Rori: Congratulations on the pushdown pants that you’ve now put in the Goodwill pile. Having our clothes outgrow us is proof we’re making progress. :flowerforyou:

Grits: I weaned myself off of added sugar and rarely use it in my coffee. I didn’t eliminate the sugar that is baked into things or naturally part of fresh fruit. I’ve found some lovely jams or jellies that have no sugar added. That doesn’t mean that they’re sugar free. I use them sparingly as a treat. It is really all about portion control and counting calories for me, and it works quite well. Most things are not inherently evil if we use them in moderation. I drink diet cola that has sucralose as a sweetener, not aspartame. I use stevia in my coffee. :flowerforyou:

Joan in AL: Congratulations on the NSV’s at Red Lobster!

Kim: Your life is busy and varied. I’m so glad your client settled his debt! Cleaning up clutter is not my idea of a good time, but living in a clutter free zone meets that goal really well. :flowerforyou: Sadly, in my life there are NO clutter free zones. DH wants everything out in plan sight, especially since he lost some of his vision when he had a stroke a few years ago. :ohwell:

Heather: I love your new signature! “Heather UK, who lost 57 lbs, but gained so much more.” I have lost a significant amount of weight, and have also gained so much more, including self-respect, better health and a sense of optimism that is new for me. I love the picture of you and your friend. I’ll bet she enjoys her new apartment when it is complete and she gets to move in.

Alison: Hugs! You are loveable and valuable. Please repeat that to yourself as many times a day as you can. You need to believe it because it is true. You have too many abusive people in your life. Are you sure that you can’t find a career with the nursing home? Your kind of kindness and giving heart would be a blessing for everyone there. Do they have a social director or someone to organize fun activities? That could be you, and if not at this particular nursing home, then another. (((hugs)))

Lisa: Have a safe trip home. :flowerforyou:

Pip: I do all my logging on my iphone and it seems to end up getting posted to MFP whether I login to my computer or not. Our carrier is AT&T. We are nearly always able to get signal between here and CO, which is our farthest East point. My home is in an area where there are no other service providers that have adequate coverage. :flowerforyou:

Yesterday was glorious all day long and DH is worn out from the activities of the day. Today we will take it a bit easier. I want to go to the Farmer’s Market in the next town over and maybe to the farm stores on Sauvie Island. Well see.

My riding lesson went especially well. My teacher used my phone to take video of me riding so that I can see how I’m doing. I am unlikely to win an equitation ribbon at this point, but I was pleased with my posture and balance, and that my hands & legs were quiet, steady & calm for the horse. As an added bonus, my back is not sore at all today! Yay!

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” Thomas A. Edison

    June Goals:
    1. Log every bite and swallow.
    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
    5. Eliminate alcohol.
    6. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

Gilly - yeah. I don't really care what the patients think. I dance and sing at work, walk away from my desk to sit next to them to talk, etc. They love me here, and it's mostly because I'm so spontaneous that way. We joke alot, and try to keep a very laid-back environment as well. And almost everyone knows about my RA, so not much surprises anyone anymore. It's like a huge family.

Chris - Congrats on the new jeans, and the incredible value ! ! !

Thank you dear friends~ means the world to me that you care <3
I went to Lowes and returned stuff, and bought one switch and came home.
DH is out trimming the hedges, and the poor electrician is having a heck of a time, feel so bad for him..
DH is getting frustrated.. we have idiots that live next door and across the street, that are a bunch of lazy people, that are living off us,(state aid) while Tom and I try and keep the house and yard up ,these people could care less, its just so very frustrating.. the yardwork here I wont miss thats for sure when we move to Florida.
I am very very depressed, and would just love to have a drink or two and sleep.. but that is not the answer I know...
the gym here in town is 24/7 but you need a key card to get in, did get a email from the manager, and stopped down there and of course she wasn't there..
right now I am in no mood, to go out for a walk, jog, gym anything... a nap might be nice.. but then I will feel like I am not doing my part...
I don't know how any of you ever lived through a reno.... :s

Terri - I am sure you appreciate how lucky you are to have that sort of a work situation. I got told we are a professional company and that I have to have that sort of an attitude. When there used to be another girl who worked on reception with me, we used to talk to one another and one of the patients wrote on a 'friends and family' card - quote 'I don't know what the receptionists do, they seem to spend all their time chatting and laughing'. I was told in no uncertain terms not to do it again!

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .

    Good Morning Ladies,

Rori, my DH has the same problem as you. He wakes up anytime from 3:30 on and then is ready for a nap by the time I get up. Lol He ends up going to bed early and it starts the cycle over again. Thank goodness he’s retired and can sleep whenever he wants/needs. Great NSV on those pants sliding down over your hips. Keep up the great work.

Joan, how wonderful that you have reached the point to be able to simply turn down food. (Wow, especially those cheese biscuits) Doesn’t that just give you a feeling of power?

