
    Week 1: At/over 90g of protein 3/7
    Week 2: At/over 90g of protein x/7
    Week 3: At/over 90g of protein x/7
    Week 4: At/over 90g of protein x/7

    Exercise = run 3 x/week:
    Week 1: 1/3 runs
    Week 2: x/3 runs
    Week 3: x/3 runs
    Week 4: x/3 runs

    Next 8k is May 9th (Thanksgiving 8k = 56:49, NYE 8k = 57:47, 1/25 = 55:41; 2/28=55:15, 3/29 = 59:15)

    Grading Goals:
    1. 17/64 AP essays

    Exercise Goals: (week 1)
    Sun--8k DONE
    Mon--walk gunner DONE
    Tues--walk gunner DONE
Wed--walk gunner DONE + gym NOT DONE
    Thurs--walk gunner NOT DONE
Fri--walk gunner NOT DONE + gym DONE

    Allow me to introduce myself...

My story is probably similar to many others. I was a fat kid, fat teen, and now fat adult. I have tried to cope with my horrible self-esteem problems by incorporating success as a band-aid for not looking like other 25 year olds. My puppy love at the age of 16 in high school left me as a single unwed mother to a handsome son at 17. I worked my butt off and attained my bacheolor's degree after four years (still fat). I was not content with the schedule of an RN, especially since I loved OVERTIME, and raising my son. Went back and attained my Master's Degree (still fat). Now I'm finishing up the process of purchasing my own home next week. And guess what....I'm still FAT.

Don't let me mislead you, I definitely have a good self-esteem when I'm alone. But let me get out in the real world where people in my age group are gathered. I start looking at the fact that most 20 somethings don't have a stomach flap. Most 20 somethings didn't have to don a girdle to look "alright" in their dress.

I started to realize that although I possess an attractive face...that I didn't care for myself and it showed. I couldn't care for myself and be 100lbs overweight FOR NO REASON!!!! I have no obsession with food. I barely eat, but when I do its a meal from a fast food place to include dessert (and a large sweet tea). Add that to days of hanging out tossing down shots of alcohol and therein lies the problem.

I have been on MFP for 3 weeks now and am 7lbs down. Those 7lbs are not the victory. I've consumed nothing but water for 3 weeks (yay!). I've started walking and man its easy (yay!). Although there has been no body changes seen with the naked eye, I've actually grown confident because I know I am doing something now. I'm not wallowing in self-pity. I'm not making excuses and I'm not even craving fast food (although I still partake as long as my calories allow). My mindset has changed and the changes in my body will come. I'm being patient!

So that's my story for now. Definitely happy I stumbled upon this thread and I would love to become a part of your discussion. I'm currently 246lbs aiming for 145lbs (eventually). I've broken my goals into groups of 20lb increment goals so the 100lb task does not seem so daunting.

    Hello All!!!!!

@shaun--welcome to the thread. I started MFP at about your weight 4 years. I lost the first 45 lbs pretty quickly. The weight loss slowed when I approached Onderland, but I also crossed that barrier by the end of my 2nd year on MFP. Since then, I've fluctuated in the low to mid 180s, and even though I'm not at my goal weight yet, I am so much healthier and happier. Come back often and you will get a lot of support and motivation from this wonderful group. I truly would have given up 20 times over if not for the friends I've made here in robin's thread.

@skinny... the yogurt becomes a bit thicker, and can get a bit grainy if not stirred really well. I am VERY picky with texture but this does not bother me a bit. It's tricky to stir it in the yogurt cup which is what I do so I can add it at work. At home I stir together in a small bowl. I use vanilla in cherry yogurt so it takes on a cheesecake taste, but is quite sweet. Unflavoured is probably best unless you want to add flavour to plain yogurt.

Oh, and I completely forgot about the 'dessert' I used to make... plain greek yogurt, chocolate protein powder and peanut butter... Oh yum....

    Good morning all.

