@stoshew71 I love the video how neat. Was that course out and back? Looks like a pretty place to run.

There were 2 turnarounds on the course. It was through a greenway around Fowler Park in Cumming, GA. I swear, I do not make up the names of these towns.

Here I just wanted to quickly log my run for today (20.04.2015 - 3.8 km), and find there is so much to catch up!

@Timby1 : congrats on the new PR!

@Remus42 : already past the goal on the 19th? Amazing!

@cooter_mom: New 10k PR, well done!

@csman49: that looks chilly indeed - but a beatiful scenery.

@Daisy471 The jewellery is so pretty, what a great medal as a reward for your new PR.

@Stoshew Your medal is also pretty cool ;-) And the video is really nice.

@teacton11 : with pictures like that, it isn't hard to imagine why you love trail running.

@tdbernd: well done on the 10k! I might have to add one of those to my to-do-list in the future.

@_nikkiwolf_ - Congratulations on finishing your first race and with a PR!! Love your picture!! Did you have so much fun?
@shanaber: yes, appart from getting up early on a Sunday, I had lots of fun. Some things were a little different than I expected. One example: I read everywhere that you should start queing for the toilets after picking up the race douments. So that's what I did - in the sports club were the signup was, there was a single toilet with a looong queue on the ground floor. After I had waited for 10 minutes, one of the organisers walked by and said "ladies, why are you all standing in line? There are eight more toilets just down the stairs." Totally not what I was lead to expect! ^^

Nearly everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves - with the exception of one guy I talked to after the race. He was 74 years old and running the 10k that day, which I found pretty impressive. But he was really annoyed that he ended up second in his age group and went to complain to the organisers, claiming it was because he was hampered at the start and wanted that fact to be taken into account somehow. I finally left while he was still arguing - when I looked up the results online, I found that he was 13 minutes behind the runner who came first in his age group, so not sure if arguing about a delay at the start won hin anything. I guess you can find a bad-tempered individual whereever you go, but everyone else seemed to be having fun.

I think what I found most impressive was the second kilometer or so when chaos of the start was over and I was in a large group moving at roughly the same pace. I was running without music, but all steps of all the runners (nearly in sync) were a great rhythm to run to. By the halfway point the field had streched out much more, but at that point the "way back" started, and that was motivating as well.

So another rest day...crap on a cracker! Apparently I have extensor tendinitis. So ice and rest it today. And lace my shoes differently. The top of my foot has hurt off and on, but after yesterday's 10k, it was really tender. So I asked my RMT......oh boy did I get in poopoo for not asking sooner. Haha. Good thing she's my great friend and just shakes her head at me. It's not excruciating, but I figured I had better rest it. I'll do a short run tomorrow and see how it feels. I really do dislike days I don't run. You have ruined me........ And I love it!!!!!

    4/20 = 4.38 miles
    ______________
    Total =35.04 miles
    14.96 miles until goal

Went for a nighttime run in my neighborhood. I've done it so many times before, so I'll admit I was daydreaming a bit. When you know exactly where each foot needs to land and none of the dogs even bother barking at you anymore, you just let your guard down. So just shy of two miles, I nearly soiled myself when an opossum jumped out of some shrubbery and right back in, right in the middle of a shadowy section between the street lights. I made some sort of strangled cry and launched myself down the road. I debated calling it for the night, wondered if opossums could catch rabies, then I just kept going and thanked heaven that it wasn't a skunk.

Oh my gosh! Opossums are so ugly. I have seen them and armadillos when running and doesn't it feel like your heart just stops? And it's so ridiculous, because they aren't going to do anything to us! It really makes me wonder if a scary guy jumped out how I would react, if I act like that at a rodent.

LOL, crap on a cracker! I hate non-running days also! And it's all because of this group! Didn't run this morning because I have strength training after school. And there's a chance I might not make it to training because of car repair issues, so if that happens I'll be really mad and may even run in the 90 degree weather after work.

Thanks everyone! It was a great race, and if any of you ladies are looking for a spring half or 5k in western Michigan I would highly recommend this one. Sorry guys, you can't run but you can always volunteer!

The course goes through downtown Grand Rapids up to the minor league ballpark and back, crossing the Grand River 4 times. This year's course was much better than last year and a large portion of it is on a paved bike trail. GR is a fun city, lots to do and great places to eat. We had lunch at a brewery after the race - peanut butter burger and a rye beer, perfect post race meal!

