Hey everyone! I'm a mom to a six year old girl and a three year old boy and we are currently trying for number three I work full time as a mental health therapist with kids ages 5 to 19. I try to eat healthy and workout 5 to 6 days a week. I mostly use DVDs and workout after the kids go to bed. Two days a week I take a tabata class. Feel free to add me if you like!0

I use a lot of different ones that I rotate between. I have Jillian Michael's Last Chance Workout and 30 Day Shred, Amy Dixon's Breathless Body 1 and 2, Personal Training with Jackie (3 of her dvd's), SWAT, the Ballet Beautiful series, and 2 pilaties/yoga dvd's that I use on my "rest" days.0

@kamakazeekim - Awesome. so I guess it is safe to assume that you are an @home fitness kind of person. That's me too. I have done 10 different programs now. I love them all in their own unique way.0

Yep, I definitely do most everything at home. I do take a tabata class twice a week at the local community center but that is ending soon because the instructor is moving away0

I also workout at home to, I have lots of DVD's, Jillian Micheals, Biggest Loser, The Firm, Leslie walking and I like to get 21 day Fix next.0

21 day fix is a great program. I know quite a few people that have had great results. especially with the nutrition guide and system that comes with the program. I plan on getting it just to try the nutrition system out. I understand it takes a lot of the guess work, counting calories, and weighing food confusion out of the equation.

Good morning everyone. I hope your day is off to a good start. A friend of mine shared this recipe, so I thought i would share it with you. An option for a healthy pizza.
Total Time: 18 min.
Prep Time: 10 min.
Cooking Time: 8 min.
Yield: 2 servings
Ingredients:
1 (6-inch) whole wheat tortilla
2 Tbsp. tomato sauce, no sugar added
2 Tbsp. chopped fresh basil
¼ cup sliced mushrooms
2 oz. broiled chicken breast, boneless, skinless, chopped
¼ cup shredded part-skim mozzarella
4 slices medium tomato
Preparation
1. Preheat the oven to 400° F.
2. Place tortilla on baking sheet. Bake for 2 to 3 minutes, or until lightly toasted.
3. Spread tortilla with tomato sauce; top with basil, mushrooms, chicken, cheese, and tomato slices.
4. Bake for an additional 4 to 5 minutes, or until cheese has melted.
Tip: For a gluten-free version use a spelt or brown rice tortilla. For a vegetarian version eliminate the chicken and use soy cheese.

Fat: 5 g
Saturated Fat: 2 g

I'm married and a father of two boys. I work a desk job and have a long commute, though I do get to work at home a couple of days a week. This is my first "serious" attempt at weight loss, mainly because I am not severely overweight (15-20 lbs), but I am getting to that junction of lose weight or buy a whole lot more new clothes.
It's sometimes difficult to eat healthy when others in the house keep junk and want to go out more. The MFP calorie counter does help, though I've been using it for 3 weeks and have not seen much in the way of results. I realize that it will take more time before I see a difference.
I haven't real all the posts in this thread, but if anyone would like to share (or repeat) words of wisdom, please feel free to do so.0 -

Good for you. Remember, it is not always just about the calories, but rather good whole foods and less processed foods. When you can eliminate more of the junk, and put in more of the good stuff, combined with regular exercise, then you will start to see the results.

