Harlowbyrd, who told you you were 41% body fat? There is no way that is accurate at 5'3 and 102lbs. It just isn't possible. You are underweight by 10 lbs for your height.0

I don't dislike myself because of the weight gain. I'm perfectly content and feeling comfortable in my (thicker) skin. That being said I would like to have a healthy bmi.0

First of all, a high protein diet and a vegan diet aren't mutually exclusive. Check out http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/ there are many sources of vegan protein, people get massive gains being vegan. Ever hear of Patrick Baboumian??
Besides this, if you are indeed 105 lbs with very little muscle mass, then I think I stand with many other posters here in saying that you don't need to be on a calorie deficit. Just start weight training and actually eat a bit more calories and you will gain muscle over time. There is NO way you are going to tighten up your flab if you don't eat enough food. You will only be a smaller, equally flabby person.
Another point I want to say is that CICO does work. The problem is that the estimates of how many calories you burn and also how many calories are in food can be off, sometimes very off. People often use a heart rate monitor to get an accurate measure of calories burned.
While it is true that your metabolism will slow down if you are in too great of a calorie deficit, if you are exercising and dieting, you will lose weight. And if you aren't eating enough to support your activity level, you will know it because you will crash, feel like *kitten*, get sick, have decreased energy, have foggy thinking, etc.0 -
5'3 and 102lb is a BMI of 17.8 - seriously underweight ....
You are categorically NOT 41% BF if those numbers are right
- scales do not measure BF
Vegan is not a weight loss diet

I think she's not coming back. Not sure she was ever genuine.
But 102 and BF% of 41% would be lean mass of 60 lb at 5'3, which is impossible.
I'm the same height and have a somewhat slight build and my lean mass is in the low 90s.0 -

That's still CICO. There is a patent misunderstanding of the concept by people who say it's false.
Calories in? That part is easy to understand. The calories out side of the equation? That covers all of the variables and objections all of you who say it "doesn't work" bring up about it.
You had an underlying medical condition. It affected the way your body processed the CO side of things. You had to adjust the nature of the CI calories to hack the CO side.

It's not tactless to point out that 102lb at 5'3 is clinically underweight ...it's a fact
Nor is it tactless to point out that it is impossible to have a BF of 41% at 102lbs ...it's another fact
Dispute it all you wish ...unfortunately that's the reality of the information you have provided

Firstly, the idea of a vegan being this health conscious, absolute God is the biggest load of BS! Despite this image most of them try to portray of themselves! Secondly, you don't need to pick between "vegan" and high protein diets to lose weight or body fat! Have a mixture. Healthy proteins (lean meats), the right amount of healthy carbs and some fats! You can include "vegan" diets in with eating meats. Meats aren't going to kill you, despite the way vegans publicise them. Do your research before jumping the barrel.0

I eat closer to a vegan diet (vegetarian, no eggs, little dairy) because I don't really like many animal products. I may have fish a few times a year, but that's about it for my meat intake. For me it works. Plant based diets tend to be higher in fiber since fiber is only found in plants, so that's good. They also tend to be lower in protein, although often you'll still get more than enough in a day as long as you're eating a variety of foods.
Also, 102 lbs and 41% body fat really doesn't make sense to me. How tall are you? Are you absolutely sure you have your numbers right?0 -

Just do you know, it's the only possible way to lose weight. How you get to the calorie deficit-type of diet, etc.-personal preference only.