@Karen I hope all goes well with the specialist. It can be so hard sometimes to pinpoint what is causing pain in our bodies.
@Tanya that "dessert" recipie sounds yummy. I might have to try that tonight :)
@Laurie hope you were able to find some clothes that will work for your tri. Rcok climbing is definitely on my to do list after I get a little slimmer and stronger.
@Mowmow your kitties are so cute. I have two of them now myself. I hope things work out with the job in a way that makes you happy.
@Robin I hope all went well with the surgery. My mom had that done a year ago and was amazed at the difference
@Kaye congrats on not gaining while away from home. That is always very dicey.

Okay well got interrupted by hubby messaging and forgot what else I was going to say. So a quick welcome for all the new people I saw while I was reading. You have found a great place to get support and even friendship. I am going to start prepping for the foods I am bringing to easter dinner and put in some more plants in the garden today so should keep busy. I did record another loss today. I normally only record losses once a week but I checked it like three times and it stayed the same and I was so excited to be only one pound away from twoderville I went ahead and put it on record :)
Well have a great day everyone and happy easter just in case I don't make it on tomorrow :):)

@shaunjadon -- You ARE beautiful, and you've shown that you are responsible and you've got impressive smarts and and drive! It's not easy to change long-held habits and lose weight, but my advice would be to be sure to log in every day. Log what you eat, to the best of your ability, but even more importantly (I think), is to just check in, do some journaling, and check back in at this thread, especially when you need some guidance or support. You CAN make yourself healthier -- you just have to make it a priority goal, just like you made your education and buying a home a priority goal! Good luck!

@tanya--thanks for the tips. I'm also very picky about texture which is why I asked. I'm not ready to go out and buy protein powder yet, but if I continue to struggle, it's nice to have some ideas of how to use it other than in smoothies.

@tammy--thanks. After looking at the bios of all of the specialists available through my referral, I've already decided to call on Monday and switch the appointment to a different doctor. The one they scheduled me with doesn't look like a good fit. Her entire description is all about "chronic pain management." There is another whose bio says he specializes in treating injuries to get athletes back to their sports/activities. That's the guy I want since one of my goals is to be able to lift again. I tried calling this morning, but the office isn't open until Monday.

    Saturday Success:
I got through one class of essays (my largest class), so only 38 left. I plan to grade a few more tonight-even if it's "Just 15 minutes."

Tomorrow we have to leave around 2 to go to my sister's for Easter dinner, so I will grade in the morning before we go there. Would love to be done tomorrow, but I also have Monday if need be since grades aren't due until Tuesday.

I went to my friend's bridal shower and they had the most fabulous barbecue catered in. I only took one small roll to make a bbq sandwich of the chicken, but ate the brisket and tri-tips on their own. I also only had a taste of the baked beans since I don't "love " those. I do, however, LOVE cornbread and ate 2 pieces of that.

On the plus side, I also skipped any alcohol--they had wine and beer. I almost had a glass of wine, then decided not to waste the calories. Not sure if I will make my protein goal--I'm at 85 g right now and not really hungry so we'll see. I am allowed to be under 2 days/week so this may be one of them. I'm also very close to being over my calorie goal for the day, so if I decide to eat anything else, it will probably put me over for the day. Not overly concerned about that, but don't want to eat if I'm not hungry SOLELY to meet my protein goal.

    April Challenge:

Nutrition = At or over 90 grams of protein 5/7 days a week
    Week 1: At/over 90g of protein 3/7
    Week 2: At/over 90g of protein x/7
    Week 3: At/over 90g of protein x/7
    Week 4: At/over 90g of protein x/7

    Exercise = run 3 x/week:
    Week 1: 1/3 runs
    Week 2: x/3 runs
    Week 3: x/3 runs
    Week 4: x/3 runs

    Next 8k is May 9th (Thanksgiving 8k = 56:49, NYE 8k = 57:47, 1/25 = 55:41; 2/28=55:15, 3/29 = 59:15)