I get asked quite often what one of the key things is to losing weight or becoming healthier. You have to be consistent. Consistent with your nutrition, your exercise, your water intake, and your sleep. Just like anything else in life, the more you do something or practice it, the better you become.
When you learned to ride a bike, you didn't just hop on and then the next day you went for a 10 mile ride. You had to keep working at it, conditioning yourself, and go longer and farther each day. The same thing applies to your workouts and nutrition. You can't eat right for a week, then slack off the next week, then come back and expect to see progressive results. You have to stay consistent. It has to become a lifestyle change, not just an every other day task.
So if you are struggling, ask yourself, how consistent have you been? Be truthful with yourself. Then, if need be, adjust accordingly.0 -
I had a good day today. Part of my method is to look at what I have eaten, and then cut portions in half if necessary. Besides my breakfast (in which I cut the steel cut oatmeal portion in half), my wife and I had a Groupon to go to Saladworks. I got a half salad and soup. Unfortunately, I had the bread, which I probably shouldn't have done. However, I did get a HALF salad (which I hope was really half). We also got a BOGO coupong on e-mail from Noodles and Co. However, it was for the pasta-free "Buff Bowls" that have spinach instead of the noodles. My wife and I split one of those as well.
Besides the eating, I drank a lot of water (and may still do a glass or two this evening). I mowed the lawn, which took around 90 minutes. MFP says mowing the lawn really burns calories! I think I figured out a good "criss-cross" pattern, and my wife is impressed. Me and my mathematical mind! My mower is one of those Husqvarna ones that has a front wheel drive, but it is heavier than the ones I owned previously. Plus, the grass is thick this time of year!
So my total calorie intake was under 1,300, plus I mowed the lawn which is good for about 600 burned. MFP tells me that if every day is like today, I would weigh 149 pounds in 5 weeks! I only wish . . .
Of course, we will have our weekly outing to Wegmans this weekend, so I'll be offered all kinds of samples. Those of you who are part of the Wegmans cult know what I'm talking about. We are also invited to a neighbor's cookout, weather permitting, and I'm on the hook for making lemon cake (full of sugar, butter, and buttermilk, really wholesome and healthy LOL). Let's see how things look Monday.0 -
God for you Ron. It is hard when your eating out to make the best choices or have the best choices available to you. You did well with monitoring your portion controls. Sometimes, that's all you can do. Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!0

Happy Monday. First and foremost, thank you to everyone who participated in my 21 & done group. If you stuck with some of the changes we implemented over the past 21 days, then you are well on your way to healing yourself through proper nutrition and exercise. The problem in our lives isn't diabetes or high blood pressure, those are just the results. The problem is the way we eat, the types of comfort foods we turn to, and the excuses we make to stay on that path. That's why you and I need to continue this journey. Make today great, reach for your goals, and don't be afraid to fail. Failure is a step towards greatness!0

Hey! I'm a mother of 4. My oldest is 8 and my youngest is 2 I also go to university full time. I'm exhausted most of the time and since having my youngest just kinda lost all motivation to lose weight. Now I'm determined to get back to a healthy weight to before j had my son. I'm showing my kids how important education is but also need to show them how important a healthy lifestyle is!0

Trial and error are still happening. I think I am keeping a better handle on my goals. My water intake is definitely increased (trying for the equivalent of 8-8 oz glasses a day), but with my long commute I have to time things carefully. I bought new shoes because my old ones disintegrated, but they aren't broken in yet and it's a bit painful when I want to go for a long walk. Between walks to and from my carpool, a mid-day walk (weather permitting), and my general ADHD nature, I think I am getting my 10,000 steps in most days.
One other thing I have noticed is that cutting the grass really burns those calories. It being spring, the grass is growing rapidly, so I did a mid-week mow because there is rain in the forecast. The scale this evening showed me at 160.2. I really want to get up one morning soon and see it show me below that 160 mark! For some reason it has been really hard for me to cross that barrier.
Some interesting lessons: 1) Fruit has a lot of calories to count against the daily max. 2) Cutting my portions smaller and eating off a smaller plate helps. 3) My mood is better since I found this site. 4) Resisting the junk food is hard, and I really need more patience. 5) I still have to remember that I am a DAD, and apparently the only one who can help with algebra homework.0 -
@ronronronj You will get there. you are so close. yard work definitely burns a lot of calories. Eventually you will get to a point where your cravings for junk food wil start todiminish. A long as I don't see it, I don't want it. And I wont go out of my way to get it.
@shantellemalley It can be challenging when you have a lot to do. I remember my wife going back to school for her specialist degree, then hounding me because I had my GI Bill and Army College fund and hadn't enrolled yet when my service time ended. So, there were both were, full time jobs for the both of us, back in school, and raising our 2 daughters which were only 1 & 3 at the time.0 -
The scale said 159.2 this morning. Hadn't had a reading like that in a looooong time! Thanks for the encouragement.0