Katla, love hearing that you are tired and happy.. Who could ask for anything more? ((Hugs))

Mary, I’m glad you are reconsidering the house if it is one that you really like. No house is perfect, even if it takes a while to discover that. You also have the option to ask the seller to help pay for some of the repairs, as those same things will be an issue with any buyer. I’m sending the best thoughts your way.

Poop, I’m sure a lot of us could get very raunchy, but you usually behave very well in here. And I have a feeling sometimes it is oh so tempting to get a little carried away. All of us aren’t the shy, reserved ladies that some in here are. I do have to laugh at Mary for being such a potty mouth, saying your name.

    Joyce
, if your DD wants the china cabinet, I’d for sure store it in the garage if you have room. I do suggest covering it with a sheet or something porous if you can. Sorry your donut wasn’t worth it. I didn’t get one.

Heather, I love the picture and your look absolutely wonderful!!! That gives us all hope. Ilove hearing all the other fantastic side effects of losing weight and getting healthy.

Chris, what is an SO? I keep seeing that and sure I’ll feel stupid, when I learn it, but can’t for the life of me think of what it can be. I would dance too if I stepped on the scale expecting a gain and found a .2 lb loss. Good for you!!

Welcome to any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.

I couldn’t get online first thing this morning, so decided to start my exercises, before I read your posts. I wasn’t into it so much, so asked DH to go for a walk with me. We took Miss Maggie (lab) who absolutely loved it. We only went around the short block, because I had the feeling my bursitis might start acting up.. It was between a 20 and 30 minute walk, but it was Janet actually walking. Yea me. Now I need to finish my other exercises. It’s a beautiful day in Myrtle Beach. If it rains, it will be later today, so I want to take advantage while the sun shines.

Do something nice for yourself today. And make someone smile.

    Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
    and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.

Oh Gilly - I do appreciate many aspects of my job. But the fact is, I've never applied for a job that wouldn't allow me to be who I am, which is silly and talkative, etc, even if I was sorely under-qualified. I have 1 year of nursing school and no reception or secretarial school, just a personality that doesn't quit. I hope you will be able to find a balance between your job and movement. Hugs ! ! ! B)

Yes! We are going to purchase the house of my dreams! Under 5,000 in immediate projects. Mainly to improve insulation which will save money in the long run.

    Have a great day everyone!

Sondre, mine is in July, and I will be the big 5-0. My family wants me to decide on a gift…I don’t want anything but they are insisting…I’m thinking maybe a massage?

I’m down 10 pounds, the scales have been good to me. I got a gajillion more to go, but I’m hoping that I’m learning my lesson and realizing it’s a process and is not immediate. I’m having some pain from an overused hamstring and my old arch enemy plantar fasciitis, but I’m dealing with it. Both come from deformed ankles at birth that were never surgically repaired. I’m paying for it now. I stick to the elliptical because it’s waaaaay too easy for me to roll my ankles when running. It’s not ideal, but it’s better than nothing. I walk outside when I can; we live down a long dirt country lane of sand, and if you’ve ever tried to walk in loose sand on the beach, you know it’s not easy.
Until next time, keep on keeping on!

Hi Jules, I think a massage sounds great!! So happy for your 10 pound loss!! That is so awesome. Just think about how much ten pounds is....like two five pound sacks of flour. Tomorrow is my weigh in and I am hoping for a loss. Fingers crossed!!

My computer security will not allow me to get any 'smiley faces' or 'emoticons'. BOO!

You'll just have to go old-school. :-D A few that I remember from the high and far-off days, and a rhyme I wrote for another site I frequent, the Omnificent English Dictionary in Limerick Form.

    Emoticons: :-) smilie and >:( frown;

Jules - lots of big (((HUGS))) He sounds like a great guy with the right attitude. He knows he is not going to live forever. Make the most of your time with him.

Sylvia - hope all is OK. What a stressful situation! Let others take the strain for now. <3

Well, DH finally decided this afternoon that he definitely was coming with me. Have to love him as it is DEFINITELY not his thing. Enforced socialising, cold and seasick. But he says he didn't want me to have a bucket list, long wanted experience without him. Hmmmmm. Anyway, it means I can upgrade my cabin so we have more space and privacy. So we now have a Junior Suite. Nice. He is very worried about me spending my rental sales money, but I want to LIVE my life, not save up for some future disaster. Having had cancer I know it could reappear at any moment. I am really, really looking forward to this trip next June.

Had the kost delicious 400 calorie dinner tonight. Risotto Primavera. Primavera is Italian for Spring. :D Broad beans (fava) from the garden, so small, sweet and delicious, spinach ditto, some stringless beans, button mushrooms and asparagus. Used my own homemade chicken stock. 5 stars. :D

We have our own rhubarb and homemade yoghurt for dessert. I am over on calories as, YES TERRI, I had some cheese at 4 am this morning! I could not sleep and knew cheese would calm me. It did. But it was quite a big portion. :embarassed: I am still within maintenance calories so quite happy.

