    @Annr , I tapered off coffee very gradually over at least a week---a little less each day in order to avoid the headache


    @evinston , when I first started carrying a pedometer, I struggled to get to 10,000 and it took a long time to find ways to get more steps...i am fortunate to be retired so I have a lot of time to walk.

    Did 50 minutes of a Peak 10 Pure Strength DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to take the deep water class. First, I'll stop at the Humane Society to drop off my aluminum then probably go to Bi-Lo for items on sale that I have coupons for.

    Made brownies for tomorrow night, then went to lunch with the Newcomers, went in the pool, then to pick up the beer butt chicken stand I'd loaned out, then to WalMart, stopped to buy honey (this guy up the road from me has his hives in his backyard....can't get much more local than that!) then home to make a blueberry coffee cake since Ken can't eat chocolate. I don't know how it's a coffee cake since it isn't made in a coffee cake pan. Well, we shall see how it is

    tuliplor - you sure do know how to make someone drool, don't you? So glad we're helping you. I like to prelog my food if I can, then I can see if I'm over on the calories what I can eliminate.

    Becca - when I gain three pounds, it seems they aren't that hard to take off. Now continuing to take off...that's a different story. I agree with DJ - put on your big girl panties and start eating right...and now!!!! A Women 50+ get together would be so wonderful. Whipped Cream vodka over ice -- sounds delish

    I'm thinking that tomorrow we'll have the beer butt chicken. Vince says I made it for Ken & Lynette once before, but I don't think so. We'll have corn on the cob, I'm thinking I'll make some rice, probably need another vegetable. Then have the brownies and blueberry coffee cake for dessert. I tell you, I do my best thinking in the pool. that's where I was when I got the idea for the storage shed for the pool stuff and that's where I was when I decided what to have for dinner tomorrow. I know that I've thought of other things in the pool, too.

    DeeDee - if being retired you can't keep up with this thread, how did you do it when you were working??? I know that sometimes I have trouble keeping up. I remember FIL saying after he retired "where did I ever find the time to work?" Now I know what he meant!!!

    terri - Payne's scores have me in amazement. I'm thrilled to death if I get just two strikes in a row. Doesn't happen very often. I bet he can kick himself about that second frame. NO HANDICAP????? Good luck to your son, hope he gets that scholarship money. How great of you to donate blood

    Cheri - Personally, I hope for Chapel Hill. If not, Staunton will do. Great NSV. I never could wear capris. I see you do crocheting? Have you ever done c2c? I get how you increase, but not how you decrease. Lovely quilt and afghan.

    Lesley - your peach smoothie sounds great. Do you have nutritionals for it?

    DJ - I made a salad this morning and was I ever glad that I did, because that gave me something good to munch on. I'll probably do that tomorrow, too. Great find of those collarbones

    pip - that bill would have made me gag. But like you say...it's once in a lifetime

    Carol/Peach - I MUST get my pants in the petite dept. usually tops, too. Sometimes I can get by with a ladies top because of the way it's cut and I can sometimes get away with a smaller size in shorts in the ladies dept, but no way can I get pants! I'm 5'1" too, and I hate hemming things, too. Lately, I've gotten to where I'll have a little bit of meat but give me my veggies. That reminds me, I got grilled veggies at lunch today. Ordered the black bean burger, no mayo (just lettuce and tomato) and instead of chips, fries or pickle, I substituted grilled veggies. I don't now why, but they were SO full of grease. I used at least 6 napkins to blot up the oil

    It took me all month to catch up, I thought I would be another year older by the time I did. But I made it, before I celebrate my birthday which is St. Swithin's day (July 15). I can't comment on all that's been going on but I have been following. Thanks for those if you who sent prayers, I will advise you of the reason and outcome soon.

    Tomorrow I begin the C25K class at 5:30 am. I have been successful in getting up 5 minutes earlier each day and getting on the elliptical so it wouldn't be a shock to my body to exercise so early in the morning. I must admit that I am enjoying getting the heavy exercise over early in the morning. My big problem now is that I am having trouble sleeping, it may have nothing to do with the exercise though.

    One of my goals for June was to increase my water to 64oz./day and I have been doing pretty well with this goal, hit it about 75% of the time. Wasn't that good about strength training though, only about 6 times last month. I'll have to work on that.