    4/1 - 3.8 miles (trail)
    4/4 - 11 miles
    4/5 - 3 miles
    4/7 - 5 miles
    4/8 - 3 miles
    4/9 - 7 miles (speedwork)
    4/11 - 12 miles
    4/12 - 3 miles
    4/15 - 3 miles
    4/16 - 3 miles
    4/19 - 13.1 miles @ Gazelle Girl Half Marathon, 2:24:10, new PR!
    4/21 - 4 miles

4/1 - Nice 3.1 miles on indoor track
4/2 - Brutal 4.75 miles of "hilly" treadmill
4/4 - 10 miles, nice mix of hills
    4/6 - 4 miles on indoor track
4/8 - 4 miles on indoor track (33:16...pretty speedy for me)
4/9 - Another hot, humid 5 miles on a "hilly" treadmill (Total 30.85/110)
    4/10 - 4 miles on indoor track
4/12 - 11 miles, on the windy side, but otherwise nice
    4/13 - 2 recovery miles - maybe should have skipped it...ouch!
4/14 - power outage = no alarm = unplanned rest
    4/15 - 4 miles on indoor track
4/16 - 5 miles on treadmill (nice mix of hills, tempo and a few short "sprints")
4/17 - 4 miles on indoor track; weather forecast is making the 12-miler for the weekend look difficult to get in :/
4/18 - 10.4 miles; managed to squeeze in a shorter run than I planned between the thunderstorms
    4/20 - 4 miles on indoor track
    4/21 - 4 miles on indoor track

@Daisy471 - jealous of your post-race meal...sounds delicious! Peanut butter is like bacon, it makes everything better!

@ddmom0811 I think the guy would be less scary to me. I know how to disable a guy, but a opossum is another matter altogether. And every animal can get aggressive if they feel backed into a corner or if there are babies involved. On top of that, there was a report of a couple cases of rabies in a city about 45-60 minutes from where I live, so that's all going through my mind at this point because yes, I have seen Old Yeller. I know I have to loop by that spot a couple more times to get the planned distance in and all I can picture is a rabid opossum chasing me down the street in the dark.

@nottafattie I'm not an expert but since you were seeing the opossum at night I wouldn't worry about him being rabid, if you see him during the day I would steer clear. One of my dogs got in a fight with a ground hog and the thing sliced my poor doggie's throat. It was wild when I got to Rascal (my dog) there was no blood on him but I notice the slit, it was in the folds of his neck so no blood. Scared me half to death. Of course in hindsight me running after a raging ground hog probably wasn't too smart LOL
@_nikkiwolf_ so he thought he was held up 13 mins at the start, I'm going to start using that excuse LOL There is always someone who isn't happy. I always tell Skip to start near the front, always behind the Fleet Feet race team LOL but near the start. Otherwise she gets caught up in the 15 min milers who want to start up front. Me I like to pass people makes me feel like I'm FloJo so I don't mind starting back a bit.
@cooter_mom I'm sorry you are hurting, please take care of yourself.
@daisy471 peanut butter burger? Never heard of such a thing.

@cooter_mom shlt snacks! Hope the tendonitis heals quickly. I have pain on the top of my foot, I'll have to look up the condition your battling. I mentioned it to my chiro, he had no idea really. Mines hurt more than 6 months but doesn't seem to get worse. I'd just hoped it wasn't a stress fracture in the makings.

@Nottafattie better a possum than a skunk. My kids use to play with the possums (with the rowdy-er neighbor boys). They'd just play possum and hiss. Never got real aggressive. My daughter was not impressed when one boy put a baby on her back....Kids...

I've been sending walking quotes to my walking team here at work and I came across this one. I love it.

When people ask me why I run, I tell them, there's not really a reason, it's just the adrenalin when you start, and the feeling when you cross that finish line, and know that you are a winner no matter what place you got. - Courtney Parsons

Congrats to all who raced over the weekend! There were so many. Also congrats to everyone adding to their tickers all month, whether you are on target to achieve your planned mileage or not. As long as you can keep going (barring injury/illness of course) then you are still "winning" (insert Charlie Sheen meme).

I felt so well recovered after my half on Saturday, and felt strong on my first run afterwards today so I went ahead and put in a 4 mile run which would be my normal training distance after a long run. I guess I'll just keep on going ahead with training this week and maybe do a 10 mile long run Saturday, then start tapering for another half on 5/9.

    4/1 - 6 miles
    4/4 - 6.1 miles
    4/6 - 2.3 miles
    4/11 - 13.1 miles 2:42:09.4
    4/14 - 2.26 miles

@Training2BeFast @kristinegift @briebee7 @SonicDeathMonkey - Best wishes on your upcoming races (and anyone else racing this week I missed)!

@Stoshew71 - I never cease to be amazed at the names of places deep in the country.

@cooter_mom - It's always better to heal properly so you can run as much as you like later.

@Nottafattie - That is pretty funny (from this perspective anyway). Definitely best that it was not a skunk! I rounded a bend on a paved trail in a local park and ran into a small herd of deer, with the buck just about 15 feet away looking right at me! I just kept on going and felt lucky to not be chased off by a bunch of pointy antlers.

@Daisy471 - Congrats on the PR! That should probably be the standard bling for the girls-only races. Very nice.
