When did you get rid of the "fat" clothes?

If and when I ever get to have something called "fat clothes" (hopefully within a year) I'm pinning one set on the wall and donating the rest.0

I haven't lost in order to be able to have bigger clothes yet, but I plan on either donating what I don't want or refashioning what I do want to keep. Shirts that are too big will be made either to fit or made into something else and pants that are too big to be worn or turned into shorts will be donated. All clothes that are too worn to refashion or donate will either be scraps or tossed. I wasted so many clothes when I was younger when they didn't feel and I started feeling bad because my parents would spend so much on clothes to go in the trash in a year, so I'm trying not to be wasteful anymore.0

Not much changed on my upper body thus there's no need to throw out anything. Trousers are a serious issue. Most of them are two sizes too large now but I simply cannot find any other trousers due to current fashion.
Gosh I was at Marks & Spencer last week and was thrilled that size 10 office pants fitted on the legs. Only downside: I'd need size 8 around my waist as all trousers ended up far too high and it just looked terrible. So yes, basically I'm happy to finally see trousers again with wide lower legs, but to fit my curves, trousers need to sit on the hips, which isn't fashion at the moment either. Argh!0 -

I love to shop and get sucked into trends, I don't have anything in my closet from this time last year.

I donated my clothes as soon as I could get into a slimmer size. No need to have a "Backup" wardrobe in place. They needed to be gone for good.0

I concur, with Radmack, "When it doesn't fit, I get rid of it." As clothes were getting too big for me, I donated them to Goodwill. So it was a gradual process of getting rid of big clothes for smaller ones & it didn't seem so overwhelming.0

I said I wouldn't spend money on clothes until I hit goal. So most of my pants look like clown pants. Will be doing shopping soon. May give some/most away.0

I went from a 42" waist to a 32" waist. There are lots of men's pants and jeans that are labeled 38" but are really 40 or 42" so all of my pants and shorts were marked 38. I still have about a bit less than half of them. The rest are 32 or 34 now. When I wear the big pants (with a belt) my family gives me royal hell (as they should I suppose)0

Back in 2006, I lost about 55 pounds and went from a size 18 to a 10. After losing, I donated all of my bigger sizes. I kept the weight off for 3 years, then a gradual weight (and size) increase turned into major gains. I had "given up". I hadn't really stuck to any changes I had made. Exercise and "dieting" had been a tool to lose weight, but didn't stick because I didn't make it stick. Every time I had to buy new clothes in a bigger size, I felt SO ashamed of failing so badly. So in 2013, after ballooning up to the most I'd ever weighed, I decided REAL changes needed to be made. I've lost 70 pounds, but, more importantly, I have a) discovered a true love of exercising and b) educated myself on food/nutrition. I've kept the weight off for a year now and feel I have a better grasp on my body and what food/exercise it needs to stay healthy, fit and happy. I have zero plans on going back to unhealthy habits and regaining. However, life can be unpredictable. What if I regain? Buying bigger clothes last time was a real demoralizer, not to mention expensive. How long did you wait to get rid of your big clothes or did you hang on to them? I'm interested in other maintainers experience.
I started out at 5XL and really “had” to buy some replacements every 50 pounds or so.
When I reached 3XL, I gave away all my 5XL / 4XL clothes. The 4XL were “like new” (because they essentially were).
When I reached 2XL, I placed my 3XL in storage boxes in the basement – I plan to dispose of them soon.
Now my closet has 2XL & XL only. I plan to dispose of the 2XL before summers end.
I had all the usual debates with myself about cost & the “what if’s” - but this is the first time I ever stuck with a plan for more than a few months. This is the first time I didn’t say to myself or others that I “hoped” to keep the weight off. I now flat out say “I will NEVER regain the weight I worked so hard to lose.”
I plan to keep my size 60 pants forever. Always a reminder of the path once traveled.