    Getting better at managing social gatherings. I may gain a bit but right back on track the next day and I lose it within a week and continue the slow methodical loss. I have to plan my long distance driving food better. Next road trip is weekend after next and I am taking my 8 year old step grandaughter to visit my mother and then on to my BFF's house at the beach. I know this trip will involve stopping st rest areas because she will be with me, I just have to plan better so I don't gain so much on these trips.

    I am now less than 6 lbs. away from my first major goal, and 11 lbs. away from the healthy weight ramge. I never, ever thought that I would be this size again and I thank all of you for the inspiration to keep going. I am cheering you on as you have cheered me. I went thrift store shopping last weekend and am now mainly in a size 8!! Down from a tight 14. My vacation to Mexico is in 3 weeks and I needed all new summer clothes. Got 15 items for less than $70,including 2 dresses, 1 pair of pants, 2 skirts and many tops. Almost everything was a designer name. I did finally find some bathing suits (not at the thrift store, not something I would buy used) but at a discount store. I stayed away from that binding miracle fabric that made my fat redistribute to places it had no right to be. I did not want to get a bra for my back as well as my front! These suits are comfortable and I am ok with the fact that I will never look like Pip. But I may give her a run for her money in the tan department. I will have to post a pic of my legs when I get back from vacation.

    It's getting late and I have to run at 5:30 am so I need to get some sleep.

I may even make a sign to wear around my neck, Active One.

    I so enjoy our group and look forward to reading everyone's escapades each day. See less of each of you tomorrow :)

    Terry, thanks for the info about your ulcerative colitis. It gives me hope that there can be an end to this nightmare. With all the water I drink and him in the bathroom all the time, the two of us go through a roll of toilet paper a day. He is on Prednisone for 2 months right now and a couple of evenings ago we thought he might be turning the corner as he only had 1 BM during the night. How often do you have a follow up colonoscopy?

    Cheri, I love your handiwork. I made a quilt for my oldest grand daughter's first big girl bed. I was so proud of it. Then I had enough scraps left over that I was able to make a doll sized one to match it. One of the toughest one I made was a king sized one for my youngest daughter's wedding. To bad the marriage didn't last. Now three dogs sleep and play on it. I hate to think the condition of that quilt I spent long hours on. I piece it by machine but all the quilting is by hand.

    Pip, that receipt was all one meal???? I always thought the meals in Las Vegas were cheap so that you would spend more money at the casinos and shows. Can you tell me what is that dish you had at The Billagio?

    Terri, that's why I stay out of big cities. I like to know the road systems, when you need to make sure you need to get in the right or left lane, etc.

    Mia, my sister who is only 18 months older than me was just aghast when I told her that I had on purple midrise underwear. I have on hot pink today!! Yes, they are fun. But when I was working as a nurse that was the time nurses still wore white. You HAD to wear white undies or it would definitely show.

    Jane, you couldn't give blood because you were a safety risk due to sciatica and arthritis. They must not need blood there to much to be that picky. I had always thought that I couldn't give it because of my MS but a lady was talking on the news the other day that since they use all components of the blood that pretty much anyone can give. I am AB- so I would love to give it. When ever my sister has a project to do around the house she goes and gives plasma since that is the only blood product they will pay you for. My son in law gives it as often as he can.

    Vicki, the IRS scam was in our local news the other day. I still get the calls all the time, I just hang up on them now. Of course some day they will change their city and I won't know it's them and will answer it. I just don't understand how these guys from Pakistan can call the the city listed on my call waiting is 15 miles away.

    Michele, I am just happy when I don't get more than 2 gutter balls in a row! Actually it has been a long, long time since I have bowled. I stopped when we got first place in our league. Me being as lousy as I was allowed the team to get handicap points which my husband hated to give up but he sure enjoyed it when I joined the team and we got 1st place that year.

    I sure am enjoying my 'strawberry ice cream' at night except how cold I get when I am eating it. Tonight i bought some peaches to try some peach ice cream. Some day when my sister is over, I will have to make us some. She would be quite surprised what the two ingredients are. I have had discomfort in my outer thighs for many years and it seems to be getting worse. I am a side sleeper and the leg that is on the bed sure is painful at times. I have had plain x-rays, Cat scan and even an MRI to see what is wrong and nothing can be found. In fact it was the MRI that showed the tumor I had in my uterus which led to a hysterectomy which was cancerous. It is difficult for me to say I had cancer since I never knew I had it and the hysterectomy took care of it. I had every 6 week exams to make sure it was all gone. I mean, they took everything out, including my cervix.