We planted the #÷×"+ geraniums that DSIL had given us. Normally DH does all the shovelling and wheelbarrow stuff, but I did it because of his hernia op. No problem. Then I sprayed the patio weeds. Logged all the calories.

I will post a pic of the itinerary soon.

    Lots of love, Heather UK

    Hello Heather,

I enjoy your posts! The dinner you had sounds absolutely delicious. So great that you were able to stay within calories ;)

Congratulations on LIVING your life. It makes total sense to me to enjoy this moment, the next, and the next for as long as we have them.

Apropos of nothing much, neither advising nor suggesting anything to anyone.... three things had to happen before I left my ex. 1) Told my brother if nothing changed by the time I was 50, I was leaving. He asked what I thought was going to change in the next two years that hadn't changed in 27.... 2) I lost 166 pounds post gastric bypass and found my self esteem. 3) I woke up on January 1st, 2008, looked at him, and thought, "I'd rather die alone than live with you."

I think none of us know what the others go through behind closed doors...

I wish I could do more. I'd be tempted to slap your husband upside the head, if I were the sorta person who slapped people upside the head. (In reality, I'm an emotional wimp.)

You have good reasons to feel bad. If you can pull yourself out, you'll have even more of my respect.

I've never posted here. I decided to try to get support for my efforts. I started fitness pal in February. ..and added a fitbit in April. I've lost 15 total since Jan 1. I get those lovely notices that in 5 weeks i should weigh less if i keep my exercise age intake the same. It is PAINFULLY SLOW. I do get a boost succeeding with the daily goals. ..i feel like i am seeing great progress in terms of my general health. I'm healing better it seems. I'm sleeping better. I'd like to believe the predictions. ..LOL what a rush to get the buzz on my fitbit...:-)

Working with the makeover mentor, danna demetre has been a blessing.

I WILL BE THIN THE REST OF MY LIFE. ..AND IT WILL BE A BLESSING AND SUSTAINABLE.

    Welcome mimarg!

I am so glad you joined the group. The girls here are so very nice and supportive!

You have lost a whole 15 pounds!! that is AWESOME!! Congrats!! I am losing slowly as well. But, I must say, I agree with your take....to accomplish my daily goals is rewarding and I am feeling much more healthy. My body is finally getting the nutrition it needs!!

    well good morning again~
I unfortunatly picked up a tray and forgot to put gloves on and was sent home from work... I dont need, this!!
my stomach is in knots.. I dont , like forgetting things, getting scolded, and or possibly fired..Im sure i will be the talk of the office today.. and will try and see What I can find on line for jobs.. :'(

So sorry to hear what happened. I am the same way when it comes to getting scolded...or fearful of being fired. It is sad that people around the office have nothing better to talk about. Why can't people be kind, understanding and care for others unconditionally? Surely that is what they would want if in your shoes. Life is too short to be mean. I could see myself checking the want-ads, too.

You are a wonderful person.....gloves or none :)

HELLLLLLP I've fallen behind and I CAN'T CATCH UP!

There are so many posts I want to respond to but I'm only up through page 10! I have been reading furiously and giving thoughtful responses to all of you - they are just not typed out (kinda like the "Dear
Abby" and "Letters to the Editor" thoughts I never actually wrote and sent!).

It is my knee that is dodgey - sorry for the confusion!

I am loving how so many of you new gals have jumped right in! The more the merrier!

Janet - thanks for the ((hug)). It has really helped my knee feel all better!

Heather - A big part of me is so glad hubby will go on the cruise. Another big part of me is disappointed because I thought we might get out our transporter and all of us "Snow Babies" could come along on that trip! Think we would be too much for your hubby!?!?!

Sylvia - You have a thing for hospitals, girl. Praying everything is okay.

Well - I am going to try to read a little more if I can after I book my Southwest flight to Kansas to see my sister in July. This is the last day for their cheap get away fares and it will save sooooo much. Glad Southwest flies into Wichita from Nashville now.
EVERYONE and I do mean EVERYONE - you mean a lot to me. I know this journey is so much better with this group of friends!

    TNToni

    Hi TNToni,

Thank you for putting my thoughts into words. I am reading as fast and as long as I can....BUT I CAN'T SEEM TO CATCH UP EITHER!!

This is an awesome group of girls...so glad to be here.

I took on a second job, as candy dipping is full-time only from Sept through Easter. I am providing care to a lovely 92 year old woman with dementia and Alzheimer. My schedule changes from day to day which is completely out of the ordinary. I am having a bit of trouble eating the amount of veges I'd like because half of the time I don't know if I'm coming or going. I made the mistake of not asking enough questions before taking this job. Such as, how many days a week will I be working and how many hours per day. I am scheduled for a month at a time so I feel locked in for June. I am going to request specific days and hours for the month of July. I really want to get into the habit of eating well!
