    Harlowbyrd, who told you you were 41% body fat? There is no way that is accurate at 5'3 and 102lbs. It just isn't possible. You are underweight by 10 lbs for your height.

    The carbs you are referring to (pizza) are still, ultimately, sugar in your blood stream....and usually minus any of the soluble fiber which would slow down it's entrance into your blood stream. So if you are already having a problem with your blood sugar (are you under a dr's care?) then this food would not be your best choice. Better carbs are had from veggies, or from nuts, in balance with fiber in food.

    I don't dislike myself because of the weight gain. I'm perfectly content and feeling comfortable in my (thicker) skin. That being said I would like to have a healthy bmi.

    First of all, a high protein diet and a vegan diet aren't mutually exclusive. Check out http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/ there are many sources of vegan protein, people get massive gains being vegan. Ever hear of Patrick Baboumian??

    Besides this, if you are indeed 105 lbs with very little muscle mass, then I think I stand with many other posters here in saying that you don't need to be on a calorie deficit. Just start weight training and actually eat a bit more calories and you will gain muscle over time. There is NO way you are going to tighten up your flab if you don't eat enough food. You will only be a smaller, equally flabby person.

    Another point I want to say is that CICO does work. The problem is that the estimates of how many calories you burn and also how many calories are in food can be off, sometimes very off. People often use a heart rate monitor to get an accurate measure of calories burned.

    While it is true that your metabolism will slow down if you are in too great of a calorie deficit, if you are exercising and dieting, you will lose weight. And if you aren't eating enough to support your activity level, you will know it because you will crash, feel like *kitten*, get sick, have decreased energy, have foggy thinking, etc.

    You are categorically NOT 41% BF if those numbers are right
    - scales do not measure BF

    Patrick baboumian became vegan in 2011. Pretty sure his gains weren't made as a vegan.

    I think she's not coming back. Not sure she was ever genuine.

    But 102 and BF% of 41% would be lean mass of 60 lb at 5'3, which is impossible.

    I'm the same height and have a somewhat slight build and my lean mass is in the low 90s.

    CICO IS science but it is FASE application in relation to a HUMAN body..we re NOT bunsen burners… we do NOT burn 1 kilocalorie from X amount of heat the way science explains it. ANYONE with a metabolic or seep apnea issue KNOWS you can't lose weigh on LESS calories in..beacuse the body does not ABIDE by CICO. Ask me..I was <1000 in DEFICIT a DAY for 16 months on a SAD…and didn't lose..because my body was in shut down mode over sleep apnea..I didn't need 2500 calories as the chart showed to keep all my weight ..I ate only 1400..and STILL have virtually no loss the entire time because my body was not letting go of fat. Until SA was corrected, and I switched to a LOW CARB diet..then I lost weight...

    That's still CICO. There is a patent misunderstanding of the concept by people who say it's false.

    Calories in? That part is easy to understand. The calories out side of the equation? That covers all of the variables and objections all of you who say it "doesn't work" bring up about it.

    You had an underlying medical condition. It affected the way your body processed the CO side of things. You had to adjust the nature of the CI calories to hack the CO side.

    I know that it's not. I could have dropped these few lbs, by yo yo ing for a month.I'm not only trying to find a diet, but something for the long run. I dont eat beef and pork anyways, but not sure if I can sustain meatless lifestyle. I measured myself on a new scale.

    What are you finding tactless? Everybody questioning your dubious numbers?

    It's not tactless to point out that 102lb at 5'3 is clinically underweight ...it's a fact

    Nor is it tactless to point out that it is impossible to have a BF of 41% at 102lbs ...it's another fact

    Dispute it all you wish ...unfortunately that's the reality of the information you have provided

    Firstly, the idea of a vegan being this health conscious, absolute God is the biggest load of BS! Despite this image most of them try to portray of themselves! Secondly, you don't need to pick between "vegan" and high protein diets to lose weight or body fat! Have a mixture. Healthy proteins (lean meats), the right amount of healthy carbs and some fats! You can include "vegan" diets in with eating meats. Meats aren't going to kill you, despite the way vegans publicise them. Do your research before jumping the barrel.

    I eat closer to a vegan diet (vegetarian, no eggs, little dairy) because I don't really like many animal products. I may have fish a few times a year, but that's about it for my meat intake. For me it works. Plant based diets tend to be higher in fiber since fiber is only found in plants, so that's good. They also tend to be lower in protein, although often you'll still get more than enough in a day as long as you're eating a variety of foods.

    Also, 102 lbs and 41% body fat really doesn't make sense to me. How tall are you? Are you absolutely sure you have your numbers right?

    Well I am NOT a fan of CICO because, well, it's false. But I have eaten different ways, vegan, raw vegan, SAD, etc. In my own experience, eating in such a way as to avoid spikes in blood sugar has brought the steadiest and fastest results ever, even at my current age of 46! Make veggies your first choice, non-starchy, and especially get lots of greens!! Aim for 1lb of non-starchy veggies a day, and increase your fiber to 35-45g/day. Then draw into your meals proteins, and try to eat 35% protein. Eat 40-50% healthy fats such as coconut products, nuts, avos, etc. 15% or less carbs, derived from the above mentioned foods. Personally, I pulled out dairy, sugar, fruit and grains from my diet for now. I will eat them later, after I have finished shedding all the unhealthy stress-fat that went on my body! I would be happy to answer questions of you have them. If you can see my profile page, I have listed my progress since I started doing this! Health and blessings!
    You really believe calories in/calories out for weight loss is false? Really?

    Just do you know, it's the only possible way to lose weight. How you get to the calorie deficit-type of diet, etc.-personal preference only.

    You are not answering the question about whether your body fat or your weight is a type.

    There is no way to high heavens you are 41% body fat at 102 pounds. In fact, if you believe that, you need to talk with someone because that is disordered thoughts around weight loss. Besides that, 102 pounds at 5 ft 3 is underweight.