    I am on a forum on Face Book that is lie family just like this one. It was formed because we all played a certain game. Other forums like it contained several thousand members and you would get ousted if you had an 'off topic post' but this one was the opposite. Our moderator, or Mom was the key to our togetherness. Well we hadn't heard from her in a while so one of the members who had her phone number called her and left a message. It turns out she had died and she wasn't close to any family members so no one posted anything. Finally some one got our call off her phone answering machine and called. It would be devastating to hear if one of you died, especially if no one of the family knew to contact us. Most of the forum is in shock. I guess as a former nurse, I internalize my feelings like grief and hide them in a separate section and some day will deal with it. Have done that with both my parents. Drives my family crazy. Well it drives me crazy also that I can't deal with it at the time.

    Hello everyone! I got the 200+ irises that I dug up yesterday replanted. I also planted about 50+ plants that I bought and dug up a month ago. I had to get them in the ground so they wouldn't die. I haven't done anything in the house today. I will do a little tomorrow. Then we are going 3 hours into Minneapolis to the Twins baseball game. My DH earned it through a selling challenge competition at work. 6 couples go and we have a private suite and food and drink served throughout the game. We will be staying in town until Monday. Sunday I go to my nieces bridal shower, Monday both of us have Dr appointments. We will be staying at a hotel so it will be a mini vacation. We still haven't closed on our house. Our buyer has to get financing from another lender.

    Carey - I have had a hard time being good too. I have to really start making better choices. We have been eating out a lot because of the move which isn't good! I love your goals.

    Cheri- your DH's effort to give you love and affection sounded so cute I could picture him stopping and kissing you!

    DJ - no, I had to get the plants into the ground before they died. I dug up around 25 from my old house, hostas, and irises that needed to be thinned out about two weeks ago. And another 25 that I bought 4 weeks ago they were looking bad. The ones from my house actually were from plants from my old, old house, then they went to my daughters house, then she gave me pieces of them that I planted at the house I'm selling and now they are here at my new house. They have been traveling with me for 17 years now. I'm glad that you are feeling better.

    Pip - I can't believe that they would charge that much for water! Are the drinks still free on the gaming floor?

    Heather- what a wonderful time you had with your friend! Great food as well. I'm sorry to hear about your other friend! That is a tough situation.

    Crap on a cracker! Just lost my whole post.

    Not redoing the whole thing tonight.
    It's been an interesting day.
    DH is going for sigmoidscopy tomorrow at 7:45. He is not thrilled and definitely not thrilled that he has to give himself a fleet enema at 6:45 a.m. To hear him tell it he is the first person ever to have to put up with this.
    Street Wheelers weekend. We will have people on our deck but keeping it to a minimum. Our poor 69 Cutlass convertible won't be coming out this year as it has a fuel tank leak. It was redone by DH for our DD's wedding. I love cruising in it but my back does not. Looking forward to the Controlled Cruise. It's always great to see the oldies come out and from all over. Sunday the trailer babies will have their turn in the Park. Always a good weekend for Lethbridge.
    It was so smoky this evening that I had to take my puffer on my very short walk

    Nice LV photos ! ! ! ! ! Don't you just love that city walking! I hope we will be doing that tomorrow up in London where we're going to meet our friends visiting from Colombia with their two small children. We will meet at Tate Modern, which is about 20 mins walk along the Thames from Waterloo. Then a run around with the kids and our friend wants to show his boy the Jackson Pollocks. I will take a Quest bar with me and nuts in case eating schedules go a bit awry. It will be heaving with people, that's for sure. :ohwell:

    Got to get on with writing, but just wanted to say that , despite eating over my losing calories three times this week, I have actually lost half of my safety pound! ! ! ! ! ! ! Must be all that walking! That means my ticker is NEARLY truthful. Just half a pound out! :laugh:

    DJ - don't you just love those collar bones! :love: I was sooooo pleased when mine reappeared! The next thing that astonished and delighted me was upper arm definition. I don't remember ever having that before. Bless those dumbbells! As long as I keep my arms covered in something tight they look maaaaarvellous. :bigsmile:

    I have emailed my sad friend. :cry: Things feel very dark to her at the moment. Some of it she brought on herself, but we can all say that, can't we, with hindsight. :ohwell:

    Sharon~ I almost spit out my tea with the crap on a cracker comment... but that has happened to me...
    lucky I still have a few frozen meals in the freezer that is what the DH is getting tonight.. made him a calzone last night..
    still trying to figure out what to eat.. and tomatoes are not on the list!!! I love tomatoes..
    so will go check out the Davita website again and see what I can whip up..
    did buy quite a bit of fruit yesterday.. cherries, grapes , fresh peaches, those are high but somehow all the canned fruit is not.. thats just weird.
    going out to dinner with friends tomorrow night, down near the shore.. so will see what I can eat there.. will check in when I get back from work

That was hard at first, but now everyone knows that I'm a picky eater and I'm not concerned about their opinion of me. I bring my own food or eat before an event or ask a lot of questions about the ingredients. I don't use food as entertainment anymore.

    Good morning ladies! We stayed in Kearney, Nebraska for the night. We had a fairly good night, although the bed was very hard and I hardly slept at all. Hubby wanted to leave the bathroom light on and it kept making me think the sun was coming up. We were determined to get up early and get on our way, so I was afraid I would oversleep. It looks like we may not make it to Mount Rushmore after all. There is too much to do in western Nebraska that we may just stay in that area and do more hiking and stuff. That's great for me. I didn't get enough steps yesterday and totally pigged out (at least 1500 calories for the day), so I'm hoping to do a LOT of walking today.

    When we were choosing a hotel or last night, I was looking on Expedia and they listed something called a Mystery Hotel. It's like a grab bag. They tell you the price ($45 !) and tell you it's a three star hotel. Once you book it, they tell you the name of the hotel. And it's non- refundable. Well, they assured us it was three stars, so what the heck. We booked it and then found it had terrible reviews on Trip Advisor. Once we arrived we discovered it was a place we had stayed many years ago when hubby had a chemistry conference. It was awful then and had not improved much. And as we were checking in hubby heard the clerk tell somebody else the rate was $35! So, we had a good laugh about our three star hotel. I don't think we will do the Mystery Hotel again.

    Well, we are off to breakfast.

    Morning/afternoon/evening all... welcome to the new loser ladies, you've come to an amazing place.

    Trying hard to forgive myself for a lot of things today--I'm usually my harshest critic, and my weight loss and other goals are no exception. My own statements about having damaged my brain when I donned my protective fat suit in my teens and twenties are actually helping my perspective this morning. I would be able to give my time and patient assistance to any person with a disability if they couldn't perform some task quickly or efficiently.

    I'm asking my broken brain to give up something it desperately wants--a constant and ongoing supply of food--and I have to learn the difference between when my brain wants it (which is from the moment my second cup of coffee is finished) and when my body needs it. I still confuse the signals. Giving myself time and forgiving myself when I am not the poster child for weight loss is important--and probably harder to do than anything. Doesn't mean I'm diminishing my overall expectation, just knowing it may not happen in the time frame I would wish. I didn't start this expecting it would be short term--even though I suspect some part of my mind was hoping it was...I am changing my life, not just my pants size.

    Joyce, you said something about teaching a class in bariatric surgery--I've been asked to come to a number of events for prospective patients to stand up and tell my story. The usual messaging is:
    • Do the work on your head before you have the surgery, because if you don't understand why you got fat in the first place, you will regain the weight
    • You're making a lifetime commitment to take supplements and engage in healthy behaviors unless you want to land in the hospital with malnutrition
    • You are changing the dynamic of every relationship by changing who you are--you will lose some people from your life--and this can include your marriage, and
    • Would I do it again? You betcha, Red Rider.

    Mixed message? Sure... weight loss is always a mixed message. Society approves, our brain hates it (although we can change the pleasure centers somewhat to accept substitutes like endorphins from exercise), our families keep an eyebrow raised because they've seen us "diet" so many times.