    Grading Goals:
    1. 26/64 AP essays

    Exercise Goals: (week 1)
    Sun--8k DONE
    Mon--walk gunner DONE
    Tues--walk gunner DONE
Wed--walk gunner DONE + gym NOT DONE
    Thurs--walk gunner NOT DONE

Shaunjadon- Welcome and you have found a great thread to participate in during this journey. Congratulations on starting your journey now, I waited until I was 40 to make the change. This is a journey and to make it a life long process you need to discover the changes that you can live with for the rest of your life. When I started this journey, my exercise of choice was walking so that is a great start. You can make it more challenging by changing your pace while walking speed up then slow down etc or increase your distance. The other thing is to plan your meals and cook at home. The changes in your body will come just give it time. Based on what you wrote, you have already started to change your mindset.

    Tracy-Losing 4 pounds a month is great.

Angelika-Did the doctors office tell you what you can and can not have to eat and drink? I would think different types of broth, jello etc.

Karen- I think I am done with clothes shopping for now and I will be returning a lot of stuff. I did find a top that will work for the bike ride and run. I am going to swim in my bathing suit and put the shorts on overtop of it. It is very frustrating finding biking tops that are chlorine friendly. Good luck with the grading and I hope you have one day free from grading. Wishing you the best with the shoulder and that you find the right doctor to solve the problem.

Kelley- Hope you are out of the boot soon.

Saturday successes- I had a great swim this morning even through my arms were tired from the climbing last night. I am starting to swim faster and build my endurance. Today, I was a burst of energy and this afternoon I headed back to the gym to do some core work and strength training so I am sure tomorrow I will be sore, yeah. The darn PF is acting up again and the timing is lousy. The last thing I need right now is foot pain, so the iced water bottle came out tonight and the feet are being iced and rolled to relieve the swelling. In addition, I brought new running shoes in the hopes that will help as well. I ended up with the Brooks Ghost but also like the Asics since they had more cushion. Sadly, the heal of the shoe did not match my feet and was rubbing too much.

Wishing everyone a Happy Easter and a Happy Passover.

Saturday success is two items...I completed all the readings I was behind on and I got my taxes done. Taxes were a positive thing today I did them on my own online like always and I owed almost $800. I was offered by my budgeting counselor to get my taxes prepared for free so I decided to have a professional look at them. I ended up with a $1,000 refund. So, glad I did that I must have been missing some credits.
I have been doing a lot of praying on my new career choice. I want to combine my love of helping others with the project manager skills I learned at Target. Anyone on here that works non profit, vulnerable adults or kids please let me network with you. My past prior to Target is filled with experience of 3-4 yrs working in day placement centers, managing disable team of workers in public facilities, and group home work. My career coach that Target gave me is not willing to listen to what my next move is and is trying to keep me in the same field of work so I need to network with people I trust.
    @Robbinsegg-glad the surgery was good
@Melifornia- Congrats on the work offer and frost getting better
@MyM0wM0w- Well it appears you have another choice with your job. Whatever you choose should be what is best for you.

    Happy Easter to All!

@newbies – always happy to see you post again, I kinda worry about you getting lost in the shuffle. (I worry a lot! Worry is my forte!)

@Mow – I cant figure why you have to track your bull shi*, it makes no sense to me!

Good luck on the job situation. Its nice that your contractor friend will be looking out for you, but I hope you get to stay at HP with your “5 Guys and a Gal”

@Skinny – I’ve often wondered why you didn’t talk much about your childhood or your parents. Now I can see it’s complicated ….Like you said, and I agree, Easter is “more about family time and keeping traditions alive than about the underlying religion”
Also - – glad you read the Dr’s bio’s and switched to the one best for you…
Hope you get fixed up right away!

    @momuv3princesses- I hope you get better {{{{hugs}}}}}

@Goins – wow Family Feud – I watch that a lot – and I admire Steve Harvey –he makes that show quite fun! I enjoy his other show, his talk show too. His advice is thoughtful.

