As I get closer to my goal weight, the plateaus last longer and the whooshes are bigger. I had a 5 month plateau late last year / early this year. In Mar., I got the "whoosh" of a several lb. loss in a few days. Now I've been in another plateau since Mar. and no idea how long this one will last.
It actually helps me to hear you say that, because I am now 15 pounds from my goal weight and have been experiencing exactly the same... plateaus that last for weeks, even when I am logging diligently, followed by rapidly shedding 2-3lbs. i wish it was more linear but I feel better knowing that it's not just me!6 -

Both. We changed almost everything we ate. Avoiding white flour. No processed meats. Typically we eat chicken, (husband gets tired of turkey) although we have ground bison a couple times a week. We'll have fruit and cheese for dinner every so often - skipping the crackers we used to include. Once or twice a month we go wild and buy a nice pork chop. LOTS of fruits and vegetables. Salt free mustard. No sodium ketchup. Low fat dairy (husband eats cheese with his lunch, I usually have a Fage 0% Greek Yogurt for breakfast) No sweets.(except my one square of dark chocolate a day - supposed to be good for blood pressure so I call it medicinal ;-) I try to avoid processed foods when possible - or at least buy low sodium versions. And portion control, portion control, portion control.
The plan is once we're both back in the normal range (we've moved from obese to garden variety overweight) we may have an occasional piece of cake, accepting Cookie Monster's advice that sweets are a SOMEtime food. But we can't go back to our old ways.
I give you both major credit. That type of lifestyle change would def require quite a bit of discipline. Congrats on your progress and keep rockin!6 -

I bought some Bare Minerals and as long as I don't use it near my eyes it seems to be ok, but I still can't get everything to cover up. So far dermatologists have given me retinol, Finacea, Metrogel, Metrocream, Doxycycline, Minocycline, and a few others. All made my skin super flaky and red and peel off. I also tried Proactiv and Mary Kay Clear Proof and they made me feel like my face was going to explode it burned so badly. I gave up dairy with no avail. Same with soy and gluten. They don't know what to do for me. I've been to many different ones for other opinions.2 -

Exactly! My bf told me I didn't need to work out so much or weigh my food, I just needed to not eat everything I saw.
*some family and friends aren't supportive because they're afraid that if you change too much, there won't be a place for them.
*Its great when people tell you that you've inspired them.
*Its amazing when you pull the boxes of clothes out that you haven't been able to wear in YEARS, and you can now fit into half of them, and you're only 10 lbs or so away from being able to wear the rest.
*The extra energy is AMAZING! I went for a 4.5 mile walk last night, ran the last 2 blocks, and went back home because I had to get kids in bed. I felt like I could have easily kept going for another 2 miles at least!
*Posting a picture on Facebook, when there hasn't been one of you even taken in 4 years, then all your Facebook friends commenting on how amazing you look. Best feeling ever!
*Keeping track of your exercise (with a workout diary) and looking back to see your intensity was "high" for a workout that you can now do as "very low" intensity; really lets you see how far you've come in a very short time.

I was afraid to post anything when I started losing weight, but when I hit 50#s lost, I couldn't hold it in and posted it. I got some amazing comments, then people kept asking me how it was going after that....you don't want to fail when that is happening2 -

The way my husband looks at me and the random encouraging things he says when he notices something different about my body.
Feeling my hip bones when laying down
Trying on the next size down jeans and they actually fit! Or trying on a shirt I haven't worn for months and realizing how much looser it is.
Inspiring other friends/family to get moving, I never thought of myself as "inspiring" but now a lot of my friends/family have started biking and eating right and saying it was because of me. That helps keep me motivated to reach my goals.
Frustrating looking in the mirror and not seeing changes. Especially on a bad weigh in day, the mind is a powerful thing.10 -
The huge rush you get when you step on the scale and you have lost more than you expected. I know my mood should not reside in those numbers but I have to admit on good weigh in days I get that thrill.20

Going into a restaurant and the hostess asking if you want a booth. Previous size I wouldn't fit so they always gave me a table. Plus I feel I am getting more looks from the ladies!!6

Because the fact that you're successful and have gone through it you obviously don't know anything about how to do it. Really people, it is that easy! CICO!!! Just because you don't lose 50 Pounds in a week.... a pound lost is a pound lost. You need to be patient and realize that it is a slow process and as long as the numbers are shrinking (weight, measurements, or sizes) then you're succeeding. Once this realization hits you, it's so much easier to lose the weight.1 -

Well you can lose 50 lbs in a week...it depends on how much you value your limbs though.1 -
Being able to pick things up you drop on the first attempt with ease, not almost falling overver and having hot flushes. Actually I don't have hot flushes anymore, and I rased a kid up the stairs at church last Sunday, I can do up shoe laces, 3 months ago I went looking for walking shoes I could just slip on. Oh and I bought a sewing machine to take in pants which are now too big again. Hee I went from size 26 and have just bought a pair of size 18 jeans which I can just fit into, but 20 was too big, am sure the 18s will stretch and I'm still loosing fat. So very much fun.
Oh and am doing the plug hole at Jenolan caves including abseiling and not so worried about the 2hour walk or getting stuck in the cave.12 -
Going from being an invisible 51 year old to being noticed. It is very straaange. I can no longer move about in an invisibility cloak. I got whistled at by a builder today. Cheeky blighter.17

Thanks. :-) We're working on it. It helps when you have a partner in crime. It also helps when you watch someone go from feeling terrible with no energy - to cheerfully mowing the lawn, gardening and doing things he likes doing.

I even paid $1200 for light therapy because they thought that might help. Nothing. I am so sensitive to certain ingredients in the creams and stuff that I think that's what messes me up. I can't use anything with sodium lauryl sulfate or menthol or propylene glycol or a million other things. We've done process of elimination with it.

I looked at lush before, but they all have "fragrance" in them and that makes me get hives all over my face. I have to use scent free, sensitive skin stuff for my shampoo, soap, and any facial cleaner.

I know what it is to try a whole bunch of things and nothing works. I have given up on my psoriasis. My doctor thinks it might start to go away if I lose more weight. Though, I myself don't hold out much hope for that, I admit, I have a teeny bit. But if it doesn't work, then I wont be terribly disappointed.
The rash itself if mild, but it covers about 60-70% of my body.
ETA: My mom thinks it might be a weird form of 'reverse vitiligo' because it is darker than my normal skin tone. Only slightly flaky and it only REALLY itches if I have dairy products, which I actively avoid(I MISS YOU CHEESE!!!!).4 -

Psoriasis would be so frustrating! I had a friend when I was a kid who had it and steroids seemed to work for her. They thought my face might clear up once I lost weight, but 70lbs later it's just gotten worse so the doctor was so confused.2 -
I've always been really flexible but it's become more extreme since losing 60lb. It means finding stretches that actually reach my muscles is nearly impossible. I typically end up really hurting after some of my classes because i just can't stretch properly.

How delicious corn on the cob is with just a teaspoon of butter/Becel & a bit of salt instead of being slathered with it - and all other vegetables for that matter.
How great it feels to drop belt notches - at first I thought the belt I've had for years had to be stretching...nope, it's actually reminding me of my progress.4 -

Yesterday I had 2 people tell me, "Look at you rocking those skinny jeans". Size 26 to an 18! It's a lot of fun just to get dressed these days!

Well I didn't get whistled at, but I am also 51 and in business situations people are offering a handshake WAY more than they used to. I used to be the useful person in the background, now I am the person who everyone needs to talk to.