    Too philosophical for a Friday morning, I'm thinking. Stalls on my weight loss always make me dig deep for the "why" of what I'm doing. :) I think it's to keep from the frustration levels that will bump me into unhealthy behaviors...

    Good Morning Everyone!! So happy to be a part of this warm and inspirational group!! I enjoy each and everyone's daily post! This is my 1st time posting, and I plan to get used to all of your friendly faces here, and join in!!

    I have been in sort of a "slump" for two (2) months now. My eating isn't that bad, as I am under the care of a Dietician and she watches me like a hawk on my eating plan. I always log in each and everyday on MFP. Quite different in looking at your daily eating/exercise on paper, then trying to keep in your head. I found out that it just doesn't work that way!!

    I don't get on my scales at home, because I feel that it would be off by a few lbs. (gaining weight) and I would go ballistic. I know I should weigh at least once weekly, but I wait until the monthly visits to my Dietician to receive the news, be it a loss or gain. Also, I use the feel of my clothes in between to get an idea as to whether I am gaining or still losing.

    As for my daily exercise, I use the Leslie Sansone Walking DVDs at least four (4) times a week. I have lost 22 lbs. since November, and I don't get the calorie burn using those DVDs as opposed to going to the gym. Which I haven't frequented since mid-May. I have had bouts of chronic sinusitis, and have used that as an excuse to not go to the gym, as I was doing routinely 4-5 times weekly before then. So, bright and early on Monday morning, I will be @ the gym and getting "pumped" up as before. Today and Saturday I will use the walking DVDs. Sunday is a rest day for me.

    I don't know if this is the correct way of posting, but I wanted to share some of my trials and tribulations of my current weight loss/exercise.

    Remaining July Goals:
    Get in the daily ounces of water of half my body weight
    Stop drinking diet sodas and drink water instead
    Go to gym 4-5 times weekly
    Stay active throughout the day
    Eating fruit, yogurt, and drinking skim milk at least 4 hours before bedtime
    Increase my daily Fitbit statistics as to what they were before mid-May

    @Jmkmomm Cheri, I love your handiwork. I made a quilt for my oldest grand daughter's first big girl bed. I was so proud of it. Then I had enough scraps left over that I was able to make a doll sized one to match it. One of the toughest one I made was a king sized one for my youngest daughter's wedding. To bad the marriage didn't last. Now three dogs sleep and play on it. I hate to think the condition of that quilt I spent long hours on. I piece it by machine but all the quilting is by hand.

    Handmade quilts are such a wonderful gift of love to give. I piece by machine also and quilt by machine now. I love the piecing part but not so much the quilting part. As evidenced by the 3 tops I have awaiting quilting! I made each of my children t-shirt quilts from their childhood t-shirts. Such memories those quilts provoke!

    @Fanncy0626 Cheri- your DH's effort to give you love and affection sounded so cute I could picture him stopping and kissing you! DJ - no, I had to get the plants into the ground before they died. I dug up around 25 from my old house, hostas, and irises that needed to be thinned out about two weeks ago. And another 25 that I bought 4 weeks ago they were looking bad. The ones from my house actually were from plants from my old, old house, then they went to my daughters house, then she gave me pieces of them that I planted at the house I'm selling and now they are here at my new house. They have been traveling with me for 17 years now. I'm glad that you are feeling better.

    He is a cutey that is for sure Fanncy0626! Love the story about your plants. My husband and I always hate leaving our flower gardens behind when we move. We put such tender loving care into them that we wish we could pick them up and move them with us. How fortunate you are that your move was close enough to move your plants along with you. I have a house plant that was grown from a clipping in the preschool our children went to 20+ years ago.

    Thanks so much for the eye opener, or should I say slap up along side the head. I have been the "baker/crafter" in my family all of my adult life. Now I'm going to be the 'ACTIVE' one.     Thank you for this new perspective on who I am NOW. I've always identified as a crafter of all trades and feel bad about myself that I have left my so called passion behind. Perhaps there is a deeper meaning to that than just being lazy about my passion. Perhaps that is not my calling anymore. I will have to delve deeper into this. I was/am seriously considering purging so much of the "crafting supplies" I have accumulated over the years and carried with me every time we have relocated just to have the "burden" of being that old other person off my mind/shoulders. Perhaps I should seriously consider this. I've always insisted that each new house have a room for my stuff....hmmm....
    Chapel Hill is top on my list too. Bigger school for hubby and thusly larger salary. Also more opportunity for our daughter to relocate closer to us. She is ready to leave Chicago behind after 5 years and be closer to us. Fingers crossed.
    LOL I did not know what c2c was and googled it without the word crochet attached and all sorts of non-crochet stuff came up. Corner 2 corner crocheting! Never done it but will look it up and see if I can help you with the decrease.