Yeah, Cancer is a stupid pain in the A** disease, and nobody PAMPERS you anymore! EVERYONE expects you to be a dynamite fire cracker soldier-on type person. They don’t remember that you might have brain fog, fatigue, or any of that lingering after-effect. I have a friend who is 4 years post her wicked CA and she is still struggling, while she works full-time, but no one pays any attention to the CA side-effects except me and her counselor. I just think the "happy face" campaign went too far. (OK I’ll get off my soap box now……)

@GrKaye – woot on your 2# loss and saggy baggy things are going to go away with all the birthday money you ask for and get that surgery as a gift OK? Go to a nice spa in Mexico and have it done there ….. ok that’s a risky proposition….just depends on how much you can raise…

@MNQueen – Holly, I can understand the depression – are there any interviews on the horizon?
    Your new pic is great!

@shaunj – welcome – thanks for sharing your story.

AFM – I have been having more problems than there were spiders in ARACHNOPHOBIA.
Checkbook and credit card hot from use – woke up Friday – coffee pot would not work. OK, so I thought this was a crisis – a whole lot of money later, I found out my coffee maker works, but I had had a Fire in my fuse box control panel and for the Grace of God and the Universe, the fire had burned itself out….. (exhales deeply just remembering……….)

I am so fortunate….. that is all I can say

Easter is my favorite of all the holidays and not for the silly secular reasons – I do love the bunnies the dyed eggs of course, the cute little outfits, and dressing in spring clothes. But I also love the idea of the resurrection in its symbolism and so many reminders…. as everything shows new life where it seemed dead before….

@Angelika - here's a website comparing nutritional values of BOOST, CARNATION INSTANT BREAKFAST, GLUCERNA, ENSURE and other liquid meal products. I didn't know if you meant this kind, or the see-through liquid diet like tea and jello. This is a good website for protein/carb/fat/calorie breakdown..

Happy Easter to all who celebrate and a good day to all who do not.

@RobinsEgg - Whew! Dodged a real bullet on the fire. So glad that things turned out well for you.

@mnwalkingqueen - My hubby has dealt with job loss several times in our marriage. It is never pretty. I hope your journey to a new job is a short and sweet one.

@Lauriek70 - I have lost track, when is your Tri? So glad you found a solution to the clothing issues.

@skinnyjeanzbound - Last June I started buying protein powder from my gym. It is Supplement RX. About $50.00 for the large canister which lasts me almost 2 months. I used to mix it in water with a little ice. Last week I tried it mixed with almond milk and really like the taste. The almond milk does not quite agree with me so I will try again with something else. There is one girl at my gym who mixes it with her oatmeal in the morning.
I admire your resolve at the shower with the BBQ. That is one of my weaknesses. I would not have been able to refrain as you did.

@shaunjadon - Welcome to you and any other newbies. I am so glad you found us. This is a great group. Very supportive and welcoming.

Sunday share - My name is Lori, 54, married living with hubby and two grown sons. Started out a little over 3 years ago at 297, and am now at 185.5 as of this morning.
This has been a journey of self discovery as well as self improvement.

I was in the mood for shopping today but most of the stores as well as the mall are closed. I did go to Shopko and hit the jackpot on clearance jeans. Every pair I bought were less than $10.00. Bought a couple of easter treats for my sons (ages 22 and 27) also on clearance.
Then I hit the 1/2 price book store. I found several fitness books aimed at triathlon for about $6.00 each. So I feel pretty good about it all.

I have been in counseling for about 7 weeks now and will have to switch counselors. Mine is leaving the practice. I have to trust that this is a good thing. I will meet with the new one this coming week, I found out she is a distance runner, so I am glad we will be able to connect about fitness.

Things are pretty quiet this weekend. Hubby and I are watching a movie and I will make dinner later. I am enjoying this as most of you know my life has had it's share of turmoil lately.

    Love to all,
    Lori <3