I have been getting rid of my clothes steadily as the weight comes off. I have an organization obsession so it's important to me to get rid of stuff that no longer fits. Because of this, I can only get rid of clothes (donate them or sell them) once I reach a certain
weight. Also, because I love to go shopping, I can only go shopping when I reach weight goals as well. Getting rid of clothes is a reminder of what's coming as well as of where I've been and would never like to go again.0 -
I sew, so I've just taken things in. I honestly have no idea what size jeans I actually wear now, lol.0

Not quite at maintenance yet but I made a promise to myself that I WILL NOT put the weight back on so I have already donated lots of my clothes and I'm taking several more bags to my local charity shop today. Bye bye, 'fat' clothes, I will never need you again! It's liberating!0

As soon as they felt too big. At first I kept them, thinking I would sell them on eBay, but after a while they were taking up room in my apartment so I gave some away and threw out the rest.0

OP: Ditch the "fat clothes", no questions asked. Their presence only allows you a comfortable "safety net" feeling where you can gain weight and still have stuff to wear. No one needs that. Donate it to Goodwill or use the fabric for arts and crafts.
I never really allowed myself "fat clothes". When I gained weight, I did not buy clothes accordingly except for underwear. I refused to cave in like that. Instead I would wear stretchy pajamas all the time, and the one skirt and two pairs of pants that fit me because they were old and stretched-out. I was like, "Look here, Titania, if your clothes don't fit anymore then it's not time to buy new clothes, it's time to lose weight, and I guess you're just not going to be able to wear any decent clothes until you get cracking on a diet!"
It worked, you know. ;-)0 -
Literally the moment I could replace them with better-fitting clothes, they were en route to goodwill. And every time I replaced them, I made SURE that I absolutely loved the way I looked in my new clothes and that I didn't skimp on price — which would make replacing those clothes with larger sizes if I gained weight, just that much more bothersome.
A large part of my weight loss has been making my life much more convenient if I just keep on the right track. Once I start to gain, that is when everything gets inconvenient, little-by-little, until I just can't stand it anymore and I trim back to my maintenance.0 -
I've actually been in the process of tossing out old clothes I kept "just cause". I've bought way too much cute stuff to justify keeping them. The shirt in my current avatar, a pair of jeans that fit tightly before the weight loss, and my old FFA jacket are all I intend to spare.
I need really need to buy more underwear.0 -

I've kept mine as I like to try them on when I'm doubting myself when I have my fat days. I'm sure I'll eventually get rid when I have my confidence sorted and I've bought more clothes that fit as I haven't had chance to spend money yet xx0

Last summer I got rid of most of my too big things, keeping only those things I truly loved and had some of them altered. This spring, again, a closet purge - trying on those things I had kept because they were loved and looking like Morty Meekle....I figured I would never wear them so out they went.0

I stopped smoking when I was 25, which is 17 years ago but still have the last packet in a drawer. Some how feels reassuring and clearly have no intention of restarting. For that reason, (yes strange I know) I have kept my most favourite few items in my mid weight loss range, the bigger stuff and items not bothered about are now long gone.0

It seems like one day I woke up and everything was literally too big...truth is I didn't pay attention until I had to and when I did it was somewhat emotional because of the nice new clothes that I purchased on sale during the winter were way too big for me by the Spring. I considered what if I gain weight again...the cost of rebuilding a whole new wardrobe from scratch.... Then I donated them to a charity. This way someone who really needed then got them for free....I considered it a new beginning0

I just got rid of them at my halfway (70lbs) mark. I only kept a couple things so I can have my pic taken wearing them at goal weight.0
-
I dumped mine about 40lbs in as nothing fit. I've kept one pair of pants as a way of reminding myself how far I've come. However, I don't want to keep clothes that don't fit. I feel better in clothes that fit, and so I don't want to keep clothes that don't make me feel good.0

I got rid of mine as soon as they were too big for me. The only thing that I have kept all these years is one pair or jeans as a reminder of how far I've come.0

I am 2.5lbs away from my goal, down 55lbs, and I won't get rid of my fat clothes anytime soon. I'm young still and I want to have children one day so I plan on using my big clothes as maternity clothes. Obviously I'll probably buy some nice clothing designed for maternity but for lounging around my home or visiting family why not.0

slowly, about a year in. It scared me to death. I was well past 16,14,12, and 10 it was time.0

I've been dieting for 3 months and lost 70 lbs I face reality . I'm a fatass always haved always will be don't eat junk food get rid of ur clothes don't listen to what other people tell you -just handle ur *kitten*0

I've got rid of a few pieces - ones that definitely don't fit any more (except for one pair of 'example' trousers and my wedding dress). But it's surprising how many old clothes are still in my wardrobe. They still fit (if a little loose) so there's no point in getting rid just yet. But when they finally don't fit any more, they're gone.0