    Yucky weather morning here. Hoping it will clear up for later. Need to get in a long walk today as yesterday was a washout. Down .4 pounds today after a 2 week stall. Figured out my weight loss over the past 125 days on MFP is falling into the just below 1 pound a week. I feel good about that. Slow and steady.

But now you have me curious: what kind of pan did you bake it in? OMG I love a cinnamon coffee cake. Why did you even make me think of that? LOL Talk about making someone drool! Just for the record, I don’t take the flavored vodka. Just regular vodka with diet tonic and a lime is good for me, although as someone mentioned, you can mix it with so many things. (Most of which are full of calories) Don’t ya love it when you order grilled veggies and they grill them on a flat top with a cup of grease? Ppffttt

    Chris, I can’t imagine that the exercise is hampering your sleep but ya never know. wow.gif GREAT JOB on your loss. I can’t imagine being that close to a goal. How exciting to get to a healthy weight range!!!! I’m still working to get out of obese. And a size 8!! You just go girl. Eating on a road trip is definitely easier if you plan ahead and have room for a cooler. You can even take snacks for SGD and won’t have to stop where food is sold.     It's been very hot here for the last couple of weeks. Yesterday it felt like 35C/ 95F. We need rain desperately, everyone's lawn is yellow and thin, the only thing growing seems to be thistles!

    I found a new drink that I really like called "Sparkling Ice". It comes in different flavours and is a carbonated water. It is so refreshing and has zero calories. I'm finding it a great substitute for the occasional Coke I crave in this hot weather. I have to go find a sentimental birthday card for Dad. He loves them and has saved every card I've given him.

    1. Do menu planning for July - Increasing protein to 130g per day. Do one week at a time so that can adjust as I go.

    2. Log all meals - try to pre-log to get a better handle on calories for the day

    3.Plan and Do - 2 fun things every week
    • W1: Family reunion - 3 days of fun and hard work
    • W2: Tai Chi with friend who will start beginners and needs some company. Hot Stone Massage
    • W3: Lunch with cousins, surprise Dad for his birthday
    4. Ride stationary bike 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes.

    Wow, took me a while to get through all those posts and now don't have much time to post since I'm supposed to be working. :)

    Have stuck to my goal to exercise at least five times a week even if it's just 20 minutes in the morning before work. Work, work, work today. Tomorrow I drive my daughters to their color run. No, I'm not running. It will be quite a while before I'm up to that since I hate running. Hubby is off to see his parents this weekend. They are both in a nursing home and we haven't seen them since April. Wish I could tag along but he is leaving at noon and I need to be at work. Plus I need to make sure I'm home to get daughter#2 off to camp after her color run.

    Miriam - Glad that my push got you up and moving! Keep it up.

    Sylvia - Same thing happened to us once with the dog. Key fob was laying on the front seat and dog must have stepped on it. :)

    Mia - Really enjoyed the underwear story. I laughed out loud at that one.

    Jane - Sorry you weren't able to donate blood. Wish they would have at least been nice about it.

    Lesley - Happy to hear the smoothie diet is working, but sorry that you are throwing up. That's just yucky.

    Carol - Hoping you continue to heal and the pain goes away soon.

    Eeep! Potluck lunch starts here at work in ½ hour. I brought a dish that I know I can eat without worry. I know my stomach is just the right size to not allow me to overeat if I pay attention to full and do not graze for the entire lunch hour. So my plan is to look everything over and take just a small bit of the healthiest dishes. Sit down and eat until I am comfortably full. Then STOP. The remainder of the lunch will be good conversation and getting to know my co-workers better. I’m putting it out here so that I will have to come back later and report on just how well I did on my follow through with my plan.

    I LOVE this drink! My current favorite is Coconut Pineapple. With a splash of wine...delish!
