    Anyway, since you have a medical condition, you should work with a practitioner (doctor and/or dietitian)

    if I had stated my medical condition why would you feel different...if you think something is stupied, impractical or unnecessary why would being diabetic change that wouldn't your thoughts still be the same. I mean is red not still red to a blind person?

    No reason to do this unless you have a medical condition that requires you to do so. If you enjoy flour and sugar, why not just incorporate them into your diet in moderation, while watching your macros and eating at a caloric deficit? Cutting out stuff that you enjoy may lead to binging later on.

    It would have made a big difference to how I would have originally responded to your post-your OP was misleading. If you don't have a medical issue then there is absolutely no reason that you need to cut out certain foods, in order to lose weight and improve your health in the process. Sugar and flour are not bad and cutting them out isn't going to help or hinder your weight loss-not eating the appropriate amount of calories for your goals will. However, you have a medical issue that puts you in a totally different category, and this info should have been provided in your OP. It would be like my daughter starting a thread stating that she's going to cut out dairy to be healthier and lose weight. But neglects to also include that she's lactose intolerant and for her, she has to monitor her dairy for a medical reason. That doesn't mean dairy is bad, its just not appropriate for her. But anyways, good luck to you and I hope you get things figured out.

    because that would mean that you have a medical condition that makes you sensitive to sugar and hence it should be avoided...

    As I have no medical condition, I can eat as much sugar as I want, within a calorie deficit, and still lose weight...

    That's just it though...she didn't ask for advice on whether she should or not. This is her first post...

    She only asked if there was someone else that had given up flour and sugar and what their experience was.

    The way I see it is that we are supposedly all adults. We make our own choices...right or wrong. For me giving up flour and sugar would not work but for others...regardless of whether they have medical conditions or not isn't really any of my business...unless they ask specifically.

    I understand that many people come looking for advice...some people get it entirely wrong. I commend those that have committed to helping. I just think that sometimes...we need to make sure of what help that we are asking for before we just start bombarding them with info that they are not seeking.

    I began strictly limiting heavily refined carbs (added sugars, white flour etc.) and other junk food about 14 years ago. Best thing I ever did.

I have lost 27lbs since Feb 23rd but I count my calories daily and exercise as much as i can. I walk up hills for my workouts. I know lots of people would disagree with me about what I eat but It really works for ME.

    OP, medical conditions are game changers when it comes to certain foods. I'll give you an example from inside my own home.

    Every Sunday, my family has pizza. Except for me. Why? Not because I'm dieting, but because I have celiac disease.

    If you had stated that you were giving those things up because you were a brittle diabetic, it would have changed the responses you got.

    The bottom line... no food is bad, it's just for certain people, especially those with medical conditions, it might not be the best thing to eat. It's not bad for other people though.

    There are other diabetics on these boards who eat flour and sugar under controlled conditions. I don't know the difference between being a regular diabetic and a brittle diabetic, and it really is best for you to speak with a doctor and a dietitian to get a plan worked out for yourself.

    Up until you posted the quoted... and included this rather large caveat about your diabetes, you didn't acknowledge your real reason for your desire to cut out the added sugars or flour. You should work with your aforementioned diabetes specialist, a nutritionist and your endocrinologist to put into place a plan that will work with your diabetes as well as your long term goals.

    Additionally, there are some minimally or unprocessed foods that you will want to avoid if you have diabetes... but I'm hoping you already knew that;.

    I've lost 40 pounds staying away from flour and sugar. I followed the low carb, high fat diet and it was wonderful. Never hungry and sometimes even had to force myself to eat a little more during the day to hit 1,000 calories (it's not like that for everyone though, this was just what happened to me). Lots of energy, better overall mood, better focus during school. Ignore the people who question you, they have low will power if they can't NOT eat those things!

    OP, you do you. If you want to do that kind of diet, you go ahead and do it regardless of what anyone thinks. I and many other people had a lot of success with it. If it works for you, wonderful! If it doesn't, oh well. Make sure to read up on it and you make an educated decision for yourself. You'll always find people who don't agree with your choices.

    no, you lost weight by eating an insanely low amount of calories (1000/day)....

    boopslegri: look into an anti-candida diet as this is essentially what you are talking about. and if you feel manipulated by sugar and flour then by all means try this diet out for a month or two... I have been on it for the past month and lost 10 additional pounds of bodyfat and look/feel amazing. experiment and don't let anyone nea-say it if it is your choice to try it out :-)
